This is, by far, the best Indian food in Miami. No matter what time you visit, the place is always packed. I recommend making a reservation if you’re going to visit on a busy Friday or Saturday night. I love that Bombay Darbar moved into a larger location that could service more customers. When Bombay was at its old location, it was nearly impossible to eat there unless you had a reservation. The restaurant moved, but the quality hasn’t changed. The food and service are still impeccable. My favorite things to eat here at the samosas, garlic naan, and the chicken tikka masala. The samosas are some of the best I’ve ever had. No trip to Bombay Darbar is complete without an order of the samosas. The garlic naan is excellent and a wonderful side for a main dish. For my main meal, I always get the chicken tikka masala. The creamy tomato sauce that the dish is served in is amazing. It’s nice, rich, and hits all the right spots. I love Bombay Darbar and make it a point to visit again and again.

This was our first time here. Came with my husband as a date. Had heard many great things about this restaurant and now can truly say they are all true! We had the chicken curry with mango sauce and cashews. This was so good… With the rice and even to dip the naan bread, which is delicious! We also had the shrimp with onions, green peppers, and lots of yummy spicy. We also had a vegetable platter, it was cauliflower with potatoes. We had too some kind of Indian empanadas. I am so sorry I do not know the names of the dishes… I can just tell you that everything we had was super yummy!

I have to give a 5 star, no doubt about it. The new location is fancy and confortable at the same time. The food I already knew, it’s superb, I really love how the seasoning is balanced, everything is delicious, from the naan(bread) to the main dishes. Please go see yourself, it is so worth and not very expensive either!

I have been thinking about this place for so long and it did not disappoint. The service is stellar beginning with the front of house. You are greeted by warm and gentle smiles. My sever was always present but not to the point of being obnoxious. It did not take long to be seated despite a full house. The food was delicious. I had the lamb chop masala which was so yummy. My heart however belongs to their kheer This is the best dessert I have ever had. All the spices came together so lovely. Just divine! Beautiful location, beautiful décor, beautiful staff and delicious food.

5 stars, no debate here. I had heard of this place so many times and I loooove Indian food and had been wanting to come try it. Finally, my husband and I came to dinner here and we were NOT disappointed. Parking is easy enough — it’s right across from the Mayfair and Cocowalk, so there’s street parking and a parking garage in the same building. There’s some outdoor seating, but we opted to sit indoors so that we could see the décor. This place is huge! I was not expecting that. and what’s even more crazy is how packed it is! We were seated in the first room, at 2-top on the back wall. I couldn’t stop looking at the ceiling, which was really nicely done. The lights in here are fun, too. The service was impeccable… we were immediately welcomed and seated, given water immediately, brought the crackers and salsa things immediately(like Indian version of chips and salsa? — soo good). Seriously whatever that green salsa stuff was was fantastic. Our waiter explained the menu to us and made recommendations based on what we were in the mood for. I was apparently very thirsty that evening because I went through about 5 glasses of water(seriously. Normally I’d have one or two max), and it was never longer than a minute with an empty glass — they were crazy-quick on refills. Food came quick also — they had us in and out in 45 minutes… I’ll be back! Appetizer — Samosas! When I read the description I wasn’t so sure about this. potatoes and peas filling sounded like something I was forced to eat as a child, but the server recommended it, and we figured we should go for whatever he said, and boy he did not disappoint! The flavors and the crunchy outside, and OMG the sauce was divine. finger-lickin’ good sauce! My meal — Chicken Tikka Masala. Yes, I’ve had this before at other places, but my heart had been calling for tikka masala so I gave it what it wanted. for 2 days, thanks to leftovers! Yum! Who doesn’t love this dish? The sauce is just divine, and the chicken was succulent. Mmmmm… I want more now. I love the little metal pots they serve it in, too. My husband’s meal — the Tandoori Lamb Chops. These were really good as well. They do not come with a side at all. For me, it would have been a large portion, but for my husband, he was wishing it came with a side of potatoes or rice or something to go with it. Our side — Garlic Naan of course! You can’t go wrong with Naan, and I looove garlic, so this ones perfect, and waiter-recommended. Definitely come here. It won’t disappoint! I’ll be back over and over.

