109 Burger Joint

Food takes forever to come out and they don’t know how to make rare burgers and over cooks the well done. Wings aren’t good either. Too overpriced for subpar food. Went here 3 times to see if food would change, bad all 3 times. Update: just came for a 4^th time cuz it’s the only food joint close to 109tower. Asked the waiter 3 times in 30 minutes for Lemon for my water. Service still sucks. The big tenders and fries I ordered (to try something different) fries were cold, breading on chicken tenders were over seasoned and flavorless. Just spoke with the manager about this place. The only reason people come here is because its the only food joint in walking distance of all the FIU students that live in the nearby apartment buldings.

Let me start off by saying that in terms of their menu selection and food quality, I would rate this place a 3.5. The variety of burgers they have are creative and unique, which is cool! However, I honestly cannot think of a time that I have had a worse experience dining out at a restaurant before. We had a party of eight and arrived around 12:30. There were three other small groups dining at the time, but the restaurant was not packed by any means. I was sitting in a chair facing the kitchen and noticed that the chef (one of the chefs?) kept walking to the kitchen door window and peering out. I was a little confused by his reaction when he saw our large group because he did not seem happy. Typically, restaurant managers/​owners/​employees get happy when they are «busy» during a lunch shift, but he just looked annoyed. The one server did not come to our table for at least 20 minutes, and when he did, he took our drink and food order all at once. It took us another 20 minutes (not exaggerating) for us to get our drinks. So we are looking at 40 – 45 minutes before we had any water. Our food did not come out until after 1:30. One of my co-​workers had ordered a burger without a bun and she got an actual burger instead. The server did not seem to think that this was a big deal. Another one of my co-​workers did not have her food for at least 10 minutes after the rest of us were eating. I stopped our server to inquire about her plate (she was sharing with another co-​worker and I felt bad that they were both just sitting there watching us eat) at which point he shared that he had «forgotten to put her order in». He also added that due to the number of burgers we ordered, her order was at the very bottom so he missed it. He did not say anything beyond that or offer to try and rectify the situation. So I decided to blatantly ask if the burger would be free because of how long we had to wait etc. He said he would have to check. When he returned he said it would be just 10 more minutes and did not say anything about the burger being on the house. So I decided to ask him again and he said he thought it would be on the house…
I have a lot of experience serving at restaurants and I have never seen such terrible customer service in my life. I understand that their customers are probably mostly students (and perhaps students tend to hang out there and take their time), but we were clearly dressed professionally and I would think it would be obvious that we were on our lunch break. I don’t know if the chef/​server were stressed because they were short-​staffed or what, but you don’t treat customers like their time does not matter. At the very least, they should have tried to rectify the two orders they messed up and had better communication about the time it was taking for us to get both our DRINKS and our FOOD.
The burgers are pretty good, but nobody in my office is ever going back there. I do not recommend this place unless you have all the time in the world and don’t mind waiting an excessive amount of time for even water.

I’ve gone here twice already and each time I go I like it more and more. The burger with mushrooms and cheese it was excellent the fries a company you were very good. We also had the mac & cheese balls which were delicious according to my wife who is a mac & cheese aficionado. Ordered the pork slider we were somewhat of a letdown since it was average but I don’t blame the restaurant as their burger joint so why would you order the pork sliders. I was cajoled my my wife to order them. They weren’t bad, just the place is a burger place why not order a burger?
The vibe of the place is great especially since it benefits FIU buying encouraging a college atmosphere. Small place but very clean. Also you can’t go wrong with their beer selection and the pricing is moderate.
Lastly went on a Saturday afternoon and they were shorthanded since they only had one waitress. She was amazing, she was taking care of everyone, quite an efficient manner. She could’ve used some help but much to her credit she didn’t awesome job taking care of everyone.
All in all we had a nice meal enjoyed the place. I will definitely go back will go back.

