So its been happening a while, but by developing this park they are going to scar and destroy what was one of the last marginally unblemished gems of coastal mangrove swamp in MDC and open it up to the masses for further destruction. I say marginally because the lake wasn’t there originally, but the lake might have actually improved the area for fish(or destroyed mangrove habitat needlessly depending on how you look at it). Originally one could fish, kayak, explore, go to the tree house, and generally be undisturbed from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding area specifically due the to the«un-improved» conditions the area was in(Dirt Road, Weird Hours, no Bathroom, ect). With these«improvements» they will add pressure to the surrounding area. I’m sure most people will like the change. In any case they’re restricting shore fishing while only opening it up in undesirable locations. Way to go MDC! Thank god they’re not taking away the Kayak fishing. I referred a friend only to find that the location I recommended dint’ allow shore fishing anymore. Anyway, Ive rarely seen human development positively impact the environment and this place will be no exception. Maybe I’m just getting old. Check out the master plan below.

I absolutely love this place but am docking a star after yesterday’s visit… People are starting to figure out this place has fabulous muddy trails and that awfully delicious stinky ocean funk breeze that sweeps through the mangroves. Seems like we can only have something nice until the stay-at-home moms invade with their spawn along with juice boxes, go-gurts and their little trinkets to litter what’s left of untouched nature Hopefully all the newcomers won’t bleed what’s left of it’s charm by throwing their garbage all over the place and dumping god knows what into the water. My pup loves splashing around the trail and investigating the crab holes. This is the kind of place you go to tune out and get a little dirty with headphones on.

This is the best kayak launch in Miami-Dade, hands down. Beautiful new facility with floating dock that makes getting into your canoe or kayak a breeze. I highly recommend this spot for boaters with small kids or seniors. This is a great spot to paddle on a windy day, since you can explore the mangroves and watch the birds to your heart’s content. It’s also easy to get out on the open water of the bay, if the weather is cooperating. No rentals available, so bring your own boat.

I’ve been coming to Chapman Field Park for at least 15 years to play, fish, explore, and kayak. For years, there has been rumors of a project to build a «no-motor marina» here and they’ve finally done it. It’s for the canoe and kayak crowd only so if you’re a jet-ski dude, find another spot. There is parking right next to the boat ramp. From the ramp, you can paddle west towards one lake or east towards another which then leads to a winding trail through the mangroves then Biscayne Bay.
