I was having lunch and shopping for the first time in the design district, and came upon the Marni store. I was peering through window to see if they had men’s in the location. A sales person stared at me with an awful look on his face, gestured to his coworker for her to look at me, and both started laughing. Not sure what the joke is besides their clear lack of foot traffic. I work in ready to wear for a major fashion house, so I like to think I grasp looking publicly presentable, so I guess I’ll have to keep guessing what made them react that way towards me. They say a bad experience at a store leads a customer to influencing at least 7 people out of shopping there… I guess we’ll see.

And I still have my eye on that leather jacket with a detachable leather hood and zippable sleeves to turn it into a vest. Or that cool looking business shirt that is totally my style, with a thin tie to go with it. Actually, I’d take anything from their small tiny section they have for the men of the world. But point is, I LOVE Marni — for the style and taste. I dislike it for the prices, so minus one star. There’s a 50% off clearance section right now(summer season?), so it gets a star back. But those clearance are women clothings — no men clothing in clearance? Star back out. But oh, the style! Ugh… star back in! Yeah, male-biased — and they need to expand on the offerings for the males of Miami.

Remember those jelly shoes from elementary school? They started making a comeback last summer and they might show up again this summer especially if Marni has anything to say about it. For the second year in a row they have released jellies. My favorite are the fuschia pink/neon orange color, that scream MIAMI! Other than bright jelly shoes this store has plenty of drool inspiring pieces, the intricacy in some of the items is amazing. My favorite were two skirts one was giving you librarian all day long especially with ballet flats and a short sleeve sweater. The other reminded me of shiny, woven seaweed aka both timeless pieces. And timeless is the style of Marni, an Italian line with a great sense of style not trends. As with other designer shops the prices are also designer. A girl can dream and plan accordingly… I do have a birthday once a year ;)

This gorgeous store in Miami’s Design District is a newborn at just six weeks old. The staff, of which there are many, manage to be some of the friendliest I’ve encountered in these parts — pointing out the resort collection as well as the sale rack(which I, naturally, made a beeline for.) I’ve long been a fan of the incredible textural elements found in Marni pieces. Take the woven raffia skirt and top I stopped to admire this afternoon — it reminded me of roasted seaweed, with its slick sheen and crispness when touched. Nearly everything I admired in the store today had an almost confection-like appeal, as though the dresses had been whipped into frilly, sweet treats. I’ll probably stick to admiring this wearable art on the pages of WWD and the like but if ever I’m on the verge of making a major fashion investment Marni will be one of the first places I’ll begin my research.
