Coming to this place is the worst mistake I could’ve ever made. Please people listen to me. I am literally depressed and have cancelled out on my friend’s engagement party because of this place. Jazmine cut my hair and according to her only cut 2 inches off. It’s obvious she didn’t learn measurements in school! My hair was passed my bra strap and now barely reaches passed my shoulders. She took 5 – 6 hours on my hair to leave it a complete mess. The supervisor came (at the end), checked her work and said «perfect» PFFT… Perfect? WHERE??? She also kept asking if I was mad and kept saying, I only cut two inches, I only cut two inches! Omg every time I think about this place, all types of thoughts come to mind that I can’t express on here! I’m a 1^st time user of Unilocal and don’t know if I can post a before/​after pic but I will attempt to. Take it form me guys, stick to the professionals. It’s worth the extra dollars.

You never know what kind of company you are dealing with until you see how they handle a bad situation. I have to say that I am beyond shocked and disappointed in how the Paul Mitchell school salon handled the situation after one of their students fried my hair. Let me begin by saying that I had been going to the salon for about a year and a half. I naturally have dark wavy hair and had them always do a simple cut and color (black). The job was always done to my satisfaction. But, about 2 ½ months ago I decided to take my hair a few shades lighter (cinnamon brown). I initially went in for a strand test since I was scared to lighten my hair. My hair was long and very healthy. I made clear that I wanted to preserve the Length and integrity. They convinced me to just do the hair, it would take the same time as a strand test, they assured me my hair would come out how I wanted it. Long story short after spending over $ 200 the student damaged my hair beyond repair, ended up with orange and blonde hair (damage and colors were not obvious until I got home and washed it) So I returned to the school to show them the damage, I told them that I wanted them to fix it and just take me back to my original dark color. When a salon makes a mistake they fix it at no cost. They said they were NOT a salon and that they had to charge me. I asked to speak to upper management, they said that they would say they same thing and that they don’t care what I have to say, that the decision would be the same. They wouldn’t even give me the directors info. So that I could contact him. So, at the end I spent so much money to end up with dark short hair!!! I’m so upset!!! I had to cut 10 inches off of my hair and dye it back to my original color to hide the damage. ONLY go to this place for basic things like coloring to your natural color or simple cuts. DO NOT trust them for anything dramatic. Go to a professional salon! Like they told me «they are a school, not professionals» and for the record not once did they even apologize for this huge mistake. I never even asked for a refund, all I expected was not to be charged for my hair to be fixed. The one star was for the the past experience when they did basic simple jobs.

Love the products and students. Prices are fantastic. I schedule mainly blow outs ($ 12) hair treatments (starting at $ 11), and iron work ($ 9). Haircuts are $ 16 and color starts around $ 30. Can’t beat those prices, especially with the attention & care the students use. Everyone is interested in learning and passionate about what they do.
That being said, prices are so low because the are a SCHOOL. Remember these are STUDENTS so if you are very picky with your hair then don’t do anything drastic your first time there. They are still learning and can make mistakes, just be vocal and detailed about what you want and voice any concerns. The products they use are great and you get a free scalp massage (try the tee tree tingle shampoo and your scalp will sing).
Also, come with extra time because it usually takes 15 – 20 mins to see a stylist, no matter the appointment time or schedule.

The cuts are typically quite good. Problem is that it takes 3 hours just for a simple men’s haircut. Every time I have made an appointment, they have not gotten started until 45 – 60 minutes later. THEN, it takes another two hours! Unfortunately, this has been my experience at least 10 times in a row. Finally walked out after 45 minutes of waiting for the student to show up. Definitely now worth the wasted time.

Im a student and a fan. The school gives students the opportunity to preform services on guest and provide an amazing experience. Its a win win situation. Students get the experience and guest are provided with salon quality work at a discounted price.

Avoid *this* PM school at all costs. Unless time and quality are not a priority to you. Here is why:
For over a year I received partial foil highlights from students at the PM school in Charleston, SC, and never once had a bad experience. In fact, they were some of the best highlighting experiences I have had to date (even compared to those I received at high end salons in Manhattan). I also appreciate both the affordability and opportunity to give student a learning experience as they train to become professionals in their field.
However, my first experience at the PM school salon in Miami was HORRIFIC. Despite being «afforded» TWO application (PARTIAL foil highlights) stylist students and the fact that my hair is medium length and very thin, I was at the salon for over 6 hours (!). The first application, which took about 3+ hours just to foil, was seriously flawed as well! The highlights were asymmetrical because two different people were working the foils (duh!) and despite my insistence that I wanted an ashy look, my hair was a resultant brassy-​orange. Of course, I freaked, having waited this long for something so *wrong,* so they went ahead and spent another 2 hours re-​foiling, washing, and styling. The result was acceptable but there was no reversing the asymmetry.
I SHOULD HAVE LEARNED MY LESSON, but after a few months, decided to give it another go. Perhaps I would be placed with a more advanced student or there would be more responsible supervisors on the floor, who knows? BIG MISTAKE. Again, my hair is SUPER THIN, and PARTIAL highlights only include the top quadrant of your hair, and yet, after 3 and ½ hours, I had only reached the rinsing stage! I ended up LEAVING without having my hair blown out because I had already missed two meetings I had scheduled for the day. IMO, under no circumstances, should a partial foil exceed 2 hours. Even if the person is in training — they should not be allowed on the floor until they have accomplished an adequate processing speed. OR, if it is going to take all day, there should be a DISCLAIMER on the ads. I ended up leaving disappointed, again. And when I got home to blow dry my hair, it didn’t even appear that I had gotten a retouch. There was almost an inch of my natural color growth from the highlight application point and it looked dreadful when I pulled it up! :(
I would strongly recommend that you do NOT go here for highlighting.**
**I chose not to name the student (s) in this post because I do not believe it is their fault in any way. The supervisors and instructors should be more actively involved in the training and monitoring of client treatment. The whole time I was getting my hair done, the student (s) spoke of their lack of understanding certain techniques, to the degree that even I knew more about the process of highlighting than they did. I actually feel for the students at this school…
