The chicken is dry the yams are sum weird alien orange color and the collad greens come to life at night lol I was gonna stop by to let them know I had a big in my food but saw a demolition truck bull dozing the place down. So I guess I wasn’t the only one that thought this place should be demolished. Bye bye Esther.

Delicious. We’re from Philly where good soulfood is non-existent. We were pleastly surprised at the amount of food and the price. Haven’t seen a full platter of food for under 10 $ in years. And to top it all off it tasted fantastic

This place was just shut down due to 20+ violations with a roach infestation as one of them.

Terrible, just like stuff for prisoners. No other taste except salty, cabbage and chicken were soaked in water for long time and tasted aweful. Large quantity but we threw most of it.

I had the fried grouper with mac and cheese and congri(red beans and rice). Congri was a little dry, you know how the rice will harden after it’s been sitting under a heat lamp for too long– massive serving of it Mac and cheese was pretty good – extra cheeze saucy – not cheese, cheeze, know what I’m sayin’? Slab of grouper was fresh fried, super hot, very thin batter was good, grease tasted fresh All that for like $ 8.59 FORGETALLTHAT! I’m bothering to Unilocal because of the carrot cake… moist, spongy layers with a light icing– very very nice. Had to stop everything, literally put my fork down, to Unilocal about the carrot cake. I would go back, but I would be very choosy with my sides… they serve liver and onions and I wonder if anyone has tried that.

Dis food is the form of imitation soul food ever known to mankind. If your looking for a lot for cheap then this the place to go. Now if u have heart set on some good olé down home soul food. Well my friend you will be sadly disappointed. I can’t believe they’re able to even try to pass this off as authentic. It blows my mind

interesting mix of southern comfort food and Cuban food. Stopped here completely randomly to grab a quick bite on way back from Miami, had some bbq chicken, cabbage, mashed potatoes. Chicken fell off the bone, cabbage was good. I’d skip the instant mashed potatoes and go for another starch, though. Not bad!

I typed in Macaroni and Cheese on Unilocal and it led me here. It looks kind of like Sonics, which is kinda cool. Anyway, got there and ordered the BBQ chicken with mac and cheese and cornbread. All of it was delicious. This place is officially my lunch stop after class on Thursdays.

I am giving Esther’s four stars because they didn’t have chicken fingers yesterday. Their chicken fingers are one of my favorites. So, I ended up with the grilled chicken which was delicious and well I guess the healthier option. But the main reason I go to Esther’s is because of the MACANDCHEESE!!! Growing up I hated Mac and cheese and about 10 years ago I tried the Mac and cheese from Esther’s and it was love at first taste. I ordered to go, grilled chicken, Mac and cheese, mashed potato, and cornbread.(Couldn’t even finish half because it was so much food. I have enough for lunch today and maybe dinner) For my dad I ordered palomilla steak, white rice with black beans, and candy yams. I had never tried the candy yams until yesterday and I can’t believe I have been missing out. Luckily my dad left me some to eat today. For my mom I ordered the fried conch, corn bread, and Mac and cheese. You can say she loved it because she didn’t leave any leftovers and didn’t even leave me some conch to try. All this food was $ 26.00! Super cheap for 3 quick meals. I am definitely looking forward to my leftovers!!!

This hole in the wall looks like an old Sonic, and it’s not as spacious as some of their other locations, but the food was still good. The feisty guy at the counter turned down my ‘free red velvet cake’ coupon, saying that they only take that at their location on NW27th, but he redeemed himself by piling on some extra curry chicken into my styrofoam take-out box. At first, I just got leftover bits, but then the new batch came, and he hooked me up! What I tried: collard greens– yum(not too oily or salty– after I refrigerated the leftovers, they weren’t caked in grease) — it’s $.79 extra for collards cabbage– good, but would be better if they didn’t throw in frozen corn, carrots and peas– no extra charge curry chicken– tender, just the right flavor, not too salty grilled pork chops– generous portions, good, could be more tender, but they are pork chops, after all yams– tasty, but that bright orange glaze is screaming ‘food coloring #E110!’ haha! mac and cheese– decent, not bad, but I’ve had better The prices were right– the curry chicken was on special for $ 5.49 plus the upcharge for collards. I like that you can get vegetables and not just starches for sides, and there’s a lot of variety. Now, if they’d take my red velvet cake coupon, all would be well in the world!

It used to be good when I first tasted around 2004. But then it got worst around 2008ish. Food tasted like high school cafeteria, preprepped from some government cooking center some where out there. My basic rules: 1) always order the SAME dish in every new place I try. e.g.: Smothered pork chop or BBQ ribs, greens, corn bread, and ice tea. 2) I do give 2nd chance: steak or meat loaf, cabbages, cake, mac and cheese. Now no longer eat here and hunting for other possibilities in D.C. Atlanta, New York.

Being a girl from Puerto Rico that loves having rice and beans and is afraid of going into areas that i dont know, i would have never gone to esthers by myself. my co-worker told me about this place and because i love food(and because i was going with her) i said sure, lets go! if you judge a book by its cover you would never go into this place. It looks really dirty and honestly looks like its abandoned from outside. But honestly at this location you dont even have to go inside… they have DRIVE_THRU!!! I went inside because we wanted to eat there, they only have tables outside(like checkers). I got the wings and mac&cheese. the wings are perfectly seasoned and taste extremly good. and the mac&cheese, well its a soul food place, you know the mac&cheese was good. they also serve a lot so if your not a fat ass like me you will have a little left over for dinner. enjoy & dont judge a book by its cover!

I’ve had better soul or southern food. Been here 4 times and honestly the only reason I go back is because the food is cheap and taste half way decent. People could have better attitudes also. It will do if you need a cheap eat but I’m not overly impressed with this place.

Itis-ville, USA. I always get the itis after eating at Esthers. Bbq ribs, mash and macaroni — clutch! But then the inevitable happens… ZzzzZZZzzz…puts you right to bed. Wake up about 10 lbs heavier! Best spot to go to if you’re starving and want to be put in a coma.

The only reason they didn’t get 5 stars is because I’ve never been able to get out of here in less than 10 minutes. NEVER. buuuuuut that just says how good the food is! Esther’s is the best fast food SOULFOOD! Chicken wings, breast, thighs and legs. Pork chops, steak, fried catfish, meatloaf and OXTAILS! Ooooo wee lawd! OXTAILS Words like succulent, flavorful and tender come to mind. when normally I use those words for myself! Oh and then the sides! Congri, white rice, yellow rice and vegetables, corn, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, salad, mashed potatoes with gravy and candied yams! Now that’s PROBABLY not everything but I covered most. The food is reasonably priced and they give you a WHOLELOT! I normally get the Baked BBQ Chicken with Macaroni and Cheese and Congri rice with oxtail gravy and candied yam juice on the rice! All of that for $ 5.34! yum DISCLAIMER: Unless you’re an active person or you are a participant(not just a member) of a gym, be prepared to spend more money… on clothes… Esther’s will get you fatter than ice cold bacon grease!

I’m not even going to lie — used to go here all the time when I was teaching high school nearby. It was quick enough where I could shoot down during a lunch break and grab something to eat(that did NOT come from the school cafeteria.) I’ll admit I fell into the«trap» of always getting the same thing — fried chicken wings(and the sides would usually be corn, red beans and rice, mac and cheese, or collard greens.) It was heaven on earth. I couldn’t make it too big of a habit — as I’d be 800lbs by now. I’ve since moved on from Miami — but still have cravings for that fried chicken — complete with the occasional surly service — and bumpin lunch crowd. Esther’s made quite the impression on this white girl from NJ. I will forever have fond memories of this place.
