My first time having stone crab. I never heard of stone crab?! What?! When we arrived in Miami, all I’ve been hearing and seeing are stone crabs. Even on our way to key west I saw a bunch of restaurants that serve stone crab but I hear joe’s stone crab is the most popular establishment to experience stone crabs! Our party of 6 arrived at 5pm and were seated right away. Our group of gals like to share plates so we ordered family style. We started off with the lobster bisque. Very nice and creamy, goes great with the table bread, For sides we ordered the lobster mac n cheese, sauteed spinach, grilled asparagus and for the main order, 14 piece(?) stone crab and grilled rib eye steak to share. The stone crab was delish and fresh. I’m use to eating meaty dungeness crab but the stone crab had enough meat to satisfy my seafood craving. The rib eye steak though was phenomenal! Cooked just right and seasoned perfect. One of the best I’ve had this year. Lastly, the service here was amazing. Our server was very patient with us when trying to choose how many crabs to order because we didn’t want to take home leftovers. Once we were done with dinner, the place was packed so get here early!

Joe’s Stone Crab was on my list when I booked my trip to Miami because of all the wonderful things I had heard about it. My cousin had gone with her girlfriends on their previous trip and raved about the food and service. So of course I knew this was a must stop on my list. From the moment I called to make reservations(a party of 8) and was given a flat«No. We don’t do that here.» everything about my experience at Joe’s was OK. Upon arriving we decided to valet because if you have ever been to Miami you know that parking is almost impossible especially for a Friday night. $ 7 for valet cash only fyi. We were seated rather quickly and our waitress started off extremely friendly but then began showing signs of impatience about the questions we all had regarding the menu. This bothered me some because she knew all of us were from out of town and a lot were first timers to Joe’s. I would have liked to have seen her deal with this better. The menu prices ranged anywhere from $ 20-$ 80 depending on what you ordered. I decided on the Fried shrimp with a side of fries $ 19.95. The shrimp I found to be very fresh and good sized. The fries were ok nothing to brag about. My mother ordered the Summer Shore Dinner for $ 39.95 and what a disappointment that was. This dish comes with a 1lb lobster, clams, corn, sausage, and potatoes. Two of the clams had nothing in them just shell, and the corn was the size of a cob you would throw into making a soup. Not impressive at all. Joe’s is known for their crabs which I can’t speak on because I’m allergic to crab! If you happen to be a crab lover I would give this place a shot however if you are an occasional seafood eater I would try a different establishment in the Miami area.

The service is 4.5. Out of 5… building and setting 5 out of 5 but the food I was hoping for fresher. The stone crab was frozen previously due to being out of season, so when cooked has that watery flavor. I am sure a lot of you know the texture and fresh ocean flavor fresh crab meat taste like, then imagine this soaked in fresh water then cooked, that was the flavor and texture The fried plate was nasty, and definitely beneath them as the fries were not crisp, 2 small watery scallops and we didn’t venture to eat the 2 fried prawns. The king crab legs were not too bad, but we’re the best out of all of it. Coming from Sydney Australia, having fresh Lobster and crab regularly, I found this previously frozen seafood poor. It certainly didn’t warrant the $ 200 bill for 3 plates. I wouldn’t personally go back. I can find others who may not use 2 hand hand crab

I came to Joe’s a couple of years ago for the first time during our trip to Miami. I heard about the amazing stone crab and was definitely intrigued. Friends had warned me that this place gets busy so my partner and I came around 4:45pm to see if we could beat the crowd. For the most part, we were successful, but there was quite a few families that did the early dinner thing. So you’re probably wondering if the crab is worth it rather than anything else… yes… come! The crabs are nothing I had before, though costly. The sides are delicious as well! The brussel sprouts were my favorite. Also, the service was great too, our waiter was very helpful with his suggestions and kind. I plan on doing another visit to Joe’s for sure.

