Family Oriented — sure everyone loves their family but these two include them in every major decision and celebration. For her boo’s 30^th surprise birthday party, which she planned, I taught all the adults how to play flip-​cup. All the kids jumped out of the pool and complained about not being included. Jenny convinced their guardians and we played a multi-​generational game (from 9 to 59 y.o.) multi-​beverage (kids got 7UP mixed with Hawaiian Punch). The family that plays together stays together.
Common Appreciation of Interests — He loves beer and football, she loves wine and fashion. I’ve seen George sashaying at fashion shows and rubbing elbows with wine snobs. I’ve seen Jenny rally with the Canes at tailgates and support her future husband’s use of a beer helmet. They embrace each other’s lifestyles and don’t try to enforce detrimental changes.
Accepting of Each Other’s Friends — Most of Jenny’s friends are her family. George has enough to donate. Jenny had been inviting me over to their house forever but it was never convenient. After an Elite event nearby it finally was and in typical G ‘n R fashion we overindulged. George being a worthless heathen of a host immediately passed out on his couch. Jenny offered me pepperoni pizza and beer. 20 minutes later dinner was served and she said, «Take whatever you want from the fridge.» When I opened the it I knew she loved me like a brother. In it was a previously cooked 4 mushroom pizza that would’ve killed me and some Dogfish Head beers and Heineken Lights. I would’ve been happy picking off the poop trees off my pie, but she didn’t make me. Heine Lights are about $ 1.50 retail, while Dogfish runs about $ 4 and that’s what I was drinking. While George was gnawing on his which he wrapped up like a burrito and trying to pry the Palo Santo out of my hands, Jenny was busy preparing a second one. Now that’s a fine lady that takes care off her greedy man’s friends like they were her own.
I’ve witnessed their courtship from the beginning and know I won’t live to see the end. I don’t have a doubt in my mind that they found each other in this life and will find each other in everyone thereafter. I am not going to sit here and tell you that I knew as soon as I saw Jenny that I would one day ask her to be my wife… I did know the second time I saw her though. The first time I saw her I knew wanted to kiss her. The second time I saw her I knew I wanted to kiss her forever
Although I had no doubt what her answer would be, asking someone to be your wife is a lot more nerve-​wracking then you ever think it would be. First I had to ask her parents for their blessings. I guess I didn’t really have to do this but I wanted to since Face is so close to her family. I also wanted them to know that they were important, that their feelings were important and that I have the utmost respect for them. Up until this point, the only person I had told of my plans was my Dad and when I did, I did it with a pride and confidence that comes with knowing that what I was doing was the right thing.
The night I asked her parents though was a bit different. I could not help myself from crying. I could not help myself from shaking. Most of all, the words that I had practiced over and over could not come out exactly right. After worrying them and finally uttering enough of something that they understood what I was trying to say, her dad Lucho (a man of very few words) said something that I will never forget — «We’ve been waiting for this»
I asked Jenny to marry me on December 21 2011. I wanted the proposal to be private and something that only we would be able to share. The particulars of this I will keep to ourselves but to put it mildly, it was perfect. What I can tell you is that no matter how confident you are of her answer, no matter how many times you play it in your head, it’s never like the real thing. It’s just more. More happiness, more fun, more kisses, more excitement, more everything.
The months after the proposal have been incredible. The wedding planning has been mostly fun. We are going to do things the «Yibbie» way which means it’s going to be a lot of fun, dancing, laughing and other things that end with ing. We are throwing tradition and having a great time in a pot, mixing it up, adding a little honey and good music and see what happens.
I am more in love with her now than ever. Not a day goes by that I don’t look at her with wonder and amazement and I get to see her like no one else does. She not only completes me, she makes me better.