Bombay Darbar is located on a side street in Coconut Grove. Street parking is hard to come by, so just go straight for garage parking. We made reservations ahead of time — and we highly advise that you do! They take a few moments to seat you even with reservations and there were people waiting for a long time outside(we came for dinner). The inside is spacious and modern… But so loud because it’s so full. We had a difficult time talking to each other on our date night. The server seemed overly stressed and we had to really work to get his attention. My wife had the spiked mango lassi and she loved it. We ordered quite a few dishes to get a great sense of their food. The Tandoori Chicken was very flavorful and tender. We had a curry fish, which was delicious but secretly breaded. The Palak(?) Paneer(spinach and cheese) was not the best and we wouldn’t get it again. The vegetable biryani rice was really good and filling. We’ll probably come back again to satisfy our Indian food cravings.

Best Indian food in Miami hands down. We always get the vegetable samosa and tandoori chicken wings. I like the chicken mushroom and masala shrimp the best, but I’ve tried almost every dish and I loved everyone of them. Always a great meal here and I’m glad they upgraded to a bigger space.

This is a busy, busy restaurant! We called in a reservation, but when we got there, they couldn’t find us on the list… they asked us to wait until a table opened up. We were bummed, afraid it might take a while – but after only 5 minutes, we were seated! Excellent customer service! Our waiter, Marvin, was a very personable Cuban who was very attentive throughout our meal. We ordered within 5 minutes of being seated, and had appetizers very quickly, especially impressive given the fullness of the place! The garlic naan and plain naan were both delicious! The shrimp tandoori was excellent – spicy and flavorful, but plump and juicy since it’s made in the clay oven. The chicken tikka masala was flavorful, but not spicy at all even though we ordered it medium to medium spicy. Next time we would order it spicy. The atmosphere was very upbeat and entertaining, with music videos from Bollywood Heights playing loudly on tv’s behind the bar. Would definitely eat here again!

AHMAZINGGGGGGGG, if you’re EVER in the miami/ft. lauderdale area, make your hike out here and give this place a go! Everything was perfection. Atmosphere: They moved from another location and the new one is spacious, airy, colorful, and fancy! They have really nice seating and spaces between the tables is just right– not stuck to one another, enough space to slip out without brushing your bum against your neighbors(hehe). Food: SOSOGOOD. Everything was perfect. the chicken tandoori wings for the appetizer were perfectly moist and seasoned to perfection– not too overpowering, it complemented the chicken perfectly. The shrimp was in a coconut based sauce and was a bit risky for me personally but it was perfect. We asked for spicy and I didnt really know howd they manage to make a coconut base spicy since most indian coconut based dishes are sweet, but they did it! Perfectly too, it was my favorite dish. The chicken curry was also perfect, sweet and spicy at the same time — once again, no clue how they managed it but it was great. The garlic naan was never burnt and never undercooked, just right. Service: 10⁄10. Everyone was very attentive and constantly checked up on us to make sure our drinks were full and we didn’t need anymore naan or rice. Price: Worth every penny. Will I be back? Whenever I’m in miami, I’m definitely making a trip to Coconut Grove for some Darbar YUMMINESS.

Holy shit. Excuse my language but that’s how serious this place is. I’m pretty late to the party because BD has been around for some time. They now have a new huge space in the Grove and there is rarely an empty seat. First of all I tried naan for the first time about a few weeks before coming to BD but now I’m alllll about that life. So I suggest you try some yourself. We had the garlic naan and of course it was tastetubular. Along with that delicious bread, we had the mango curry chicken and channa masala which had soooo much flavor. Looking forward to going back and making my way through the huge menu.

Meh. It’s one of few Indian places around, so I guess that’s why people tolerate it. I’ve eaten here several times, and every dish I have tried has consisted of one piece of meat in a sea of potatoes, served with entirely too much rice. To be honest, the food at Bombay Darbar is on par with the $ 3 and $ 4 frozen Indian entrees from Trader Joe’s(which are decent, but certainly not phenomenal). I don’t have another Indian suggestion in the Grove, but if it’s curry you’re after, try Asian Thai Kitchen!

