This place is pricy but portions are generous. I would say sharing the tapas is a good idea. The house wine are excellent. I tried a tempranillo and it was exquisite. Will go again.

I took a long time to try this place out, considering that this restaurant has been open for maybe 5 years, because I saw that they had opened under the former name of Jamon, Jamon, Jamon(something so nice, that it was named… thrice?). When they renamed the restaurant from JJJ to JIPN, I had the impression that the place was still finding its ground — and at the same time, there are a plethora of other Spanish restaurants in Miami. But perhaps waiting this long allowed for the menu to be further refined — because most things I have tried tasted better than competition. Little did I know behind the person who has been running the kitchen all these years. Chef and owner Felipe Perez had always been at the helm. And he has experience under his brow — having trained and worked in Madrid before moving to Miami in 1975 and becoming the cofounder and executive chef of several popular local Spanish restaurants such as the locally famous Casa Juancho in Little Havana. While Casa Juancho may not be that great now, it did have its heyday, in Cuban old Miami. And that heyday has moved over to this luxury riverfront Neo Loft condo tower representing the new Miami. And Felipe struck gold — not only by being one of the few jovial chefs who can also say that he owns the restaurant, but also by producing quality traditional classics with a modern look. We came for lunch, and were able to try the 3-plate 1 ½ hour long Executive Lunch during the weekday, for $ 13.50. And that’s one thing I love about Miami — Executive Lunches can be found in multiple restaurants in this city and they are usually pretty good, and also affordable for the masses. Who needs Miami Spice? But JIPN’s executive lunch knocked the others out of the ballpark — in every aspect of the game, in both quantity and quality. This is what I sampled from the constantly changing executive lunch menu:(++ recommended) First served with excellent complementary house-made bread. :FIRSTCOURSE: ++Broken Eggs & Mushrooms in Casserole — rich, flavorful, balanced, and perfectly cooked(with runny yolk) and works as a great complete starter ++JUDIASVERDES(Spanish-style Green Beans in Tomato Sauce) — this was excellent, flavorful, and perfectly spiced, and may be the best version of this dish I’ve had anywhere CREAMOFMUSSELSSOUP, a thick and heavy cream soup with minced mussels. Good, but not my favorite, especially since the mussels were minced And settled on the bottom and I could not really taste much of the mussels in the cream especially, with the potato filling. I probably would recommend leaving out the potato filling. COMBINATIONPLATTER(a mini-charcuterie plate consisting of top quality ham slices, Manchego cheese, tortilla española, and a delicate croqueta). Good, but the other first course choices shone brighter. :SECONDCOURSE:(only tried two dishes here, both are large portions) ++ROASTSUCKLINGPIG in its juice with a garlic aioli that is not for the faint of heart. It comes presented like as if there were three ribs, since there were three large, long pieces — and they were rich-tasting, a little fatty, but in a good way, and with a thin crispy skin for its crust. A suckling(young) pig is hard to find anywhere, since most places serve older, aged pigs. I find the garlic aioli to go great with the roasted potatoes that were perfectly cooked inside and out(it even tastes a bit like yuca, which I like). ++RICEWITHSHELLS, Razor Clams, Littleneck Clams and Mussels — I did not see mussels but it is all forgivable because there were pieces of stone crabs, which I think is much better. The rice tastes similar to a risotto and a paella dish, and is richly flavorful and not salty — a very enjoyable dish that I would be happy to finish, even though I’m not much of a rice person. :THIRDCOURSE:(dessert, smallest portion — good sweet finish) ++BLACKFORESTCHOCOLATEMOUSSECAKE CARAMELFLANWITHCOCONUT Of the table, only 1 out of 4 were able to finish the meal by the end of the SECOND course. 3 out of 4 were too stuffed to continue eating and we had to take leftovers home(but we still happily ate the dessert). Regular menu may seem to be a bit pricey, with prices for tapas, soups and salads $ 15, entrees $ 35, and desserts $ 8. But after seeing the quality of the ingredients, I really would not have any qualms paying the higher prices for dinner. AMBIENCE: cozy and classy Spanish tavern with bull-fighting relics(even a suit from a famous Venezuelan bull-fighter, and another from Colombia), a head of the bull, and plenty of 5J Jamon Iberico memorablia, and there’s even a large paella pan that feeds 1,000 people. PRICE: Executive lunch menu is well priced; the rest of the menu is pricey, but well worth it. SERVICE: Friendly, attentive, talkative, and professional; and don’t be surprised if the friendly and talkative chef comes to the table. But food takes long to get to the table as it is prepared fresh.

