We stumbled upon this place intrigued by its street presentation. We were very pleased with the ambiance on a Saturday night. The ambiance lively but not loud with a nice mixed age group for a nice dinner date . I ordered the Salmon Papillote and was very impressed as it takes an experienced chef to make it just right. My husband had the Lomo Salteado. All delicious! We’ll be back.

I had been wanting to go to Jean Paul’s House for a while based on its reviews here on Unilocal and its location in wynwood, where most restaurants are delish! This was a good restaurant in Wynwood area, but it didn’t blow me away. The food is tasty, but a bit generic. It probably would have been a restaurant I considered great in Miami 10 – 15 years ago. We went on a Saturday night at 10p and it wasn’t too packed — actually we were one of 4 tables. We had the prosciutto and manchego empanada and the ceviche for appetizer. We then had the braised short rib with polenta(a true favorite combination for me) and a quinoa paella. We ended with the profiteroles for dessert. I’m happy I tried it, but I don’t know that I’ll be going back. It’s worth a try but considering all of Miami’s amazing restaurants that are popping up, it may be a while before I return. It’s a great spot with lots of potential so I’m really hoping they up the ante.

my palette was not wowed by jean paul’s house. at all. wanted to take advantage(yet again) of miami spice, so nat g. and i did just that. appetizer: shrimp causa. pretty good but nothing special. i’m almost certain that the sauce was mayo and ketchup combined. entrée: corvina sandwich — just ok. shrimp risotta — blah. no flavor whatsoever. dessert: orange crème — decent. maybe i tried all the wrong things, who knows! but i am not likely to return here. plus, the overpowering smell of humidity didn’t help.

One of the best place to eat in South Florida… «Amazing food». Jean Paul’s house is a vey small and secluded cozy place that offers a variety of delicious daily specials. We had the octopus ceviche as an appetizer and it was very good. In fact, it was the best ceviche that I’ve had thus far. For the entrée, my wife had the deconstructed lobster ravioli and it was delicious. The desert was also good and my wife and I had the bread pudding with the lemon sorbet. The only bad thing that I can say about the place is that there are no available parking lots in the neighborhood; therefore, you must only valet because the neighborhood isn’t that safe. Overall, great atmosphere, ambiance, and food:)

I been wanting to try this place forever. I was looking through the Miami Spice menus online and this place stood out as a must try. I did the Miami Spice $ 33. My appetizers was amazing corvine crudo with an amazing sauce. For my entrée I did the black ink squid risotto with squid and two nice pieces of shrimp on top. Dessert was amazing I had the coconut panna cotta. The service was really good too. Defintely worth checking out. Place is not that big and it got pretty crowded I recommend making a reservation,.

Went these for the first time. Does not have the look or décor of your typical Peruvian restaurant, which is not good or bad. Overall décor looks nice, only complaint would be the low ceiling makes it a bit too noisy to have a conversation when you are with 6 people and the room temperature was a bit too warm. According to the waiter they had it as low as possible, but I think it was not sufficient for the place, maybe the need a larger unit. We had the Miami Spice menu and it was really good and plentiful, included nice deserts as well. Overall nice place and would go back again when is a bit cooler outside.

Came on a date night… Had the Miami Spice menu. Great atmosphere & background ambiance music. I felt like it was homey & comfy. The food was pretty good. We had the Corvina appetizer and the Eggplant Carpaccio, for main course I had the Corvina & she had the Lomo. We had a great Pino with it and dessert. This place makes for a great dinner night dates place.

Wonderful food, décor and service. For appetizers, we ordered the daily ceviche(which had mango — yum), the escargot and the crab cake. All were amazing… I can’t pick a favorite! I went with my family in celebration of my mom’s birthday and I was able to try everyone’s dishes: — braised short ribs + polenta — duck confit + cilantro and guinness risotto(special) — sea scallops + parsnip mash(special) — NY strip — shrimp risotto The sea scallop dish was great. I had never had parsnip mash before and now I definitely plan on making my own version at home. The risotto and the duck confit were also delicious. The other two were pretty good, but nothing outstanding. Although that bleu cheese sauce that comes with the steak was really flavorful. For dessert, our table ordered the peach and chocolate bread pudding, the suspiro, the alfajores and the profiteroles. The suspiro was so delicious! Although I do love dulce de leche(and there was a lot of it)… HIGHLY recommend. But make a reservation first!

