Waves: A Healing Spa

I’ve been here several times for both massage and facial, i totally recommend this spa. I like how they enforce the no cell phone usage policy to maintain the place quiet. Mariana did my most recent facial and I can’t emphasis how great she was. This spa remains a top favorite!

I was unsure exactly what I’d signed myself up for when I arrived and realized the Rolf Method does not require the removal of clothing. I mean, not that I *like* stripping down and getting naked for a total stranger. It’s moreso that I wondered how effective a massage could be if the masseuse wasn’t actually touching my skin. I thought, «Oh gosh, I must be in for another one of those chair massages they hand out at the mall.» I couldn’t have been more wrong.
I have never experienced anything like the Rolf Method. I had been suffering from upper back issues for at least 6 months that made even sitting up at my work desk cause a great deal of pain in both my upper and lower back. I couldn’t ever get comfortable and sleeping was a chore because of the pain. All of this was improved after just one Rolf treatment at Waves Spa. It is more than a month since my session and I am still feeling the positive effects of my massage. Now I can sit at my work desk and focus on my work, rather than the pain I had before. I’ve since flown on a plane and had to sit through a 14-​hour round-​trip drive, both of which were previously hellish endeavors. Since having the massage, I’ve MARVELED at how my back feels after traveling. Those previous aches don’t make themselves known to me anymore.
I can’t lie: the massage HURT. I have a high tolerance for pain and there were moments that almost brought tears to my eyes. But I knew the condition my body was in so I committed to getting through the session for the the relief I had come to expect.
Through it all, the masseuse was very professional. It was important to him that we sit for a few minutes and discuss what some of my issues with my body were. During the session, he «listened» to my body and adjusted his technique accordingly. Also, what I liked about him is that he had me stand up to see the difference in the way my body felt and behaved halfway through the Rolf session. He passed on a great deal of knowledge bout body mechanics and what the Rolf method is all about. I never once felt uncomfortable, even when the session switched to a normal massage with associated nakedness.
From what I was told, Waves Spa hosts the only Certified Rolf Method technician in South Florida. Although it’s not the cheapest massage around, for me it is absolutely worth the money spent. I can’t wait to revisit Waves Spa for my next session!!! I HIGHLY recommend making the investment to get a Rolf Method massage if you’re in physical pain that such treatment could relieve.

I must admit that I’m a Waves junkie. This place has it all. With their fairly regular specials, it’s possible to have an in room massage for 60 or 90 minutes at no more than $ 1/​minute. Even though I’m only on the FIU campus on a part time basis, I make the trip from downtown because there is no spa in South Florida with therapist as skilled, professional, and affordable as Waves. When I’m too rushed or my budget is tight, I get a chair massage. 10 or 15 minutes and I’m back to new! As far as hatred for cancer victims, I just don’t see it. My dad and couple of very close friends died of cancer and I’ve never felt any kind of negativity from the staff at Waves. Far from it. This is my oasis from the hectic, brutal daily grind that is Miami.