The food was disappointing especially at its price point. Seafood paella was mediocre at best and so were the tapas we ordered. Service was good; parking was easy. Did not have to make a reservation.

If you want to enjoy Spanish food you MUST eat here. Not only the food is really good but the restaurant gives you an excellent environment. The people are very welcoming and they treat you like home. This is my second time having dinner here and this time I could say that is my new favorite Spanish rest. Thanks to the owner and chef Don Felipe for passing by my table and thanks to the servers that they’re beyond friendly. The food is awesome specially if you want to give it a try to new stuff. You must eat«jamón ibérico de bellota» with manchego cheese, pulpo al ajillo, paella a la valenciana, carne de ternera that is made at your table.

Best authentic Spanish food in Miami. Can’t get enough of their cochinillo(roasted suckling pig), and not to mention their great wine selection. After living in Spain for 3 years… it was hard to find a good Spanish Restaurant… this is, without a doubt, the best Miami has to offer. It the total package… ambiance, great food and service.

My favorite restaurant. Amazing food, delicious wine, fresh baked bread is to die for and service is excellent. I strongly recommend the Honoro Vera wine, octopus, and Entrecot steak. Espresso and crema catalana for dessert.

Espectacular sabor y servicio. Superrrr recomendado

Friends were in from out of town and I wanted to take them to Calle Ocho, but it wasn’t the third Friday of the month. What to do? Azucar and dinner it is, with some walking in the middle. The wait staff and chef were gracious AF, making us feel cozy but… in a large restaurant, completely empty at 7pm on a Friday night. Hard to feel opulent or fancy when you can hear yourselves echo off the floor tile. We opted for tapas, rather than paella or main dishes and maybe we zigged when we should have zagged. Dishes were simple, hardy and very authentic fair. The bread? Gasp. I’ll have dreams about it – they apparently fly it in from Spain(I’m guessing everyday, or that we lucked out with a recent shipment). The Sangria was also extraordinary! Probably the best I’ve ever had – but hey, if they can’t deliver on that, I don’t know what I’m doing there. We had the grilled shrimp, mushrooms, croquettes, and a steaming crock of tiny sausages – the Spanish answer to the Little Smokey. Everything was good – especially dipping the bread in the juices – but was I wowed? By the hospitality, yes. But the food, while delicious, was humble. I would go back, I just don’t know when I’ll be tempted to drive all the way out to the terminal end of Calle Ocho, and if I did I would have to order the seafood paella. Though it’s worth noting Pata Negra DOES take reservations! So probably a great restaurant if you’re out for Viernes Culturales and don’t want to starve to death waiting on over priced Cuban.

My wife and I just had an early Valentine’s Day dinner here. The food was terrific, the ambiance was colorful and cozy and the service was amazing. The chef came out during our meal to ensure everything was perfect, which really completed the experience. Everything was cooked and seasoned extremely well — simple and clean, emphasizing the natural flavors of the ingredients. A true hidden gem along the river, a quick escape to Spain.

After my friend Rafa suggested this place, we gave it a try. Came without a reservation and the first attitude from them was positive: Don’t have a reservation? No problem, just wait a little at the bar and we’ll accommodate you, guys! That’s the attitude of a place that appreciate its customers. Going to the food, it was really good. We had the charcuterie and cheese, the croquetas and the spanish tortilla to start. Later, we tried the paella which was really good. Service is friendly, the owner makes sure to come to your table to check on you(he doesn’t bother you, he just stops by) and it makes it a place to come back for sure.

