Hobbies exist because populations support them and one that’s gaining exponential traction revolves around trading the most approachable of inebriants — BEER! Bottle Sharing has an intoxicating appeal. Novices and vintage veterans alike pop tops in hopes of trying each other’s typical and atypical beers in a laidback potluck setting. Sud Swap is such an event held once a month at Gramps Bar in the Greenpoint-esque Wynwood Arts District. The outdoor affair is hosted by a tight-knit group of collectors that started Miami Beer Tours, attended by enthusiasts and sponsored by the best of the Sunshine State’s breweries. 2 Live Brews, 3 Sons, Cigar City, Daddy Brews, J. Wakefield and Wynwood Brewing Company donate keg after beautiful keg to every official and unofficial member of the National Alliance against Sobriety in attendance. The brewmasters win by getting feedback for test batches and attendees win by sampling their experiments before anyone else has even heard of them. DJs keep the energy at an all-time high, tailgating tents offer protection from the elements and after a meager $ 5 cover… your cash is only good for gourmet grilled cheeses and boozy baubles.

Have been coming the this monthly gathering for a few months by now, it’s my favorite beer event. I just hope it doesn’t get too big and crowded for selfish reasons! Why I love it: 1. It’s small, with a friendly intimate feel. 2. It features many home brews or rare beers that I don’t normally get to taste. 3. Instead of coming in to get drunk, the attendees are more beer connoisseurs who know the different types of people and can talk intelligently(before they get too many drinks in…) about beer. 4. I can find someone to share all the big bottles I got… 5. I use Untappd and it’s a great way to increase my number of check ins.
