Friday night, my brother and I wanted some fried seafood takeout and I received a Groupon email earlier in the day for this place so we decided to give it a try. The pics of the food on their FB looked amazing and the menu options listed on their app made it seem like a really great option for quick seafood since the only other option in the area that I know of is Snappers on Colonial, and that gets boring fast. So we called to place our order. It was 8:30 and they close at 9pm so I wasn’t that upset when they said they were out of most of what we wanted to order. We wanted to order: 2 Shrimp and Conch platters with peas and rice, 1 whole snapper dinner with peas and rice, 2 mac & cheese sides, 1 dressed conch, 2 orders of deviled eggs. They were out of the peas & rice, had no more conch, and no deviled eggs. We called less than 30 min before closing so fair enough. They suggested the seafood rice as an alt so we went with that, skipped the eggs, and doubled up on the shrimp to replace the conch. I appreciated that they gave us the option of ordering a large or small snapper. In 20 minutes we were told the food would be ready. We got to West Perrine around 9:15pm and if you are not familiar with that area, it’s not a place you want to be alone at that time of night. I’m talking, crackheads, drunks, and other sketchy people walking around at all hours. You want to triple-lock your car doors. It took us a bit to find the place because they’d moved from the address that was listed on the Groupon and on Unilocal. It’s actually now at 17640 Homestead Ave, a block or two further down. It’s a walk-up whole-in-the-wall type of place. There is a covered patio in the back where some people were playing pool and listening to music. I guess you could eat there, but I wouldn’t. You could see into the kitchen and everything appeared clean and orderly. Our food was not ready yet, however we needed the extra time to drive to an ATM to get cash because even though they honor Groupons, they are not yet set up to take credit/debit cards. When we returned it took maybe another 15 minutes before our food was up. By 10 or so we were back home with a load of fried seafood goodness. The shrimp were jumbo and seasoned and deep-fried to perfection. The snapper was also well cooked and head attached, just as my mother prefers. The seafood rice was tasty and had pieces of shrimp and calamari in it. The mac & cheese would have been great, and I’m not sure if we got the last pan or what, but it was full of salt, and I mean FULL of salt. I’m hoping that the amount of salt they put in the mac was an accident b/c you almost couldn’t eat it due to the salt. I could tell it would’ve been really good because they used real cheddar cheese and it had those yummy brown crusty corners. I will definitely try this place again and earlier in the day to be able to sample their conch and other menu options. I would never go here late-night unless I’m with another person. The way they cooked their seafood was excellent, the rice was on-point, and that mac had potential.

It’s fairly good seafood for the price! Quick & polite service is always worth 4 stars in Miami!