This is my first time I actually made it into Joe’s Stone Crab. I came here 2 years ago but the wait was soooo long we ended up at the take out place next door. While the food at the next door place is excellent, the actual restaurant really excel at adding the little touch that’s not available next door. First of all, the bread basket is really worth mentioning. They brought over 8 different kinds of bread in the basket ranging from pretzel, onion bread, corn bread, something similar to a pita bread. Next, I had THEBEST clam chowder I have ever had in my life! OMG! We got the stone crab claws, but since it’s not in season, the claws are definitely not as good as I remembered. I asked the server about it, he said, harvesting stone crab is illegal after May 15th. Hence, they vacuum packed the surplus, freeze and serve it during the 10 weeks of «Summer break». If you are DESPERATE to try Stone Crab Claws, go for it, but you can definitely taste the difference if you are a big foodie. Kevin our server did say, during the non stone crab season, the best alternative is the King Crab Claws grilled with Garlic oil. We did not order it, but our neighbour did. Boy! did that smell fantastic. Oh well! We are soooo stuffed we are not able to have any additional food, but I did buy a piece of key lime pie and placed it in my fridge for breakfast tomorrow. It looked great. Can’t wait!

1. Food a) Medium Sampler: For 2 to share. Stone Crabs: Cold crab claws came already broke so all you have to do is peel. It’s really good Spinach: Not the best side I’ve had Potato: A-ok Coleslaw: Really interesting way they made it, wasn’t half bad Key Lime Pie: Best pie I’ve had, I’m a fan! The crust was amazing. And the flavor had the right amount of tart and sweetness b) Fried Calamari: The breading wasn’t good and they didn’t fry it well. Flavor was also meh 2. Décor: Fine dining in Miami. I wasn’t dressed«appropriately» but lucky they took me in 3. Price: $$$ 4. Service: Top notch service. I’m also really happy to share this establishment does not force gratuity on my bill unlike all the other Miami establishments.

This is a Miami MUST. It’s much fancier than we thought it would be. It has a steakhouse vibe and we felt much more special than we did at Prime One Twelve. We came for lunch so we didn’t have trouble getting a table right away. We shared stone crabs obviously, plus a lobster roll that came with fries and coleslaw. The crabs were DELICIOUS and actually pretty filing. They are expensive but worth the splurge. The lobster roll was very creamy and full of lobster. I find a lot of places skimp out on the lobster part. We ended our meal with a piece of the infamous key lime pie which was tart and lightly sweet.

We went to the take out side of the restaurant, very big space, you can easily eat comfortably on that side. We ordered: –The crab Bisque *very good* also its a big portion, easily feeds two people. –Lobster roll *wow, its awesome, very tasty* –An order of medium size crab claws, brings 7, very fresh. The dessert was Ok. nothing spectacular.

If you’re looking for the best food in Miami look no further than Joe’s Stone Crab! I’ve been here several times over the years and it NEVER disappoints. Joe’s is a Miami icon and a must-visit on your next trip to South Beach. The staff is incredible… seriously, top notch. They are very attentive and great at giving food/wine suggestions and pairings. The food is to die for– of course you have to get the stone crabs but don’t pass up the steaks or other seafood either, it’s literally all good! For appetizers make sure to get the fritters. For the price conscious, Joe’s can fit every budget! There are a couple under $ 20 options but if you’re looking to do steak/stone crabs, be prepared to spend money(although it’s SO worth it)! You cannot make reservations at Joe’s. If it’s a busy Friday or Saturday night the best thing to do is to get there around 4:30(the bar opens at 4 and the main dining room opens at 5), put your name on the list(yes, there will already be quite a list well before they open), and grab drinks and appetizers at the bar. If you do this you will be guaranteed a table within the first 30 minutes of them opening and you can take your time to enjoy your meal. The restaurant is huge but it fills up very quickly– if you come during the busy dinner hours(7−8pm) you could be looking at hours of wait time depending on the night. Overall, you can’t go wrong with Joe’s. This place is iconic and beloved by locals and visitors for a reason.