My husband and I recently went to their new location for our anniversary. When I saw how large the restaurant was compared to the older location I was very skeptical about the service and quality of the food. The experience was great from start to finish, from the time we walked in the hostess gave is a great location in the back, nice and cozy and private. In addition, she gave is a seat with a fantastic, very confident waiter who gave us great recommendations as we wanted to try something different from our norm. Everything was perfect from start to finish. My recommendation is to get there as they open, because by the time we were leaving it was packed.

I came here for lunch on a Thursday and we were seated promptly. The GM first greeted us and then our server came with water. The menu is diverse, having just moved back to Miami from NYC where I feel like the same 10 items are on every menu, this place had some unique dishes I have never heard of. The mango curry chicken was amazing and slightly spicy(even for the mild version) which was perfect it was not just watered down with yogurt. The Saag Paneer was different looking, but so tasty. The flavor is more on the spicy(spices) side not hot at all. We also had some vegetable Samosas which were enormous ! I have never seen Samosas so big. Definitely try them. I hope to come back here for dinner! Great prices, large portions and quiet.

Love love love this Indian food! Since the first day I’ve ever tried it, I’ve always stuck with the chicken tikka masala and is always up to my liking(: luckily they moved to a much larger place and is gorgeous! Very comfy, especially the booth area. Pillows and everything ! Unfortunately, when they moved to the bigger place, the service went down. Their service was always spot on before and now I think that it has just been off lately. I feel like my server is always in a rush. It happens. But I would still definitely recommend eating here.(Making a reservation would be best)

I love Indian food. I love Coconut Grove. I love Bombay Darbar! I’m an Indian food enthusiast, I grew up eating it and with the exception of extremely spicy items, I love it all. My boyfriend is new at Indian food but has had nothing but great experiences tasting it all at Bombay Darbar. Some of my personal favorites include the tandoori chicken, saag paneer, vegetable samosas and the korma(both the chicken and shahi veg are great!) The portions are large and rich, even on my hungriest days I still have leftovers to eat for lunch the next day! This location is probably three times the size of its previous spot across the Grove but it’s still very busy! I highly recommend making a reservation– and even if you do, be aware you may not be seated right away.

This wasn’t what I was expecting it to be. Let me elaborate a little as a leading statement like that could mean so many things. This is one of the largest Indian restaurants I think I’ve ever been eaten at and it was packed. It felt a little too crowded and almost like they were trying to feed as many people at a time and get you out the door for the next rush. The service was okay for such a busy restaurant, when you have that many tables you expect that some things will slip through the cracks. The food was good, nothing to rave about, but also not bad. I probably wouldn’t return, but I wouldn’t deter locals from trying it, it is a good spot if you are a local.

Great new location. Hip vibe and music. Try the Chicken Tikki Masala in Medium sauce, it a bit spicy but very bold and flavorful, I tried the mild and it’s just not the same, take the risk and get the medium or even hot if you dare… Finally order a Mango Lassi, it pairs well with all the food and lightens it all up.

One of my favorite places in Miami. Great food and service. The new location is great. I used to not recommend this place so often because of the small old location. This new location is usually full, which is just a testament to the good food. Now I recommend, I bring larger parties, and come more often — now that I know I can get a seat within a few minutes. Bravo Bombay Darbar. Keep working hard to keep us happy!!!

I am not usually a fan of Indian food, but I really enjoyed this place. The chicken tikka masala was a little bit sweet and the chicken nice and tender. I much rather preferred the curry dish over the chicken tandori. The tandori was very spiced and a bit much for me. The garlic naan was great to dip in the masala sauce. We arrived right when they opened at 6pm on Saturday after walking over from a movie and it was perfect timing. There was a line of people outside so you probably want to make a reservation(we set one up earlier that day). The waiter encouraged us to order quickly so our food would come out faster. We were out within an hour. Service was great; water was always filled and everyone was polite. Reasonably priced meal. I look forward to going back to try the mango chicken curry. Parking: street or lot EDIT: Came back and ordered the mango chicken curry(mild spice). I am a weakling when it comes to spicy things and mild was not spicy at all. The medium spicy for the chicken tiki masala was not spicy at all either. I feel like they got the spicing better last time. So for future reference, I would order at least a spice level higher for the curry.

