Affordable and just a short walk away from the tour bus filled Azucar! Had a delicious $ 2 scoop of pistachio. And by scoop I mean a generous large scoop. Ice cream is ice cream on a hot day :)

I’m not sure what the deal is about this place. Do not come here for the ice cream unless if you don’t mind buying ice cream from the supermarket. Yes, you read that right, they serve the same local flavor ice cream(ie. Mantecado, mamey, guava, etc) that we people in Miami can get in Sedano’s — Valentini brand, to be more specific. At least that’s what their ice cream«barrels» say. But why three stars instead of a lower rating? Because they are definitely affordable. Downright cheap, I may add. And… The churros are made from scratch. In other words– come for the churros, not for the ice cream. And you’ll be pleased that this place has been around for years in Miami.

The price and portion were perfect. But the flavors arent right. They are good but nothing like they are described. Even the fruity flavors had way too much milk in it so everything ended up tasting very similar.

Used to be a gold mine, now some new owners bought it and messed it up. Still pretty good, just slow as death

I *love* this place! As previous reviewers have noted, it’s been a staple of Calle Ocho(SW8th Street) for decades, and had the décor to prove it. The owners had Old World style, and were charming and very welcoming to their guests. Well, they sold the shop which has been completely renovated. It’s beautiful and stylish now. And the new owners are just as welcoming(though I think not yet as at-ease as proprietors as the previous, decades-long couple were). I never tried the ice cream here, only the churros. And they’re still made in the same fantastic way!

Overall: The best icecream(and most exotic) in the US at the VERYBESTPRICES! The Deets: King’s Ice Cream has been in the same location(inside an old strip mall area) since about the early 1960s!!! If that alone doesn’t tell you how amazing it is, then the rest of this Unilocal-review won’t help. They make all homemade icecream in their kitchen with tons of flavors. The regulars such as vanilla, chocolate, cookies/cream. But they specialize in the fruits and exotics like Coconut, Mamey(must try because they are one of the few places in the world that makes this fruit flavor that I have found), Guanabana, Guava, Banana, Strawberry, etc… All for just about 2 bucks!!! Can’t beat that. Secondly, they specialize in Churros… most people know churros from the high-priced single sticks sold in major cities and amusement parks… Well you are in for a surprise! These churros are handmade ONTHESPOTWHENYOUORDER, ready in minutes, and come with a whole bag of them… for only about 2 bucks! This is a must-stop location that only the locals know about… and now you do too.

While my initial impression of this place was that I had stepped through some sort of surreal portal to the middle of the last century, I was quickly transported to the present where the sweet rewards made it worth the trip. Fantastic FRESH fried churros and some of the best coconut ice cream I might ever have. The guava ice cream had some ice crystals, which may be the only reason I cannot give this place five stars. Well, that and the fact that it is 40 – 50 years overdue for a remodeling job. But if you can get past the faded appearance, it is well worth the trip. And an incredible value, as well.

5 stars for the retro-depression experience 2 star for the churros 4 stars for the ice cream This place would have looked as old 40 years ago as it does now. I’ve never been to Cuba, but I can imagine this place fitting quite well over there.

Well, although the mango ice cream was OK even with the chunks of ice crystals, the cone was a bit stale. I can imagine cause this place doesn’t have much business so they can get a little stale. Tupperware may solve that problem. Also, be warned, it’s really smelly in here, burning oil smelly. Didn’t care for that scent. Only reason I went in here is because my husband decided to walk in and throw away his empty bottle of power-aid in his trashcan. I assume there were other treats in this joint but the intense oily smell kept me from investigating any further. If you’re in the area, you might as well support this neighborhood establishment. More business might do it good.

Good flavor but a little too icy and not so creamy. The scoops are not particularly big and the place has no atmosphere. Still,… I’d be happy to come back to this place to see that neighborhood places like these stay around. They say they have churros here too. I didn’t see any. Maybe in the winter? FYI, there’s a fritas place in this same strip mall that ROCKS!

Okk so I stopped by to pick up a frita at El Rey de Las Fritas in the same shopping strip when I saw a sign for the Kings Ice Cream. I am not a big fan of ice cream but I kept reading and I read«churros» con guava, dulce leche, and chocolate. So… it had me at hello! I told my husband u go to the right(to pick up the frita) and I go to the left to get some churros. It was 10pm on the dot and when I walked in the lady said IMCLOSED(estoy serada). I was like ohhhhhhhhh man: o( I get in my car, as I wait disappointed for my husband to come back with the frita, and the lady started to wave at me by her window calling me to come back… She then said; I’m sorry cause the flashing OPEN sign was on, I’ll make you churros. And so she did!!! Omgggggggggg the best churros I have ever tasted! She sprinkled a little sugar, chocolate, dulce leche & guava! 6 nice sized churros with toppings for $ 2.00. Can’t beat that with a bat! It was great and I thanked her for taking the time to change her mind: o)

Churros, churros, CHURROS! I haven’t had the ice cream here, but the churros are DEEELIIISH! All four of the people I went with loveeeed the churros con guayaba! I was a little disappointed to learn they werent filled, but covered in guava, but I forgot it all with the first bite. These are the yummy Cuban style churros, as opposed to the Mexican-style, which are crispy throughout. The Cuban ones are better in my opinion – crispy outside and soft and fluffy inside ~~yum~~. Covered in sugar and drizzed with mermelada de guyaba, what could be better?! Side note: The lady working here isn’t a very happy individual… prepare yourself to ignore her easily-frustrated nature to enjoy some amazing churros. 1 star docked for service.

DISCLAIMER: I have never had the ice cream at this place nor do I care to! I am only reviewing King’s Ice Cream for their churros! YES, freshly made churros with endless sugar. I’ve been coming here with my grandmother since I was a little girl, and this place hasn’t changed since! The place is scary looking with walls begging for a fresh coat of paint but don’t fear, for there is pure yumminess inside. Churros are sold 6 for a dollar and are made right in front of you. I personally love that there are jars filled with sugar so you can add sugar to your liking. I’m pretty convinced they don’t sell too much of the ice cream but can assure you every time I’m there, people come in for the churros. My friends and I love to eat next door at El Rey De Las Fritas and go to King’s for dessert. Best combo if you ask me! I mean, c’mon, 6 churros for $ 1?! only in Little Havana! oh yeah and maybe Hialeah…

Don’t be scared! The place has not been renovated since 1966. The man who serves you was 20 years old when the parlor opened and his father who is 90 years old still goes everyday to work. The first thing that caught my eye was the churro making contraption peeking out the window. That is what drew me in. These churros are long pieces of dough that are dropped into scorching oil and fried. Cuban churros are typically thin and short. They are normally placed in a double lined brown bag. sugar is then poured in and then shaken vigoursly. No cinnamon, no extrsa, just sugary goodness. They also have an assortment of Caribbean ice creams like mango and mamey. The special treat is their coco glacé. It’s a small coconut that has been cut in half and the meat is scooped out the prepared into a coconut ice cream, its then placed back into the hollowed out half coconut shell. I did not try it but my friend said it was amazing, even for someone who does not like coconut dishes. I will try it next time, i was just too busy with the churros. :)