It was a nice clean place! It seem like they don’t get busy that much… only one server but he was really attentive and nice. We got some salad it was ok, the hummus was ok and the pizza dip too… the burger I got was good nothing wow I was expecting more… they have a lot of burgers I wanted to try them all, but after tasting one I don’t know… the description make you expect more. Don’t get me wrong it was good but not his wow. The fried Queso nica things were really good. Too bad the wings were burn and that the salad came with pure vinagre instead of vinagreta

This plAce was to official! I can’t even begin to say how good that burger was. That signature 109 burger is really a beast in itself. I had to sit and look at it for a good 5 min before i had any idea where to start on it. After careful strategizing I took on that monster.
FULL of flavor that house guava sauce is out of control! This thing was loaded with beef, bacon, fried mac and cheese, fried cheese, onion rings and fries stacked high. I was really impressed and they have a poop load of more burgers to pick from. My friend was eating the Nica burger and that looked pretty damn good to.

As the 1pm hunger pounded, I decided to walk over with FIU crew. Half business, half Imagining services, we showed up wondering what this joint had in store for us. Luckily, we ordered some of the best burgers around. I had a BBQ Blues, although I should’ve been more aware of the «blues» part, which includes a blueberry cornbread — I just took it off. I ordered it with double patty to share with my girlfriend, and the combination of the bacon, patty, cameralized onions and everything else was truly a piece of heaven (a big one at that!). The fries are good and enough for one person.
As for the service, it was good. There was a new server taking care of at least 4 tables, he was a bit slow to take our order and bring us drinks, but it was adequate. The burgers came out pretty quickly to my surprise, and the check came in on time. One big thing to note is that their bathroom was really clean. Definitely coming back.

Best burgers ever !! If I wasn’t fluffy, I would be there at least once a week. I’ve tried the Nica burger, the Colombian and the all American. All three are delicious. The service is great too. HIghly recommend.

Very unsatisfied. Asked for water when we first got to the restaurant and we had to remind the girl a few times. They didn’t have enough cups to serve us our beer. Asked for medium well burger and they sent it out black. When I told the waitress she was rude and said if i wanted it medium instead. I explained I wanted medium well and the burger patty should not be black. Apple to the owner/​chef and apparently he doesn’t know what medium well is… If you want to pay $ 15 – 20 on a piece of burnt charcoal then you should come here. Also waitress had a problem giving us napkins and utensils

Food took way too long and it was only us and two other couples at the restaurant. The burger was nothing out of this world under seasoned and overcooked.

The burgers are amazing but definitely not a place to go if you’re in a rush. My sister and I got in at 2:30 we didn’t get our food till 3:05. The service was good! The ladies at the front who were our waitress were super friendly and engaging when I had a bit of trouble ordering. My sister had the Mex Burger and I had the Blue Moon. It was very tasty, only complaint about the burger was that I ordered it medium and it came out more medium done/​well done. The burgers are a little pricey compared to other burger joints, we ordered the two burgers and it came out to $ 27 with change.
Over all good! So will most likely be coming again!

Terrible service. Took 10 min to greet me and my husband. Table was dirty and he didn’t even bother trying to clean it. Food took so long that me and my husband ended up leaving. Then the server tried to stop us out the door and have us pay for the soda that we didn’t even drink.
Normally the wait isn’t that long and the food is awesome. But today Oct 24 was a terrible experience. Hopefully next time will be better.

Expect to be there for a while, but it’s worth the wait!
My boyfriend and I went to 109 around 1pm. There were only about 3 other tables with patrons and a couple of people sitting at the bar. However, we were there for almost an hour and half. I felt bad for the one server attending to the whole restaurant.
Once you get your food, I’m sure you’ll forget how long you’ve been waiting. The burgers are cooked to order, which justifies the wait time in my book, and they are decently priced.

