View is one of the better of the area wineries. Sit on the patio if you love to snap out of relaxation from heavy iron chairs scraping concrete to the soundtrack of a Forever 21.

I really love this winery. My family and I came here for Fathers Day. The winery sits atop of a large hill and looks over the mountains. It’s such a pretty view. There is a lower level and upper level where you can taste 6 wines for $ 10. There was ample seating, especially outside. I loved that they had huge table umbrellas so that you could still sit outside but not be in direct sunlight. We bought a bottle of wine and brought a small picnic with us. There wines are so delicious. My favorites are the Rosé and the Viognier. We really had an amazing time here and will definitely be back.

I’ve stopped here twice now; once for the tasting and once for a glass with friends. 50 West is located right off Route 50 just outside the small town of Aldie. It is the sister winery of Sunset Hills. They serve some of their wines here as well as their 50 West label. They also serve a wine slushie which is typically not my first choice, but I have to reluctantly admit was not bad on a hot summer day. They have plenty of seating indoors and out, ample parking, food available for purchase and of course plenty of wines to try as well as a great view. Even though they are right off 50, I didn’t hear the road noise, but felt like I was enjoying a lovely country setting. Our tasting consisted of a variety of whites, reds and their rose. The wines were good, but nothing that really blew me away and made me want to take a bottle home. Of the wines I tasted, the rose was my favorite which is strange as I normally prefer the reds. I do appreciate the fact that the wines were not sweet. So many Virginia wineries seem to offer the sweeter wines and I just do not enjoy them at all. My experience here was a good one. The staff is friendly and helpful and the location is convenient and relaxing. I will stop in again.

50 West was definitely a pleasant surprise; I came here on my little wine excursion this past Friday after Cana and was very impressed! For a very young winery, they are doing well for themselves(they are the«sister» to Sunset Hills and it will be about 5 years before they are harvesting their own grapes off the property but they are upfront about that fact, which is very important). And similar to Sunset Hills, they have an awesome wine slushie!(Nothing says«summer is coming» like the arrival of wine slushies!) Technically speaking, this was my 2nd visit but on my first attempt to do a tasting here, they were having a members-only wine club event so my mother and I ended up leaving, though the management was very nice about it. NOTE: it really speaks volumes to both their staff’s training as well as customer service skills that we were able to be told there was a members-only event, leave a little disappointed but still vowing to return. I cannot even begin to describe how many times I have been literally driven away from a winery because of some event, in the rudest way possible(cough, cough, Casanel!) I started with the standard whites tasting, which I really enjoyed. None of the whites were overly sweet, which I was happy about(I have been on a dry wine kick lately), although I did of course«need» a taste of the wine slushie, which ended up in a glass in my hand on the back patio. Funny how these things happen. Also, in addition to liking the wines themselves, my wine educator was just the sweetest lady! Shout-out to Marcie for a wonderful experience and our awesome chats — and I look forward to seeing you on my next visit! There is nothing I would change about 50 West: there appears to be ample parking; the staff is friendly and down-to-earth; while the indoor seating is limited, there are plenty of spots outside; I liked the majority of the wines I tasted. Just be careful on the steep and narrow gravel driveway, especially coming down, and you’ll be golden! Also, I bet sunsets here are gorgeous. The view from the back of the tasting room is spectacular! I will definitely come here again«on my way» to Cana or Middleburg!

Great winery! Friendly welcoming staff. Beautiful location. We visited on a quiet Friday and had a wonderful visit. We were able to taste the not yet released Petit Verdot, which was wonderful. The price of the PV was a bit high at $ 40. That’s the only downside — price on food especially was a bit steep.

We are familiar with 50 West’s sister property, Sunset Hills. Sunset Hills has fantastic wine and we weren’t disappointed with 50 West. They offer SH wines as well as some of their own vintages. The winery is small and quaint. The tasting room was open and had a beautiful breeze. We took friends who had never had Sunset Hills wine and the gentleman, Mark, giving the tasting was beyond boring. He didn’t tell us anything about the wine. He just poured them and waited until we were ready for the next wine. Luckily, we know the manager on duty and he made up for it by letting us try a wine that was just bottled and not yet released. One of our favorite things about a winery is learning about how the wines are made and the fun facts about it We normally go to Sunset for Mother’s Day, but we think we’ll be back to 50 West. It was smaller, quieter and overall just a more comfortable feel. Very inviting and welcoming. P. S. Thanks James for being so awesome!

