Old Hat Fishing Charters

We had a blast on our trip. We went on out on a cruise in the bay and had some yummy sandwiches and drinks. I’d definitely recommend Paul and the Old Hat again!

We had a great day on Old Hat with Paul and Charlie. We caught fish and had fun doing it. We came to town for my son’s 14^th birthday, called about 5 charters and Paul was the only one to call back. We went out on time, came back on time (with fish) and everything we agreed on was fulfilled. I’ll call these guys on my next trip with my other son for sure.

I would definitely not recommend Old Hat Charters. I’m sure there will be a rebuttal and I understand «It’s called fishing not catching». However, I don’t think the going rate for a boat ride is $ 650. I believe it’s incumbent on the vendor, and vendor to guide a customer. Having said that, why bother going «Hunting for bigger fish» OFFSHORE while on a ½ day Charter. When as the professional you know that there isn’t time to get far enough out.
The amount wasn’t at issue, the timing could have been adjusted to a ¾ day or whole day trip, if we were advised. But to just take a ride out and follow a few birds that were as stated by the Captain «too high» up to be over fish makes no sense. If the best way to a fun filled ½ day charter is to fish the reef, than I would have preferred fishing the reef. No other charter captains that day went offshore for ½ day charters. The mate was more concerned about how the trip went than the captain. I couldn’t take someone’s money up front and keep it and still sleep at night. I guess if it’s not a local, there’s less chance for repeat business anyway. But we were local, so not only do I post here, but I let my peers know as well.
If we went out all day on the reef, and got zero fish, or caught only inedible fish, that would have been «mother nature» as the captain so politely told me. The decision wasn’t made by mother nature, it was made by the captain.

Captain Paul and 1^st mate Charley were amazing! They were professional and provided my parents with memories that will last a lifetime! Took us out, of the open waters but we didn’t go out as far as I would have liked but still reeled in 3 fish each. I would recommend them and will be the charter I use in the future!
