I love oxtail and this place sure has some good Jamaican food. The reason I only gave it 3 is because the selection here is very small and it’s about the only thing I eat here.

My favorite is now the oxtail. I prefer Jamican style oxtail over Cuban or «soul food» oxtail.(And if you don’t have a preference, educate yourself.) The food really is great. But the service remains slow and they don’t seem to give a rat’s ass about it.

Maybe because Im island I’m hard on this place, I heard the lady passed it obvious something had to have changed this place. It smelt like a bathroom the closer to the restroom u sat and they had a fan on blowing the air from that direction. The food I wouldn’t say it was overrated I was average. All that withstanding it’s the service that’s the real nail in the coffin, bad service with sub par food is a awful combination

Everytime I’m in South Florida, i eat at Junies and the food has always been amazing, although the service has always been slow. I came down this time with my family so naturally we’re going here because I’ve been raving about how good the food is here. We took the long drive in traffic from south beach to Junies only to be highly disappointed. The food was nothing like what I remembered, it is now sub-par at best, the oxtails were nothing special, didn’t even taste as good as my mom’s oxtail, the flavor was lacking, all the pieces I received was fatty, and the portion was too small for the price. The rice grains were not long grain and shelly but mashed up and just not tasty and they charge around $ 15 for this mess!!! The jerk chicken was worse, it had an odd taste to it, we didn’t eat the jerk chicken, I didn’t want to insult my taste buds and it was just not worth the space in my tummy so we tossed it out the first chance we got. Service was non existence, they really needed more staff. One girl taking phone orders and also doing the orders of the people walking in, after all 4 of us placed our order & waited 15 – 20 minute for the food, they told us they don’t have any more jerk chicken to fill one of the orders, didn’t they know this b4 the food came up? We had to ask 4 times for someone to wipe off the table, she couldn’t give me a receipt because«the machine not working» REALLY!!! I can’t even get a receipt??? There were more things wrong, but you get the idea. This place needs a re-do, it’s now less than mediocre and I’ll never come back. I’m really upset with myself for wasting all that time driving to and from this place. I should have stayed on South beach or check help. Junies deserve no stars, but lucky for them, Unilocal requires at least 1, cho!!! There was a jerk van outside called Freddies and he saved the day, his jerk chicken put Junies to shame! goodbye Junies, my love affair with this place is over.

I had never tried Jamaican food before Junie’s, but a Jamaican lady in my ACLS class suggested it. The lady that takes down the orders said that people get hooked on the fried chicken and gravy because they call to put in orders for it as soon as the restaurant opens. haha I believe it because my other classmate tried it for the first time and ended up ordering another plate to go! I decided to try the oxtail and it was definitely a good choice! I’m not sure how to describe the sauce, but it was good and the meat fell off the bone. The rice and beans were a little moist, not dry, but also very good. I really wanted to try the fried chicken the next day that I went, but it wasn’t going to be ready for another 20 mins and I was on a time crunch so I went with the oxtail again. That dish just never disappoints. I’m not sure why Junie’s has such a low rating… the workers were friendly, the place was clean, and the food was delicious! I’m a new fan of Jamaican food. =)

Disgusting!!! My husband and I were so disappointed that we wanted a refund for the tasteless food and waste of $ 20.00. Don’t waste your money or taste buds…

Cons: Closes way to early Small menu Selection Don’t like the fact that everybody just uses the salad dressing like that… Slow Service(Best if you can call in order ahead of time) Pro: Best Callaloo and Salt Fish in town Best Fried/Brown Stew Chicken I ever tasted. Seasoned to perfection. Nice Oxtail Gravy not oxtail but gravy… Oxtails are just ok, I’ve bought better. They do carry a crowd so the food does turn over quickly; no stale sitting food. Wide selection of drinks. Decent looking eating area(NOT a Hole in the Wall type of Joint) Will be returning here now and then but only if I’m in the mood for the Brown Stew Chicken; which so far is the best I’ve bought before. They do there’s a little different than most and I really like the sauce.