Intimate, classy house converted into a restaurant in the heart of Wynwood, Jean Paul House is the perfect place for a romantic dinner. During winter, the outdoor area must also be extra charming. We were greeted with 2 little fig appetizers that set the tone for the whole evening. A little noisy at moments, our server recited the night specials and I fell in love with the scallops decorated with asparagus and bedded on a purée root(not potato, but really good). Didn’t give it 5 stars because the tables were too close to our neighbors, making the conversation a bit complicated. A silly guy even started an unwanted chat with us. Bummer! I definitely try it again in a less busy night.

I loved it. Great little restaurant, we sat outside by the side on the patio and thankfully the weather was not too hot so we enjoyed. Very romantic place for a date. The only thing i didn’t like too much was the music. Old 40’s music i am not a big fan of, but other than that the ambiance was great. Our waiter was great. His name escapes me at the moment. He was friendly and attentive. He broke the cork opening our wine bottle and he quickly went to get a new one for us. He gave us great recommendations and was right. Everything i tasted we delicious and well prepared. We truly enjoyed each and every plate. We ordered the combination ceviche, manchego cheese empanadas, chick peas with spinach and chorizo, beet salad with blood orange, pork belly and scallops special. What a food-gasm! For dessert we tried the honey pana cota which was really sweet but i like my dessert sweet. it was yummy. Great food, well prepared, good ambiance, great service and quality. what else is there?. Winning!

Secluded home turned into a fabulous restaurant. Tucked away on NE2nd in Wynwood that I have driven by so many times and ignored. Thankfully one day I decided to check out the reviews… on of course my favorite wenbsite Unilocal! I saw some of my trusted friends had given great reviews so we went. When we first walked in we were greeted asap. They have a nice bar in one corner and the décor is modern yet simple and elegant. Our server was excellent. He told us about half price bottles of wine this particular evening and all of the food specials. Service was so good, they really know how to make you feel comfortable. I took full advatage of the half priced wine and ordered a Super Tuscan which I love«Guado Al Tasso». Nice stems, perfect temp, yes I was quite happy. We ordered an emapnada appetizer cause it sounded interesting. Proscuitto and Machengo. Hubby liked it, it was just ok for me. Don’t get me wrong the empanada itself was great I just did not care for the combination. I ordered a pasta dish with bolignese and it was fantastic. The menu is small with some interesting combinations. We really enjoyed our meal here. If your looking for small quaint with great service and unique entrees check them out. Prices are mid range.

A beautiful option for date night. Beautiful, fresh cuisine, impeccable service and a good selection of salads, proteins, fish, and pasta. The beet salad to start was great. And the risotto — AMAZING. You can’t go wrong with Lomo Saltado, Bouillabaise or Chicken Breast. Their wines are also delicious and pair well with the food. When we went, the(older art) crowd was nice and added touches of sophistication to the overall vibe of the restaurant. I will be back again!

Wonderful weeknight date spot! Great atmosphere — romantic without being overly feminine — with a cute porch that must be nice the two weeks of the year it’s not too hot in Miami. Also has a private room tucked away in the back that would be great for private parties. Service was excellent(thanks, Ana!). The Prosciutto & Manchego Empanadas were to die for! Also had the Tiradito, Crab Cake and Bread Pudding — all were full of great flavors. Good wine list too… Only extra touch I was hoping for: we were among the first diners on a slower weeknight and saw the chef chatting with his staff in the dining room for several minutes — wish he would have said hello :)