Excellent, a must try… the chef came twice to our table, once to introduce his self then again to see if we were enjoying our meal, staff was very friendly. We ordered tapas octopus, iberico ham and cheese, enters… suckling pig, seafood paella and lamb chops… every dish was excellent.

I had my doubts because of the area. However, the food was great. We have the papaya and rib eye steak. Also, the chef looks like a really nice grandpa.

The service has steadily declined at this place, be prepared to be reprimanded by the server, if you can believe it! It is a shame because the owner is really sweet and doesn’t deserve to have staff like that. The price for the fixed menu changed thus lowering the value you got from the place and making it much less attractive. Pitty :(

I came for lunch yesterday with my friend(who’s been there a number of times). We were greeted like if we were family. The place is small and cozy. You feel like you’ve been transported back to Spain. The place is decorated very tasteful with Spanish sayings on one wall, paella pans on another, torero posters and even a bull’s head. It was lovely. There are lunch specials for $ 15 and $ 20, which include 1st plate, 2nd plate and dessert. The food was delicious. I can’t wait to go back and take my mom(who will absolutely love it).

We came here as a group and shared every dish. The service wasn’t the best at all. The waiters don’t really know what the dishes are comprised of and they were out of almost every single beer I wanted to order(I got my 5th choice) I was ready to give this place a 2 or 3 until the food came out. Everything is very authentic and extremely delicious. The steak came out on a searing hot plate and was rare on the inside. We enjoyed cooking it on the plate to our liking. Lively atmosphere, good food, I would come back.

We made reservations and when we got there there was no available tables. So we waited about 10 minutes the waiter was nice enough to give us two beers while we waited, on the house. So we didn’t mind. When we were finally seated we had a great table in the back. Place reminded me instantly of my trip to Spain. It was very lively. We were treated by the chef and he was very friendly and happy. We had the octopus and fried garbanzos for appetizer. Octopus was soft and delicious. The garbanzos were very flavorful. My husband and I shared the paella de mariscos and it was in our table in 20 mins from the time we placed the order which was great. It was delicious and made to perfection. For desert we had the crema Catalana and that was delicious too. We will be going back soon!

The food and service here are amazing! Very friendly staff in a beautifully decorated environment. Very easy access by car or Über. We had several tapas including garbanzos, Serrano jam, Manchego cheese, and an amazing 26 oz. steak served on very hot plates. I highly recommend this place to hang out with family, close the deal or just have great fun with friends. I’ll be back!

I came back after some time and the restaurant continues to be as excellent as the first time we came. These time I came with my two children who didn’t believe me that this restaurant is even better than our favorite in Madrid. After the incredible dinner we had they don’t only agreed with me, but committed to come back by their own. Chef Felipe still comes to he tables to make sure everything is OK and to greet you. The best of the best!!!

Summary: Service and vegetarian food options were both hit-or-miss. I’d give it a 2.5 if I could. The restaurant is located in a quiet part of town, and offers free valet parking. The staff was friendly in greeting us, and later during our meal the head chef(Felipe?) came out and greeted us, which was a nice touch. In terms of the food options, our opinions were mixed. The largest dish we ordered was the vegetable paella. I understand that paella is supposed to be delicately spiced, but even so, we were disappointed by the lack of flavor. We’ve had better. In terms of the tapas and drinks, the mushrooms and the patatas bravas were excellent. The red wine sangria was on the sugary side, but not unenjoyable. A surprise standout was the simple basket of freshly baked bread. However even after asking multiple times over the course of our meal, we were unable to get a second basket. Our waiter offered a feeble explanation about the oven maybe being broken, even as we noticed other tables around us getting the bread they asked for. I don’t enjoy faulting a restaurant for something that simple, but not having bread got in the way of us enjoying our manchego plate. Long story short, this would not be our pick out of the tapas places we’ve tried in the Miami area. Perhaps they excel more in their meat options, which to be fair we did not try.

