The rice is sweet. I don’t know if they are cooking it in sugar water, but the shit is sweet. I’m not complaining though… because I could eat the rice by itself. I just need to figure out why it taste sweet? The oxtail was pretty good. Really big portion too. I thought I would never say this but they gave me too much oxtail. Usually, I am sucking the bones because I didn’t have enough meat. But at Lorna’s, I was like«Anybody want some oxtail? You want a piece of this»? I had so much meat, I was passing my plate around sharing my oxtail… which was new for me. The mac and cheese was aiight. Nothing to write home about. Kinda dry. But it wasn’t bad either. I really wanted some collard greens but they only make them on the weekends. I tried my aunt’s food too… she got the fried conch with french fries. The conch was perfectly cooked… really tender. The fries were soggy and oily. No bueno. So in a nutshell, pretty good food overall, great portion sizes and great prices.

All these years that I have passed this place and I never thought to myself, «self, go in and try the food.» My cravings finally got the best of me. I wanted oxtails. Immediately. I wanted to try a new place so I went into my Unilocal app and searched«best oxtails». Many places showed up but this place was closer to my current location and after reading the reviews I was pretty much sold. Actually what drew me in was the tip that read«best oxtails in Miami». I’m thinking«Oh yeah… Challenge accepted!» In all of my years I’ve had some darn good/great oxtails so for these to be proclaimed the best in town was saying a lot. The place was packed. Since my first time going I’ve learned that it might be best to order over the phone and pick it up. My first time ordering I purchased the oxtails, rice and peas, and collard greens. Guys!(Le sigh). When I took the first bite of combination oxtail/rice and peas, my eyes involuntarily closed. I should have known that I would enjoy when they guy opened the to-go tray and the aroma hit me. It was at that point that I began to salivate. I was a goner then! I’ve been to many places throughout South Florida to have oxtails and I must say that this place definitely has a top spot. The oxtails are fall of the bone tender and there is so much flavor that it creates a party in your mouth. The rice and peas and collards greens were great complimants. For dessert, chocolate cake… The most moist, home-made, chocolaty, rich, buttery, chocolate cake that I have ever had. Since the first time, I’ve returned to Lorna’s on at least 5 – 6 other occasions to order the same meal; oxtails(extra gravy), rice and peas, collards or mac, and chocolate cake. There was one time that I tried the red velvet cake but I was disappointed. Did not meet my expectation. So, to whoever sparked my interest by stating that they served the«Best oxtails in Miami»… Thank you!

My food was amazing! The oxtails ate so meaty and this place never fails me! Other restaurants that sell oxtails need to take notes from!

I’ve been going to Lorna’s for over five years, and their food is consistently good. The service and prices are excellent, too.

I usually get the curry chicken with yellow rice and cabbage. To me the curry is on the spicy side but its Good. Its right next to the flea market. They’re really slow to be honest maybe just my experiences but the food is worth it.

I only make reviews for restaurants that are worth it or absolutely not. Lorna’s is definitely worth it. The employees including the young lady working the register was very kind and checked up on my boyfriend and I. Most black owned restaurants we visit have insincere service but not this one. The food speaks for itself, prices are cheap and the interior design is very nice despite of the location. Great experience and will be back soon

The food is delicious! I had the ox tail with the rice and beans and some cake. They brought it out right away. They have a small dining area where you can sit and eat. But I would prefer just taking their food to go. It’s not that attractive on the inside. either way, I’ll be coming here again and again… it’s delicious.

