This is one of the best wineries in the area for visitors, because they have good wines, a nice ambiance and an extensive food menu. The staff is friendly, and on the day we were there they had live entertainment. One of the reasons their wines are good is because they are making their dry wines from California grapes, not local ones(which are better suited to making sweet wines). Everything we sampled was well made. Note that there is a fee($ 5) for five samples.

Went to this place on a bit of a whim. Had a cousin come in from Atlanta and knew she was a wine drinker. Wanted to show her a good time for the weekend. Started looking online for places close by and stumbled upon this winery. Since it was my first time going to one, I didn’t know why to expect. I gathered a few of our other cousins and heading out to this place based on the high rating alone. Figured it couldn’t be that great. I was wrong. From the moment we were greeted when walked through the entrance, it felt like we were invited friends over to a party. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The wines were tasty. The atmosphere was really cozy and welcoming. My only regret was that we only had a short time to spend there. I will definitely recommend Shady Creek Winery to anyone looking something other than the typical«bar scene». And I will be back there for another round very soon. I recommend BEACHGLASS and the PETITESYRAH.

Unfortunately, despite the positive reviews, our experience was negative. The servers were condescending and the pours were extremely weak. The type of service and pours you’d expect from a free tasting, not $ 5. We maybe got a half a glass of mediocre wine.

a great winery right here in Michigan City. We had our company’s Christmas party there last night and it was a night of great tasting wine and excellent food. It has Wi-Fi, an outside smoking area, a wine club, great food and great wine with tastes that tie to the region.

I really liked this winery. It was a perfect stop on the way back to Chicago from Ohio. As soon as we walked in we were hit with the smell of woodsmoke from the fireplace in the tasting room. I loved it! That particular smell on a cold day gets me every time. We were immediately greeted by the staff who explained the wine tastings. 5 tastes for $ 5 and they were decent pours. All the grapes are either from Michigan or California(no Indiana grapes) and they make all the wines on site. Wines were good. Good enough that we decided to buy a glass and sit and listen to the live music. Heard some good alt-rock 90s tunes, sipped some Zinfandel, and enjoyed the smell of the wood burning fireplace. It was a great way to spend an afternoon.

After a day of apple picking we decided to stop in and try some wine. I really liked the $ 5 for 5 wine tastings. They had a large variety of wine to choose from. We planned on eating here which made me a little apprehensive because prices were not listed on the website. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that most of the menu was under $ 10. The food was excellent and the portions were great. I really liked that they had a wine that had money go to rescue dogs. Two of my favorite things! I wanted to buy a bottle but I figured I had already spent enough money at the apple orchard. Guess I’ll have to go back!

Having read a lot about this winery as one of the best, we drove down to this place to taste it out. They have a nice $ 5 for 5 wine tasting option, which is great for beginners and wine lovers too. It was crowded as we entered at around 5:00PM and they were managing it with ease and smile. Jenny described the wines and helped us in choosing through them. We tasted Chardonel, Red Horizon, Traminette, Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Moonlight Radiance. We opted for a glass of Rip Tide and R.D.R(Rescued Dog Red) with assorted cheese platter. I would recommend Moonlight Radiance, Traminette and Rip Tide as they are unique in flavour. Sue was great, informative and friendly. This place is a must for all wine lovers. Nice location, good wine and great service, I would give it 5+ stars if I could.

I found this place on Unilocal and was excited to visit and try their 5 wines for $ 5 deal. We had time between a wedding ceremony and reception and it was the perfect place. They have little options for munching while you’re tasting, the bottles are affordable, many different options, and a beautiful tasting area. On a Saturday afternoon, this was a popular spot! The customer service exceeded expectations — they were so sweet and eager to know where we were all from, how the wedding was, etc. They were patient when we picked wines and explained everything and made suggestions. They also used our first names after learning them. Clearly a family-owned place in the best way. If anywhere near Michigan City again, I would go out of my way to visit them. We were just in the tasting area(which was beautiful inside) but I’d be happy to try what other events they do like live music, etc. GOHERE. P. S. We tried and loved the«Rescue Dog Red» — bought two bottles, one for the bride and groom and one to take home. The story is that the three brothers all have rescue dogs. Such a goodtime after blueberry picking on a hot day. My friend and I did the $ 5 wine tasting, although I was disappointed at the taste portions my friend was quick to remind me that its $ 5 tasting. We walked out with couple bottles each. Sue was our hostess, chatty and friendly.

