The Comfort Inn in Michigan City is practically the definition of a «good» hotel. It was comfortable, well equipped, nicely yet simply decorated, and had all the usual creature comforts that separate it from the more economy class motels. Was it the best place I’ve ever been? Nope, but it was comfortable and restful and nicely wheelchair accessible. The Comfort Inn is nicely situated near Indiana Dunes, Blue Chip Casino, and Indiana’s only lighthouse. With most rates in the $ 70 – 80 range, you’re getting a comfortable and safe place for only slightly more than you’ll pay for most economy motels. They offer free WiFi/Hi-Speed Internet, a free newspaper on M-F, guest laundry, pay-per-view, and a host of other comforts. It should be noted that they do not allow pets. The Comfort Inn served up the basics well. The room was clean and in good repair. The requested accessibility was provided. The check-in and check-out processes were quick and efficient and the staff was friendly and accommodating. The Comfort Inn in Michigan City felt like an older establishment, but this doesn’t have to be a bad thing and in this case it wasn’t. I’ve never had a lot of experience with Comfort Inn, but this made me interested in exploring the chain even further. While not what I would call a stellar hotel, The Comfort Inn lived up to its name and provided a warm and comfortable experience. I would certainly use it on a return visit.

This was our hotel of choice for the road trip we went on last weekend. It was very easy to find, perfectly adequate for spending the night in town after hitting the Indiana Dunes earlier that day. It’s a quick drive down to the water to see the old lighthouse and get some drinks at Matey’s nearby. Plenty of restaurants to check out in the area as well. The staff was friendly, the room was clean. What more can you ask for?

Dark, dirty, dingy and smells bad. Would give negative stars if I could. We checked in, took one look at our rooms and checked out. Went across the street and checked into Country Inn and Suites, which is excellent. Parking lot was dark and everything in this place was dingy. I can’t imagine eating breakfast here. Didn’t even want to touch anything in this place. Wouldn’t have stayed here on a bet. We got our money refunded for the four rooms we had reserved and went across the street to the beautiful Country Inn, where we stayed for a week.

I read a lot of crappy reviews of a lot of crappy motels in the area before settling on this one… it was the best of the lot and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t crappy at all. This hotel was newly renovated so everything was nice and fresh, new carpeting, wallpaper, granite sinks and backsplash. The room was spotless and it really WAS non-smoking! And the air conditioning was already on and cranked to a frosty 65 degrees, just the way I like it! We weren’t able to get a double because we booked so late, so we settled for a non smoking king w/a rollaway, which we weren’t able to get because once again, we booked too late. But we brought along the aerobed for our daughter and it worked just fine. Use the AAA discount to get a good rate(what? you don’t have a membership? Get one! Well worth it for the towing alone, and hotel discounts are icing on the cake) Breakfast is served from 6 – 10. The usual assortment of muffins, fresh fruit, bagels, english muffins, breads & spreads to go on them. The make-your-own waffles were nice. For protein, there was nasty smucker’s peanut butter and hard boiled eggs… mmmmmm, rubbery whites! Weak coffee, assorted cereals, blahblahblah. We’ll have to go elsewhere for coffee. Teeny indoor pool, but since it will have to do since we won’t be going to the beach or swimming when we go to our friends’ summer home later today. Such a nice 4th of July… We will definitely stay here again when we pass through.