Came to 109 for the first time during my lunch break with some coworkers. It was National Cheeseburger Day, so it was just starting to get packed, but it seemed like there was only one server. It took about 45 minutes for our burgers to come out.
I ordered the Mac Attack and the beef was cooked deliciously. The Mac lacked a bit of flavor, but I also do consider myself a Mac n Cheese connoisseur. The cheese flavor didn’t have too much depth to it, but the tater tots were cooked to perfection.
I would definitely come back here again, hopefully the service is a little faster then.

Are you looking for a cozy burger/​bar shack? This is the place to visit ! Located in front of FIU, this spot is perfect for the «hunger after class» strike .
Since I am on this «EATING HEALTHY DIET» I had to strategically pick the perfect burger for me. I had the Veggie Burger with sweet potato fries and gave it an A ! The burger is a big portion size as well as the fries .
They have a wide variety of beers but I did not see any vodka for my no calories diet .
My friend did mention the table is a bit small and I agree. For a party of 4, it can get cramped especially since the plates take a big portion of the table .
In either case, our waitress was attentive and I will definitely be back to try the Mac burger !

I am glad that Sweetwater has a location like this. It is very different than anything offered in this city. Most restaurants here are Nicaraguan and colombian/​Venezuelan restaurants (not that there is anything wrong with that, I am half Venezuelan myself), so it’s great to see variety here.
This place is located in a shopping plaza right across FIU. There isnt too much parking space though, but it seems to be enough since the restaurant is not so big anyway. Parking is on the street and on the side of the plaza. I can imagine students would just walk over here since there are dorms right across the street.
The place itself is small, it can probably fit about 35 people. There is one wall with a drawing of their signature burger, and another wall with nothing on it. I wish they had some sort of decorations or pictures on the wall to make this place look a bit more lively. They have 2 T. Vs, which were playing sports at the time.
I ordered the Mac addict, which is a burger with Mac and cheese in it and bacon. Sounds crazy??? Because it kind of is. It was very good. The mac and cheese was of course, the best part. I was pleasantly surprised. Eating the burger can be messy, but that’s how it supposed to be. The fries were delicious as well. They have a variety of beers on tap, and I was pleasantly surprised to see local beers.
I grew up in this neighborhood, and again, I am glad to see a place like this here. I had a great meal, so I will definetly be returning.

Only issue I had was the waiting time to get my burger. Other than that, I got everything I wanted from my experience eating there. Service was good, server was nice. The Nica Burger tasted great and so did the fries. Will be back to try other burgers.

We came on a Tuesday night and there was only 2 other people there. Our server was really nice. I wanted to order a draft beer but they were all warm. We ordered the duck wings and they ran out! 2 strikes. We ordered the mac burger and the double OO burger. Both burgers were very messy. The Mac and cheese burger was bland and the double OO burger was too sweet.
Someone walked in at 10:10 and the server said that they were closed when they close at 10:30. No Bueno.
Overall I would say that A & G burger is missed!

HOT STUFF! I have to say i was a little skeptical when i first walked in… there was no one to greet us or sit us, there was only another couple sitting in a corner. I thought i was going to have the biggest disappointment of my life, when I saw the college bar kind of place, the empty tables, the quiet ambiance, the shady area… But let me tell you… WOW, was i surprised! I ordered the Mac and Cheese Burger and my husband had the Blue Moon Burger… all i have to say is take a look at the pictures i took because they will talk by themselves!!! One word… DELICIOUS!!! (and by the way our waitress was nice and attentive, thumbs up!)

To start the servers are very pleasant. I order to share with my wife Signature 109 Burger with Duck Wings as a appetizer. My wife declare that this Burger is out of this World, I agree to that. I forget to mention that the appetizers came with the burger that is why I give minus 1 start.
Daughter in law order the Nica Burger, that is her favorite, (she have been here before). I’m glad that she advise us to go to this place to eat.
Now about this joint is small, but inviting. Parking is scarce, so good luck finding a place to park (patience). We arrive about 6 PM & where lucky to find space at the end of the small parking lot.
Now even that we share the appetizer & the Signature 109 Burger we where unable to finished & have to take it home.