Fantastic winery. We came in for a few samples and ended up enjoying lunch and a glass of wine while live music played. Great atmosphere and very knowledgeable staff. Tim was very helpful and did a nice job making sure our glasses were filled and offered interesting insight about each wine we sampled.

Very excellent for a winery! Not a big wine person but thier sweet/dry white wines are really good. A high recommendation of the Sandy Feet, White Caps, and Moonlight Radiance! Staff is very friendly and informative. My sister recommends the reds, and highly recommends Moonlight Radiance.

Loved it and will definitely return, place was a bit crowded but for a good reason, the workers were exceptional and extremely courteous, the hummus with pita chips was the best I ever had and the indoor patio had the perfect relaxing view of the woods that added a cozy touch to a day of wine tasting with the girls. we bought several bottles and need to go back soon for more

We stopped in on the Sunday before Labor Day and they were quite busy, but the flow at the Wine Bar moves quickly. Upon entering we weren’t really greeted until a few minutes into awkwardly standing there. We started with tasting 4 different types of wine of our choice from a given menu. I’m thinking wine? There’s gotta be cheese so I ordered an international cheese platter, which really wasn’t international: provolone, cheddar with bacon, and a pork type cheese with crackers and a small bowl of grapes( ), nice touch on the grapes fitted well with the cheese, crackers, and wine. Can’t remember all 4 of the wine I tried, but both of us enjoyed the crisp flavor of Beach Glass and the fruitiness of Red Horizon( ). I opted for a glass of Beach Glass while the bf went with the Red Horizon we lounge at the bar area and took in the surroundings while being entertained by a live singer. There’s a nice loft( ) you can relax in or a private room with paintings. We ended up with a bottle of Red Horizon and 2 wine glass holders that look like sandals! A very enjoyable experience, wish we got more background history of the wines, but we didn’t ask either so can’t fault anyone. Definitely check it out if you’re in the area!

Our stop at Shady Creek Winery was very enjoyable. We tried coming once before but were too early. This time we arrived at exactly 11am on a Friday and were greeted by one of the employees. The building itself is huge and their tasting area is spacious. They have a large bar and a small gallery on the main floor. There is a big, open loft on the second floor which overlooks the main room. We browsed their selection of wine souvenirs and gifts, but nothing particularly stood out. The wine items are somewhat bland things that you could get at any place that sells wine accessories and wine-referencing clothing. The artwork and custom jewelry is where it’s at. They are pricey, but they are one of a kind and quality. I have my eye on the silver chain with smoothed glass. Shady Creek Winery serves sandwiches and cheese, but we decided to just stay for the wine. My BF and I decided to try the most wines by each ordering our own complimentary 4 – 5 choice tasting. We had Beach Glass(light, semi-dry, citrus), Riesling(semi-sweet, citrus), Rescued Dog Red 2008(Cab Franc-Syrah-Merlot blend, comparable to Bulgarian Bears Blood, medium sweet/dry with strong oak smell and flavor), Cab Sav 2006(very dry), Sandy Feet(sweet, fruity, citrus), Riesling(sweet, fruity, citrus), Red Horizon(semi-sweet/dry), Natural Cherry Fruit Wine(cinnamon bear smell with slight natural cinnamon and strong cherry flavor that comes from fermented sour cherries) and Passion Ice Wine(incredibly sweet, smooth and fruity flavor). I was pretty set on purchasing a bottle of the Rescued Dog Red, which gives 3% of the price back to the local Humane Society, but the woman serving up our tastings offered us an additional small sample of the Pink Sky, which is a combination of the Sandy Beach and Riesling with a splash of R.D.R. We had a new favorite and quickly decided this was our wine. I also had my heart set on the Ice Wine, but it was more than I really wanted to spend at the time. They won’t be making it again in the foreseeable future and currently have 2 cases left. Get it while you can! The tastings aren’t incredibly insightful. They don’t go into great detail about the wine making process or the history of the winery. I’m sure you could probably schedule a more in-depth tour if you called ahead, but I felt the woman working there was friendly, helpful and told us all we really needed to know about each bottle. I would recommend this winery as good stop for a local winery tour or even just as a quick respite on your way through Michigan.