I love Indian food! When I relocated here it was the first cuisine I researched. Everyone I talked to said Coconut Grove had the best but you have to make a reservation. The first time I went here was New Years Eve. We had naan, chicken josh, biryani. Some of the best I have had! Going back tomorrow night. Best reservation I could get is 6:30. It’s worth going a bit earlier then usual. I can’t wait!

If you are in the mood for Indian don’t go there. The food is poorly seasoned. The spices taste raw. The heat level is misguided. The medium was not spicy at all. The protein is cooked well. That’s what the two stars are for. Pretty space with little substance.

Outdoor seating at the terrace under the ceiling fans, evoking«The Jewel in the Crown» times. On a balmy tropical night Mango lassi was nectar. Mango juice too. I mixed the lassi with a splah of sparkling water. Nicer! We ordered a sampling of dishes: for starters Vegetables somosas(seasoned potatoes and green peas); Papadam(lentil wafers with chutney); Peshawari Naam(bread stuffed with mixed nuts and raisins) quite delicious. Our main dishes both Chicken. The traditional Chicken Tandori and Chicken Tikka Masala(in a creamy tomato sauce, onions & bell pepper). Basmati rice. I love the Chicken Tandori. It had the right charred areas, well cooked and perfect to share. Service was attentive and prompt. Relaxing atmosphere for a delightful dinner.

The masters of spice. Period. No other Indian restaurant can create what Bombay Darbar delivers from the kitchen. I have a long time relationship with Indian food, from the days when I was vegetarian and my vegetarian group introduced me to Indian food. Being raised in Peru, spicy is part of my gastronomic vernacular, so «no problem sir!». Bombay Darbar uses ingredients that I have hardly seen at other Indian restaurants. This place serves gourmet Indian food. Plain and simple does not apply. Everything has a depth in flavor that is unparalleled with other cuisines and restaurants in this area. I firmly believe that if you want to know anything about food, you must stop by Bombay Darbar and experience the explosion of flavors. To have an eye opening experience, all you have to do is come here and order a biryani with any meat you like(or vegetarian). This dish is plenty for two people, or take out. The biryani brings everything but the kitchen sink, it even includes tamarind and anise seeds. It is an outstanding dish with many flavors. Simple yet flavorful. All the other dishes are outstanding as well. As always, in my case, korma sauces, lamb and vindaloo sauces. Can’t go wrong with those. Also, the tandoor oven spits out amazing offerings. You seriously won’t mess this one up. The soups here are also delicious. As a warning, if you ask for spicy, this means really spicy. I eat spicy food, and when I have ordered spicy here, I have been blown away. And I am not talking top spicy, just regular spicy. If you like hot food, make sure you order medium, even mild just to be on the safe side. There is spicy sauce if you want to spice up your food, anyway. Not much that I can add, but just that if you are into gastronomy, this should be one of your stops.

I honestly can’t believe I haven’t written a review for Bombay Darbar — this location or the old one — before. First thing to address, the move — as many have mentioned, this new location is HUGE compared to the old one. I did love the cute, comfy, intimate atmosphere of the old location but this spacious one has two benefits — you aren’t essentially sharing your meal/conversation with the strangers in the table 2 inches away from yours, and they can accommodate many more customers! The only thing I don’t like about their move is that they aren’t a 5 second walk from Bianco Gelato, my favorite gelato place in the Grove. Now, the food — I haven’t tried any other upscale north Indian restaurants in the area because I have had no reason to. This place has the full range of creamy, rich, hearty north Indian food that you would look for in a restaurant of this sort(as compared to a cheaper street-food type café that has its own charms and a different style of food). My favorites are the paneer makhani, tandoori chicken, and malai kofta. The tandoori chicken is moist, flavorful, and perfect with lemon/onion/bell peppers. The service is as pretty good, the wait times are down, and the food satisfies my cravings almost every time. Definitely give this restaurant a try if you’re looking for Indian food in the Grove/Gables area!

