An interesting little park at the entrance to the Seybold Canal along the Miami River. Native trees, palms, and a great view of ships being tugged along the Miami River. You can also walk your dogs there, and it’s not a bad place for a picnic… There are a few intact tables, and some nice newer metal park benches along the River. Limited parking. Just up the street you can see one of the oldest bridges in Miami, the so-called«Humpback» bridge over the Seybold, built in the 1920’s.

I was riding bike around town this past weekend when I decided to explore one of my favorite neighborhoods, Spring Garden If given the choice of anywhere to live in Miami, Spring Garden would be it, that’s how much I like the ‘hood I come by here every so often but this time I was able to take my time and was able to find this park It is easily missed since the entrance and gate are very unassuming Once inside, it opens up and reveals amazing views of Downtown and the Miami River that I never knew existed A bunch of benches and tables make it an Ideal spot for a picnic where your only going to be seen by passing motorboats and manatees The location of this park might have been Miami’s first amusement park A man by the name of Warren Frazier aka«Alligator Joe» used to subdue gators here by wrestling them and flipping them on their back for a mere 50 cents He also sold gator and turtle meat, skins, shells, teeth and other memorabilia for Northeners coming down during winter in the early 1900’s