Came here for dinner on a weekend. We discovered this place through my Primecard diner’s club card mailing. There were plenty of customers but thankfully we didn’t have to wait… They sat us down immediately. We started off with a half pitcher red sangria and it was delicious! We asked the waiter plenty of questions about the menu and he was extremely helpful and gave us wonderful suggestions. We ordered the Manchego and Jamon appetizer. It was very fresh and tasty. For dinner we shared the Paella Valenciana. It had seafood, chicken, and pork. The flavors were good… We just added some lemon. It was large enough for us to share and even take some home! I was looking at other dishes and want to come back to try some more appetizers… The Patatas Bravas and Croquetas looked really good!

I have only been there for lunch, so I have only had their lunch special. I love the campy traditional Spanish décor. There is a limited menu for lunch but it includes an appetizer, entrée and dessert. The choices consisted of authentic Spanish cuisine. The first was Juevos en Cazuela con Espinaca. The eggs were light and lightly seasoned. The spinach and cream cheese made the dish smooth and delicious. The Segundo was half Maine lobster with yellow rice. The portions were huge and delicious. I don’t believe this is available on the menu any more, as there were a couple complaints about the freshness of the lobster. When I had it though, it was delicious. For dessert, I had the Torta de Tres Leches. There were so many layers of flavor and texture to describe. It was absolutely fantastic.

My parents and I were craving Spanish food so I checked on Unilocal to see what were some good Spanish restaurants in the Miami area. Jamon Iberico popped up so we decided to try it out. This restaurant is located in the lobby of the Neo Lofts condominium, which is part of the continuing redevelopment and gentrification of the neighborhood by the Miami River just west of I-95. Once we arrived, we gave our car to the valet, which as it turns out is free if you are eating at the restaurant. When we walked in, we were surprised and a little concerned that we were the only patrons eating at the time, and questions started swirling in my head wondering what we had stepped out. We were immediately seated and were promptly served bread and water. As this is a Spanish restaurant, we obviously had to start with the sangria. The sangria came out and while it was refreshing, it was missing a bit more of the wine, which my mom and I both noticed. My stepdad ordered the tapas of serrano ham and manchego cheese, which we all shared. We were all surprised as to how much came out; it was enough for the three of us to get two servings of it. I then ordered the Pulpo a la Gallega, which is a dish from Galicia, Spain whereby octopus is boiled and then it is trimmed with scissors and drizzled with olive oil and served with boiled potatoes. This was the best pulpo a la gallega I’ve ever had and I’ve been to many tapas restaurants. Other places I’ve been to don’t boil the octopus the proper way, which is the key to everything; when not boiled correctly the octopus, when chewed on, becomes very rubbert. Not here; here they boiled it the perfect way, which left it very tender and not rubbery. I recommend this dish to anyone. I followed up with the main dish; the cochinillo a la asada, which is one of the traditional dishes of Spain(the suckling pig). They have different servings of this dish(slices, ¼, ½ and a whole suckling pig). This dish has been on my to-try list and I finally got to experience it and I was not disappointed. The chunks of the cochinillo were so tender that the meat would fall off and the skin marinated with the juices was oh so wonderful and had the perfect crunch. My parents had the seafood paella, and while the paella had the right type of burn on the rice as it is the traditional way, it was lacking in seafood which we all noticed and kind of were disappointed in. Other than the paella, the food was exquisite. The service was top-notch, from the moment we walked in. Even the owner, Chef Felipe, came by our table and chatted with us and making sure we were all satisfied; it is this kind of personal touch that separates these small restaurants from the big chain restaurants. The waiter, upon seeing i had some cochinillo left over, offered to pack it up for me and even included some fresh paella with it, which he did not have to do for me. To top off the service, as I was leaving and ready to get into the car, the waiter rushed out with my take home bag which I had totally forgotten to take with me. Overall, this is a must-try restaurant, which I recommend to everyone.