So I have to admit when I came to this place, being the only Indian joint really in town and knowing how places don’t last in Miami I was really looking forward to trying this. Located in quaint coconut grove at the coco walk, it’s a pretty cute place with poppin Hindi music and lights and is packed! We made reservations at 6 and pushed it to 7. We decided to sit outside. They first served papad– crispy and traditional with onion chutney and coriander very good ax well. Served with Serrano pepper which is rather mild for our Indian palette/slightly disappointed they didn’t have the Indian chili is(mirchis) we ordered the tandoori wings. We love wings! By the way we had both fasted today so could eat tires and it might taste good wings were extremely small generic and tasted like tandoori powder bought in a store. After that disappointment I called the waiter over and said make sure the entrée are spicy! Garlic and paneer naan– disappointing. Neither had enough garlic or paneer(cheese) and weren’t decadent. Usually we can eat ¼ a naan and pass out– each of us able to have one whole naan. Malai kofta– 4 tiny somewhat moist tender vege balls, with cashew nut sauce not spicy and just okay. Chicken makhani– this was disappointing. It had the same malai kofta base, makhani should have a butter and tomato purée no cashew nut. Saag paneer– decent dish, paneer moist and saag pretty good. Basmati rice– ok. Nothing spectacular . So all in all im disappointed because I wanted this to be our spot. But now I feel more inspired to cook myself given the just okay meal, and I would come back because I don’t have an option here in south Florida. I seriously encourage Indian people to come down that this market needs competition! FYI my family and I are originally from Bombay(Mumbai) and this doesn’t taste authentic. We have spicy salty food, not sweet. Very underwhelming.

Five stars because I find myself craving Bombay Darbar ALL. THE. TIME. I’ve written two reviews of their old location so I’ll keep this short and sweet. Even though the space is a LOT bigger, you still need reservations. We were lucky enough to score one the day of on a Saturday night but by the sound of the girl’s voice on the phone, we were cutting it close. Unlike the old spot, this one has a full bar lining one wall that you can sit at, along with plenty of tables. The staff has grown and many are still learning the ways. I’m sure it’ll be smooth in no time. Go to dishes include the samosas, garlic naan, palak paneer, chicken tikka masala and chana masala, but on our last visit, we switched it up with the lamb masala. I think we asked for mild but they were on FIRE. Word to the wise. We(almost) always have leftovers and that’s always the highlight of my next day. While the bustling and intimate feel of the old restaurant might be missed, I’m happy to see this local biz thriving in the Grove!

I can see why this place is always packed. Their food is flavorful, reasonably priced and the service friendly. The complimentary lentil crackers are a nice touch, especially since they’re gluten-free. The dips were too sweet, which was a recurring theme throughout our meal. Too much sugar, not enough salt. I also found the dishes too sauce heavy. Maybe that’s authentic and as it should be, but it’s just not my cup o’tea. I couldn’t decide whether I was eating a stew or a thick soup. My veggie dumplings were delicious but completely smothered in this creamy sauce. I could hardly taste the dumplings. Even the rice pudding was more of a milky soup with rice in it. Nice flavor but way too liquid. And a kiddie portion. No brown rice. Brown basmati rice is so much nuttier and more fragrant than white basmati and should be an option, if not the norm. I would happily pay extra for it. The best dish we had were the chickpeas. Not smothered in sauce for a change. Overall, these are the type of dishes that are easy to make at home. Chickpea stew doesn’t take finesse, just patience. Or a pressure cooker. You may find these at an Indian home but it’s not fine dining nor is it creative. Just simple authentic food.