Great-tasting food, lots of it, and at a good price? I’m sold! My friend and I were pleasantly surprised when we found this place on Unilocal,as the place where we originally were set to meet ended up being a takeout only place. We were skeptical, I will admit, as we arrived. Lorna’s is located in a nondescript shopping plaza that is pretty deserted. They don’t even have a sign outside the local, which is why we nearly missed it(they really ought to purchase a sign). The restaurant looks like any store or other business nearby, you probably would not even know this is a restaurant unless you made an effort to walk around or look for it. The inside was surprisingly nice. With a backdrop of a nice skyline view at night on the wall of the dining area, the white tables glistened. Considering white is a color that easily shows filth, it was nice to see everything sparkling clean(and unusual, too, especially when it seems every place in South Florida has the infamous sticky tables). We ordered at the counter, and decided to get a large(a large is about $ 9.00 and includes two sides), of the brown stew chicken, as they were out of the jerk chicken. They’re not joking when they say«large.» I had only eaten a cup of ramen noodles for lunch about 8 hours prior, so I had a pretty substantial appetite, yet was unable to finish my meal. Speaking of the meal, my friend and I got the rice and peas as a side, as well as the mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was finger-licking good! One of the best I have ever had. It had a thick layer of cheese on top, and all the macaroni was gooey with cheese. The brown stew chicken was a generous portion too, and very savory. My friend raved about the mac and cheese especially, so it was a unanimous hit. They ask you if you want a light amount of gravy or a thick amount of gravy for your rice. We both asked for extra gravy, so our rice was very moist and flavorful, with more than enough left over for our chicken. The service was friendly and the desserts behind the glass display looked really good. Considering the amount of food you get and the price, it’s a great deal. I don’t doubt that my friend will want to return soon and by the way, they do take credit cards.

We ordered jerk chicken, rice & peas with oxtail gravy. Food was pretty much everything you’d expect from a Caribbean restaurant. The place itself is small but it wasn’t that packed so we had a place to sit. Price was decent. Location was pretty ducked off don’t expect to see any big signage.

I must say, I initially had a hard time finding the location. They may want to consider larger signage so that customers can see the location from a distance. I’m glad that I finally found it. I had an enjoyable time at Lorna’s Caribbean & American Restaurant. The staff was courteous and helpful. The lady at the register took her time and explained everything to me. The food was delicious! I had the oxtails, rice and beans, and the Mac and Cheese. They gave me plenty of food. I had enough food to take home for later. The amount I took home was enough for a second meal. I plan on returning to this location to try their breakfast and other dinner menu options.

The owner is rude to customers. We waited 1 hour for our food. The owner yelled at the customers about the wait time.

I had a professional development in the area and wanted some local food. I ordered the brown stew, rice & beans, and plantains. Everything was delicious and I’m glad I decided to try something new! The service was extremely helpful when asked about how spicy certain food was. The restaurant was very clean.

I asked for fish, cabbage, & green beans. They gave me fish and two sides of mac & cheese. 2nd order: «Curry chicken», rice, and green beans. They gave me «brown stew chicken» rice and mac & cheese. The food taste good, but the service is horrible.

To find this location is a bit of a mission, easy tip. same plaza as McDonald and Flea Market but located next to Power Sound, right by a hallway of stores.

I found my oxtail spot, I love this place. The seasoning of the oxtail was on point not too spicy excellent. The Mac & Cheese and rice & peas we ordered as side items were tasty too. Don’t forget to try any of the desserts they are all good. Homemade by the Mom’s…

You know how after an intensely amazing experience you sometimes just need a cig. or a moment to breath and question if that really happened, and if so, can and when will it happen again? Well, that’s how I feel about Lorna’s! Lorna’s is quite possibly the best Caribbean/American restaurant I’ve ever had! It tastes just like home cooking, which works for me. I remember having Lorna’s when I taught in Miami three years ago at a Teacher’s Appreciation function and it’s always held a space in my heart/stomach. So, when I came into town recently, I knew I had to find a way to finally visit the restaurant. This place is definitely a little hole in the wall in the Carol Mart plaza at the corner of 183rd street and NW27th ave. It doesn’t look like much from the outside… in fact it doesn’t look appealing at all! But whatever magic they’ve got working in the kitchen minimizes all of the exterior and interior imperfections. I can’t even believe that I’d lived less than 10 minutes from this place for at least 10 years! Okay, okay, so I don’t know how long Lorna’s has been at this location, but I’ve never been there until recently… now that I’ve moved out of the city! Hmph! This place is definitely slept on. I had the brown stew chicken, rice and peas, cabbage, and a slice of red velvet cake. This whole meal was heaven! I’d intended to take the plate home to eat, but as I waited for my sister to finish up down the street, the food kept calling out for me and I ate it all. Right there in the car! **Don’t judge me!** I did manage to save a piece of cake to share w/my sis. :-) The cashier was helpful in recommending things from the menu and I also believe the owner was there also. She was pleasant to all the customers and even held the door for patrons as we exited. Give them a try. Hopefully it’ll be as good to you as it was to me.