My group had a very bad experience with 50 West. I hired a party bus to do a wine tour of northern VA wineries for my wife’s birthday. 50 West was the last of three wineries we were to visit, but when we showed up we received a less than hospitable reception. The tasting manager stopped the bus immediately and asked if we had a reservation. We did not, so he said he would see what he could do and returned inside. Several minutes went by and he did not return, so I went inside to talk to him. He was not making any effort to accommodate us and stated that we were not allowed inside because they did not allow groups without a reservation. I informed him that nowhere on their website does it say anything about this. I told him it was my wife’s birthday and we came all the way out from DC, could he please make an exception? Still the answer was no. I told him we didn’t need a group tasting and that we would be happy to split up into smaller groups. There were only 11 people in our group, so it wasn’t like there was 30 of us about to take over the winery. Also, the winery wasn’t even crowded at the time. More rudely this time I was told we were not allowed inside. He said they were going to announce last call soon even though their advertised closing time was 6:30PM. It was 5:40PM. I again pleaded with him but he said it was their policy. I reminded him that this policy was not made available to the public. He informed me that my bus tour company should have known and told us. I told him they did not. Realizing I was not making any progress I asked to speak to his manager. He said he was the manager and said I needed to leave. I returned to the bus and we retuned to DC having only seen two wineries thanks to 50 West. I highly discourage anyone from visiting this winery. Their hospitality and customer service is severely lacking.

The guy that was serving us for our wine tasting had a great sense of humor. He was educational and cracked jokes which made the experience better. I stopped by here after the Middleburg Christmas parade so I had my dog with me and they were very friendly. We sat outside while enjoying our wine. The view was great, especially at sunset. The staff was super friendly and of course they all had to come out to say hello to my corgi pup. I really liked their port wine and their cider. The cider was house made and warm which made it even better to sip on in the cold. I’d recommend this place!

Excellent Dawn and Dusk are my favorite wines Newest winery so they don’t have everything yet like a sit down tasting which Greenhill has but they did accommodate us Everything is priced well and fair… less expensive than Greenhill for example They don’t yet have a tour available on site of where the wine is made as they are a spin off from their neighbor Sunset Hill

Nice views from this hilltop winery! We enjoyed the tasting, the wines were nice and the pours were heavy on our visit! The wines they offer are mostly all from Sunset Hills, at least until they have had a chance to make their own. This used to be a different winery, but was recently bought/taken over by Sunset Hills. The tasting room is really pretty and quaint. They have pretty patio space. The walk from the parking lot is really nasty when the weather is wet though, as they really need a walk way, walking through the muddy grass isn’t very fun. Overall, this is one worth keeping an eye on and visiting again!

The hospitality is top notch. They give pretty generous pouring and I had to even ask for less. These are some of the friendliest staff at a winery. The place is gorgeous and quaint. The wine is pretty good too especially their mulled cider. Great place! Would definitely cove back again.

We visited 50 West this past weekend. Ample easy parking, fantastic view and great entertainment. The artist played nonstop! Very knowledgeable staff pouring for the tastings. Both the views and wines clearly made this worth the trip! Loved the friendly atmosphere.

I visited this winery over this past weekend with a group of girlfriends for a tasting. The tasting room is very pretty, there is a good view and our pourer was very friendly, but I wasn’t a fan of the wines that are offered. They all taste young and not memorable at all. Their website offers absolutely no information about the wines, which probably is a sign that they’re banking on visitors coming for the tasting room, not yet the wines. I probably will not go back for several years, but I think this would probably be a good place for those with a different palate, especially those looking for sweeter or lighter wines.

We came here back when this place was Leaves of Grass because of the casual atmosphere and beautiful views. I am pleased this has not changed. You can bring dogs/kids/outside food to the property(not the tasting room), and inside they have food and chocolate for sale as well as wine. The vineyard is now owned by Sunset Hills, but this place has a very different feel from it’s Purcellville location. I liked it. And I liked the wines quite a bit. We’ll definitely be coming back.

Sunset Hill’s newest venture. The location is beautiful, and I love the tasting room. It’s a great breezy open barn. Currently, the atmosphere is a little more relaxed because it isn’t quite as busy as Sunset has gotten(which I expect to change as more people find out its here). There is a ton of outdoor seating. The wines are great. They are still currently pouring Sunset wines, but you can get some different offerings out there. My favorite was the Walsh Sauv Blanc and the Cabernet Franc rose. It was definitely a great experience, and we enjoyed sitting with glasses and our cheese and meat snack.
