I just love this place. Surprisingly great food, great atmosphere, and the staff make me so happy– so sweet and always with the biggest smiles. I was expecting sushi that was decent for the region, but it rivals the sushi I’ve had all over the country. So happy to have them.

I have tried sushi before and did not like it. Daughter wanted to go here for her birthday I was scared that I would be sitting there not eating while she enjoyed her meal. To my surprise the food was amazing. We shared calamari and crab Rangoon and I had butterfly roll and she had Godzilla roll. Both where so good can’t wait to go back and try new things.

I love the Kiss of Fire roll and the Hokkaido roll in particular, the service has been good every time I have went there and the staff is always welcoming even when I showed up just before closing time.

I was visiting the area and searched for a sushi restaurant near the outlets. Hokkaido was the closest, and based on the rating, I felt confident in the choice. The sushi is beyond amazing. I had the Godzilla Roll and the Tara Roll. They were both absolutely delicious, and the seared steak on be Tara Roll was an awesome new flavor to my sushi palate. My only regret is that I did not photograph what I ate. The restaurant is two hours from where I live, but I may find myself taking a road trip just for the sushi.

So happy that a decent sushi restaurant finally made it to MC! My husband could live off of nothing but sushi — I even started making it at home to satisfy his cravings. Is this the best sushi ever? No, but it is pretty good and convenient for take-out. Portions are a bit small compared to some places, but this isn’t a deal breaker. If you decide to eat in, you may want to go during non-peak hours or expect a wait.

Food is very nicely made. I had the unagi don. The staff are very hospitable and he place is clean. It’s a welcome addition to Michigan City so check it out. The only thing I would change is that the portions are slightly small.

Since the restaurant has opened, I have become a regular. I keep trying new rolls and dishes. I absolutely love their edamame and would probably say it is the best I’ve ever had. I continue to order the volcano roll each visit and on this last visit enjoyed the tuna lover sushi plate. The slices of tuna on the nigiri almost melted in my mouth and the chefs understood then importance of a little swipe of wasabi between the fish and rice.

I went because the restaurant was recommended by friends. Another factor was it is a short distance from home, and they offer carry-out. The restaurant was clean and quiet. A major plus for me. The front end of the house and the chef were knowledgeable and friendly. There English IS better than my Japanese. Sometimes I did need to rephrase my questions. However we did work it out. I got a tour of their sushi bar and learned about any catch of the day specials. Unfortunately, there are none at this time. special fish such as fatty tuna were not on the menu. I ordered the Tuna Lover Special. This consists of 6 pieces of Tuna Nigirizushi, and 6 pieces of Tuna Hosomaki. The presentation was lovely, and the miso soup was good. It was not the best or most generous portions I have eaten, but being 2.5 blocks from home, I plan on becoming a regular patron.

So happy to see such a great sushi restaurant in Michigan city. We really needed it. Great authentic sushi and perfect miso soup that’s not too salty or too weak. Great service. Great sushi chefs. Great ambiance. Have eaten here more than 3 times and each time I walk away satisfied and looking forward to returning.

I moved to Michigan City — La Porte area 12 years ago. Typically I eat sushi at least once a week and when traveling sometimes 5 times a week. I can’t believe that Hokkaido opened in Michigan City… not only opened… It is totally GREAT. Finally a dynamite sushi place in Michigan City. Sushi is great. People are great. Check it out!

Japanese food in Michigan City. That is already great but this place is good too! They serve an astounding array of rolls as well as grill and tempura offerings. Located on the newly renovated Franklin Street they were the perfect place to savor great food after viewing art galleries, antique stores and boutiques. Snack or full meal, you will not go wrong with this restaurant.

First this place is small. I think 8 tables and 4 booths. While waiting in line, the people leaving said«it’s worth the wait». I agree. We ordered 5 rolls, the soup, salad, and the fried rice. All 5 rolls were great. Staff was really nice and knowledgeable. They don’t take American Express.

I’ll start by saying the food was awesome! The rolls were pretty great, the chicken fried rice was so flavorful and delicious. However I will order take out from now on! When I got to the restaurant on a Saturday night I had to wait about 10 minutes before my party was greeted. We were told it would be an hour wait. The server offered to take a phone number and would call a when table became available. We returned after an hour to find there were 4 open tables but we didn’t receive a call. The same server came up and asked«how many» are you serious?! We ordered right away. Waited quite some time for cold miso soup and salad. Then after another 35+ minutes we finally got sushi… keeping in mind we all asked for separate tickets, our sushi was on 2 plates. We were reaching over each others food to eat! Boo! And to make it worse 1 of the girls is allergic to mayonnaise… so some of her rolls were touching our sauces and she couldn’t eat all of her order. So keeping in mind that it’s new and the serving staff needs some work, order take out! Food is good! I highly recommend the blackjack roll :)

Just had sushi and bbq pork here. The sushi was fresh and there was a large variety to choose from. The bbq was flavorful and cooked well. The server was attentive and very friendly. The décor is modern and cool! It’s so nice to have a great sushi place so close!