Psst! hey! you! Yes, you! Let me tell you about this place. Ya gotta try JP’s House. We really need to give this place some love and attention. It’s new. It has some things to iron out. BUT, It is on it’s way to being amazing. Arrived on time for a 7pm reservation. Parked in the small next door lot that fits about 6 – 7 cars. Not sure where the other cars park once this one is full. The place is small but the layout is well done enough to fit the max it possibly can. There are two larger tables towards the front facing the street that are great for larger parties. The rest are seating for 2 – 4 as well as bar seating and several veranda outdoor tables. There is a small TV by the bar which I found a little out of place but perhaps the ones at the bar appreciate it? There was soft jazz playing and it was very quiet at first. By the time I left you could not hear the music anymore because it was fairly loud and lively in there. We sat right away and received our special Gilt menus as well as the regular menus to see the descriptions of what was listed on the Gilt ones. Our special included 1 appetizer, 1 entrée, 1 dessert and a glass of Prosecco. I had read, however, about the bites on Unilocal so we decided to order those to start. We had one of each(except the eggplant one): empanadas, olives, garbanzos and chips. Before the bites came out we got served a scallops amuse bouche. It was really good but what killed it for me was the Party City type bite size PLASTIC spoon it came in. Somehow the angled plastic sides of the spoon rolled on my tongue after the scallops did. It would be OK at a casual lunch in someones backyard but NOT at this restaurant. JP, ever heard of ceramic or other finer materials? What were you thinking??? The bites were a hit. The empanadas(2-cut in half) were out of this world. Next best would be the garbanzos(with chorizo). We ordered our appetizers next and also went with one of each(since we were 4). Meatballs, pork belly, tiradito and octopus. And just because, we ordered another round of empanadas. Why not? The winner in this round was the pork belly. Delicious. All the portions were small but still good enough to share since we enjoyed trying a bit of everything. Next time, no one is coming near my order of pork belly though. The meatballs, pork belly and octopus all came out together. The flounder tiradito came last. I wish it would have been first. It was light, refreshing and exquisite but was not meant to go after the heartiness of the rest of the appetizers. We brought our wine although I must say that their wine list was very well priced and not highway robbery as usual in most restaurants. Corkage fee is $ 20.00. The only problem was the goblets. Our waitress offered proper red wine goblets to go with our wine but then came back and said we could not have them. They were not offered when it’s for wine with a corkage fee. Huh? When we pressed her and looked very confused by this ridiculous rule she said, well, they only had 6 and they were expecting another party who would get them. OK– note to JPH, buy enough goblets to serve diners in. All of them. The main entrees came. We had the braised short ribs with polenta, the bouillabaisse, and a couple of lomo saltados. The clear best choice here was the short ribs. The polenta needed a little bit of salt for our taste but it was almost perfect otherwise. The lomo saltados came in a pool of balsamic like stock. The tenderloins were good only when dipped into it. Otherwise it seemed a little dry. Not sure if maybe it was just a little bit overcooked? It was still good enough to finish and the portion was just right. The bouillabaisse was flawless but you are almost left wanting it to have a denser, buttery taste than it’s simple one. Desserts were up next. We had the passion fruit tart, the coffee panna cotta and the brownie. The panna cotta was surprisingly very good and I am usually not a fan. The brownie and tart were just OK. We also had some cortaditos which were done perfectly(temperature, taste and size) I reminded our waitress that our Gilt special came with a glass of prosecco each. She apologized for forgetting and brought those out instantly in chilled glasses. Nice touch. All in all, I feel like the ambiance, bites and appetizers are the stars here. You can tell the ingredients are top notch. The service was great. The entrees and desserts need some tweaking as do their rules about isolating/faulting wine bringing diners and serving spoons too! A couple of more notes: The bathroom is towards the back. To get to it you pass a private dining table that sits about 6 – 8. Quaint. As I was leaving, the chef/owner of one of my favorite Coral Gables restaurants came in to dine. We said hello and then he accused us of cheating on him. Ha! Yet, he was here. I think this speaks volumes of this place’s potential and quality. Will give them another try soon. You should too!

We really enjoyed the service and the ambiance when we went about a month ago. The surrounding neighborhood is a bit of a dive, but this is a diamond in the rough. It has an intimate feel that combines dark wood with a touch of shabby chic wall décor. All of the meals were tasty, but I can’t say anything truly stuck out. The restaurant is still figuring out how to describe the cuisine. In theory it is Peruvian fusion, but the menu can appear a bit all over the place. I think they could do a better job of explaining the Peruvian elements in the dishes(because yes, many of us need education on what Peruvian food entails).

