We flew into Miami and needed a place to crash in the middle of the day for 3 hours. We remembered driving up and down Biscayne and seeing many small hotels when we lived here, so we decided to check out a few and see if any offered hourly rates. We pulled up to Saturn Motel and checked in with the front desk via a glass(possibly bullet-proof?) window. Yes, they offer hourly — $ 45 for two hours or $ 55 for three. Not the best pricing, but not the worst either. There was a strong smell of pot drifting around. Not sure if it was from the guy inside the window or the guy hanging out on the corner right outside said window. Anyway, we took the deal, and proceeded to sleep in the most uncomfortable room I’ve slept in for my entire life. Honestly, I’ve slept in $ 10/night motels in third world countries and $ 60/night places in the Keys with a better set-up. The mattress was uncomfortably hard, and the sheets were greasy-feeling and smelled strongly like lysol, which was actually a pleasant surprise as the rest of the room smelled like smoke. We certainly didn’t request a smoking room, so maybe there’s not a differentiation. If you need an hourly motel, don’t go here. Go crash on a park bench somewhere, or better yet, spend the extra $ 30 for a full night and sleep somewhere decent.
