Dr. Li was recommended to me by a friend, who attended the Acupuncture College & Massage School in Kendall. Dr. Li is a teacher there and she herself graduated from the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, with over 20 years in practice. After a very lengthy intake form that examines my lifestyle, the doctor took my pulse, and looked at my tongue. As I have some pain in my elbow, she asked me to move my arm around and press down on where it hurts. Then she stuck a needle on my leg, more or less corresponding to the spot. If it’s a spot below my elbow she stuck the needle below my knee. While I am no stranger to TCM it was fascinating how my right knee becomes a voodoo doll for my left elbow. After a few rounds she asked me where it still hurts and I found to my amazement that the points that were bothersome a few minutes ago were totally fine by then, no matter how hard I try to twist or press my elbow. Wow. I felt like telling her she could pull all the needles I am hopping off the bed to go home. She did tell me though, that afterwards the pain may return, but lighter, and in a few treatments should be all gone. She prescribed some Chinese herbs for my other ailments, which comes in a small bottle. It’s some coarsely ground powder to be mixed with water. It’s typical Chinese medicine flavor, bitter, strong-smelling, and earthy. Will be back to see her again and see how it goes. But so far I feel pretty comfortable with her and confident in her treatment.