Man, there are two things that have been tickling my belly button as of late: thing the first, that Wynwood is growing like ivy up the façade of some old timey building; and thing the second, that Peruvian food is getting a lot of play across the South Florida landscape. As a guy with a ton of Peruvian friends, I’ve been exposed to this stuff for nigh on fifteen or sixteen years, and I absolutely love it. Now, I will say this… Jean Paul’s House is billed as something of a Peruvian fusion joint, but in having eaten there and in looking over the menu, there really isn’t much about Peru that jumps out at me. This, however, is not an indictment. It may simply be attributed to the fact that, seeing as I’m not Peruvian, I’m just not as well-versed on the food as I’d like to be. Truthfully, though I’ve eaten quite a bit of it, it really is tough to comment viably on the fare until you’ve walked the streets of a country and seen what the locals see on a daily basis. Sadly, I’ve yet to make my way to Peru, but I really hope to do so one day. For really reals. The restaurant itself is very artfully put together, though I use the word artful a little loosely. Really, there’s almost a sort of minimalism that’s incorporated into the chic décor, which I can totally get behind. There’s also a great deal of seating, which can prove to be a bad thing if the place is slammed(eavesdropping, however unintentional, is an inevitability), but luckily, that particular night, it was not. We started with a bottle of wine and chips served with a side of Huancaina sauce for dipping. I freaking LOVE Huancaina sauce. I could put that stuff on anything — ANYTHING — and I’m convinced it’ll taste like angel wings. Delicious, delicious angel wings… As a main dish, I ordered the Bell & Evans Airlines Chicken Breast, and thinking back on it, I wish I’d taken a picture of the dish. The presentation was reminiscent of the kinds of plates that you would see at a froufrou restaurant(remember that scene in «Demolition Man» where Taco Bell was all of a sudden a gourmet establishment?), but the way that the chicken breast rested on the plate with a bone protruding from the meat was just rustic and animalistic, which utterly appealed to my caveman propensities. Served alongside some roasted sweet potatoes, the entire dish screamed of simplicity, the kind that just allows the food to speak for itself without anything eclipsing what nature intended. Jean Paul’s House is a nice little addition to the neighborhood. And I’m not sure what some of the other reviewers may have encountered in terms of service, but I would describe it as delightful and accommodating. We had an absolutely wonderful waitress. Of Scandinavian or Eastern European descent. Oh the diversity… Keep rocking it out, Jean Paul’s. I’ll be back soon. And you better not be running low on Huancaina sauce.

Visited Jean Paul about two weeks ago and totally loved it! First off, yes. the area is kinda sketchy but once you walk inside, it’s a total different scene. Totally impressed with the décor, chic and inviting. During this first visit I tried the Eggplant carpaccio and the Spinach Salad… both were totally well executed, fresh and tasty! Our waiter was very nice and polite making our dinner a total delight. This is def a great addition to Wynwood and I will def be coming back.

Out with the old and in with the new. Completely new. That’s how I felt when I entered Jean Paul — they’ve not only renovated the space that used to house a coffeeshop, but it feels like it has entirely been redone. Nothing feels like left over from the coffeeshop days. What I saw instead was a refined and romantic space that just oozes with character — in an essence, right when I walked in, I knew I would be returning. With candles, beautiful wallpapers, seductive modern woods at the wine bar, and rustic wooden chairs that just gives this a cozy cottage feel — almost as if it was Mandolin Aegean Bistro — how could I not? But this place feels even cleaner and more refined without having to stuff it up to your face. It is still a cottage, after all. They’ll also have a market open soon in the back room they have in the cottage — and it should feature housemade gourmet items such as their own infused olive oils, prepared meals, etc. The cuisine offered in the restaurant is very much Peruvian-influenced international cuisine, with a focus on locally-sourced ingredients. I only stopped by briefly to get a sampling, but from the one item I had, which was the crispy pork belly appetizer cooked in pisco brandy and grapes with mashed sweet potato, I was already impressed. It was rich and bold in flavor, and the perfectly balanced juice was great for mopping with the bread that was served. I would order this again, without a doubt. I also have my eyes on the flounder tiradito, which I plan on ordering soon, as well as several other menu options. Value-wise, I thought it was very reasonable, considering the portions and the flawless service(thanks Maritza!). Lunch and dinner prices does not fluctuate except by a few dollars for the main entrée items, making this place a good deal for a great meal at either times. They also have happy hour where the wines by the glass are half off, starting at 3PM, with affordable bite size appetizers being available for order(you’d have to wait for dinner at 6PM to order from the full menu again). This is definitely a perfect date spot and also a refined yet comfortable«chilling» spot.

We’ve been eyeing the renovations at Jean Paul’s for some time now. Anything brave enough top try launching in the oft-shady, colorful section of NE2nd Ave between Braman dealers and NE29th Street deserves a little credit. As we walked into the restaurant, which occupies a fabulous restored bungalow complete with coral rock features, I ran into my best friend’s boss who runs the ad agency next door – this was a promising sign, as they know what’s what in Miami. We were summarily impressed with the dark wood wine bar and modern-yet-comfortable dining room. Linen napkins are always a nice touch, as were the fresh baby roses on every table. I cannot wait to return and check out the dining room lit by candles for a glass or three of wine for their happy hour(3−6P). This place looks GREAT! Now, to the food. We sampled the Crispy Pork Back, the Black Angus burger and roast pork sandwich. All three dishes were exactly what we wanted, and the prices are right(3 people had lunch – no booze – for $ 37 before tipping). The wine list is well-edited and there’s a glass or bottle to suit every taste and budget. I encourage you to see what the pioneers are doing over at Jean Paul’s – I may even see you there.