Make reservations! I went here last night and we were lucky to get a table. When we called they said they were fully booked from 6 to 10. The food is absolutely worth the wait if you do have to end up waiting for a table. We ordered the mango curry chicken, tandoori chicken, garlic naan, and paneer naan. We shared everything which is the best way to go if you want to try a variety of things. Everything was absolutely fantastic! The mango curry sauce was so delicious that I was even dipping my naan in it. They also served rice with the dishes and it was some of the best seasoned rice I have ever had! Also, the wine was very good! Our table ordered the Resiling. It was very good and well prices! Service is also incredible! This place is great for a night out and afterwards you can enjoy walking around Cocowalk.

There’s always someone, something or some place that stands far above the rest. For instance, Kim K. need not speak, she only needs to appear in public with those curves to mesmerize America and the world. She’s not only a colossus in media, but she’s defined a new standard of beauty & sex appeal in western civilization. Then you have Paris, the city of all cities, an embodiment of Neoclassic art & architecture, a terrestrial heaven of wine & fine dining. Like no other Paris has become the avatar of romance, eroticism and love. Then you have Bombay Darbar, the crown jewel of Indian cuisine in Miami. Unlike the majority of Indian restaurants locked into Hindu/Jain themes. Bombay Darbar has strayed off of the path of the expected, and created a dark ambiance of Zen Buddhism. True to its dimly lit Modernesque design, time stops and the evening consummates into a night of courtship and platonic discussion.
Being the Noble that I am, I decided to treat my friend Stephania who was relocating back to Ecuador to one last special dinner in Miami. Not that I’ve been to Bombay before, but I have seen the place as I’ve driven by a few times and the Unilocal star ratings are irresistible. Upon arriving we were informed it would be about a 20 minute wait, I really don’t like waiting so we decided to dine at the bar instead. I can’t remember the name of the bartender but this dude redefined the meaning of excellent bar service. I was generally overall impressed with the service at the restaurant, even the hostess with the English accent came back to check on us and inquire of our well being. But the bartender was on a whole different level of service, dude was well versed on the menu, and had some very interesting recommendations based upon what we were looking for. Ordered: Using two straws we shared a Mango lassi $ 3.45. It was sweet, thick and heavenly to the touch. The taste was so rich I wouldn’t be surprised if it was made from a recently picked ripe mango. I’m not sure what I enjoyed more the lassi or drinking it simultaneously with eyes locked with the attractive Ecuadorian. 5STARS This was the steal of the night… the Papadum(complimentary). This appetizer is absolutely delicious and its free! The bartender saw how much we enjoyed it and brought out another serving of it. 5STARS We also both ordered a glass of wine, I don’t remember what she ordered but I had the Cabernet Sauvignon 337 Napa $ 6.95. All I can say is Voilà, there’s nothing like drinking the ambrosia of the Gods. 5STARS The Tandoori chicken — $ 11.95(half) was the disappointment of the night. I found it to be rather dry and bland, void of the true palatial spices characteristic of Indian dishes. The bartender noticed my displeasure and offered to bring some special yogurt based sauce to go along with it. The sauce did help and made it much more palatable. 3STARS We also shared an order of Vegetable samosa’s — $ 4.95, they very aromatic and earthy, perfectly fried. The tamarind dip was delicious, it was a perfect marriage with the samosas we truly enjoyed this. 5STARS The Ecuadorian ordered mango chicken curry $.?. I’ve never had this dish before, but this might be one of the top 3 gravy based chicken dishes I’ve ever had. The spices and mango flavor perfectly complimented each other. The Ecuadorian left nothing behind, not even the gravy. 5STARS Service: Our water glasses were constantly filled and service was an all around pleasant experience. 5STARS Parking: There is indoor parking lots on both Rice st. & Virginia St., there is also metered parking along Virginia st. & Oak ave. Pluses: ++Nothing is cooked in Trans fat. ++I would definitely make a reservation as this place gets filled quickly. Believe it or not my bill for both of us came out to $ 51.00 for two, Plus I added a $ 10 tip. I was really expecting to spend around $ 100, I’m really surprised of the affordability of such a classy high end restaurant.