I visited Junie’s today and I am a FAN! I liked the fact that it is NOT a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, you can actually sit, breathe & just relax. I got so comfortable that I sat & ate my food there & charged my phone using one of their wall outlets lol. I was surprised to see that so many people were just doing take-out tonight so the restaurant tables & chairs were not being utilized. Better for me because it felt like I had the restaurant all to myself. But like a previous review mentioned, most of those tables & chairs appear to be just for people who are waiting on food. There are no actual waiters to serve or assist. Now on to the FOOD: the food was very good. I was surprised. I ordered a jerk chicken meal with rice & peas, gravy on the rice and there was a salad on the side. It was all very delicious. The jerk season was just right & spicy enough, although not TOO spicy. I wish it were spicier but it was still very good. I deducted a star and gave this establishment 4-stars because the staff and service was not as quick as I would have liked; although they were nice & I saw no attitude problems from them. They appeared to be working hard in the background but they had LOTS of orders to fulfill due to a Heat/NBA Finals game tonight. I waited at LEAST30 minutes before they finally took my order. Also, the fact that I practically did everything myself… got my own soda, seated myself, and got my own condiments. Overall, this was a good place & I will be visiting their establishment and eating their food in the future.

I gave it 2 stars because the food was just OK. I’ve had better and being that it was my first time to the restaurant, I must say the customer service is atrocious(just aweful). I will not visit that restaurant again. For customer service to be aweful, the food must be a hit, and that it was NOT. Never visit again

I didn’t eat the food. I want to make that clear, I am only review the service. My sister called in a lunch order, since I didn’t have anything to work on, I offered to pick it up. They said 10 minutes, so I got there 15 minutes later. 30 minutes later I finally walked out of the Restaurant with the food. Triple the time is not acceptable.

2.75 out of 5 would be my true rating but Unilocal wants to keep things whole so 3 it is. Was in the Miami Gardens area with my bff for the 6th Annual Jazz in the Gardens and wanted to try a new local treasure and Unilocal about it for future Unilocalers! It’s in a great location, right off of the ever-busy Miami Gardens Drive and seemed like it had potential to deliver an amazing meal… Who doesn’t like really great Island food… exactly, no one that’s who… The Good: *I liked the décor of the restaurant… the bright colors are reminiscent of the beauty you would see on the island itself. *I liked the price $ 8 for a good portion size of food The Bad: *Limited Choices… I say the bad simply because I had a tasting for Jerk Chicken which is one of the most common dishes of the island however, I was told it is only served on certain days of the week… *Ordered the Brown Stew Chicken: I’ve never had brown stew but I’m pretty sure the chicken is not supposed to be fried… I thought the rice and beans lacked flavor and was slightly dry. *Customer Service: If there is one thing that I think is crucial to the success of an organization, restaurant and even person, is how you receive and respond to ppl. Of the three people working there only 2 of the three seemed to be ready and willing to help enhance the dining experience with either supplying utensils as needed or even a napkin… so thank you to the two that helped make the experience bettter! How someone is received can in many cases be the deciding factor sooo let’s try and be a wee bit more cordial… Probably wouldn’t be back since Miami is such a rare visit for me and I’d like to have the best while I’m there.

I have lived in South Florida my entire life and as we all know, it’s a big melting pot. Lots of cultures and tons of different types of restaurants. I eat out a lot and consider myself a food conneiseur(self proclaimed) with sensitive taste buds. Last week, I visited Junie’s on 441 and 183rd for the first time. I ordered the Jerk Chicken(which is only available Wed-Sun) and let me just say, ITWASMAGNIFICENT! I ordered all white meat(which can be dry at some restaurants) and it was phenominal. The meat was juicy and tender and seasoned to the bone. The spice was just-right. Enough kick but not too much that its HOTHOT overload! The rice and peas were sooo nice. Lots of coconut milk and so much flavor. Only negative thing I have to say is, like all other Jamaican Restaurants here in South Florida, the staff is never really friendly. Junie’s is no different. In MY opinion, the lady at the counter seemed a bit angry with life. I went back today for the Brown Stew chicken and a different person was working the counter, still not too nice. The food is absolutely worth it though so I will keep going back but hopefully they get nicer.