*500th Review* For this milestone Unilocal review, I wanted to review a very special restaurant. Some place iconic, comfortable yet slightly upscale, with fantastic local cuisine and impeccable service. Yes, Joe’s Stone Crab fits the bill. My husband and I decided to come here during our recent trip to Miami Beach based on numerous recommendations, and I actually allowed the location to factor into our hotel choice in South Beach. We sauntered into the spacious and bustling restaurant around 6:30pm on a Thursday, having read all the recommendations to either«get there early or wait 3 hours.» We landed a table immediately, and decided to linger over an apéritif before leaping into the menu. This approach allows you to a) enjoy a cocktail with your date, and b) eat at a reasonable hour. Plus, the wine and cocktails are very reasonably priced for the quality. After demolishing the potpourri style bread basket, we decided to order some app’s. We were in town in April, which is peak stone crab season, so we split an order of the small claws as an appetizer. We added conch fritters as well, which came with spicy club sauce — ur, a spicy tomato sauce. All of the stone crab claws are served chilled with a cool mustard sauce and limes, which was a nice alternate. The stone crabs were fantastic. So fresh, and the kitchen cracked all the claws ahead of time, so it was easy to pull large hunks of sweet succulent meat out of the claws. The conch fritters were delicious too; I would repeat the order next time. For my main entrée, I chose the crab cakes, stuffed with a ton of meat and minimal filler. My husband’s grouper was great too. We skipped the sides, which are all served a la carte, since the appetizer portions were large, and we were running out of stomach real estate. We needed that room for their famous key lime pie, which had a savory graham cracker crust, and one pillow of whipped cream sandwiching the scrumptious citrus filling. Our entire evening was memorable and special, and I look forward to returning next time I’m in Miami Beach. After all, a return visit is not negotiable.

This. place. is. nuts. My husband decided to surprise me with this dinner choice on our anniversary trip. We came at a pretty decent time and still had to wait quite awhile, but we were prepared for it. We just hopped over to Red for a cocktail and killed some time. When we came back, we were almost to the top of the list. When we got seated, our server was pretty overwhelming. That’s honestly why I’m not going for the full 5 stars. She was very«in your face» and because I had never had stone crab before, she seized the opportunity to be «in my face» and bossy. She was nice, but exhausting. The food itself was delicious! I’d say this is an experience everyone should have while in Miami during stone crab season. They’re tasty little creatures!

During a short stay in Fort Lauderdale we swung down to Joe’s Stone Crab for a meal — it was recommended by a friend — and enjoyed our dinner immensely. Décor: At first, from the street, I thought this was nothing more than a Joe’s Crab Shack… I was wrong. The entry/bar area is nice and large, which helps with the crowds, and there are TONS of tables for nearly any size group you have. It’s a nice place, people came slightly dressed up, but it is by no means stuffy — in fact, you realize that just as soon as you see people eating w/crab bibs on(I did, in fact, don one). I don’t remember there being music, I’m sure there was, but the mummer of the other patron’s enjoying themselves was enough but not too much. It’s a lively atmosphere and you can tell that everyone is enjoying themselves just as you are. Let me recommend getting there EARLY — we got in with not too much wait but when we left the place was SLAMMED. Bathroom: pretty upscale and well looked after and clean. Staff: The host does a great job managing the«line» of people and our waiter was wonderful. He knew the menu and was happy to answer any questions we had. Also, the bus boys kept our water glasses full and the dirty plates cleared quickly. Our food also came out hot and fresh and nicely prepared. Food: I started with a Blanton’s, of course, but the rest of the party didn’t have any drinks. We began our meal with just the bread, which was very tasty, before moving onto our main course(from what we heard/expected we decided to forego an appetizer due to the meal portion sizes). We had the salmon, which was outstanding, the tilapia, also very tasty and a HUGE piece, and King Crab legs(HUGE and so good!). I would point out the individual high notes but it would just be redundant… honestly, everything was perfectly cooked and tasted magical. The crab legs… ok, I’ll just say this… were so meaty and they did all the work for me. It was glorious. Nothing on the dessert menu really jumped out at us so we passed on that. Value: This is a nice seafood place on the southern tip of Miami… it’s going to be pricey. But the food quality, taste, and the service were all spot on so we didn’t feel like we over paid by too much. Of course I’d like cheaper prices but we paid what I figured we would. I can easily say that the recommendations did not steer us wrong, this place was great and I’d return again in the future.

~This review is for Joe’s online order~ I tried Joe’s stone crab both in Chicago and Miami and I loved them. I was craving for some so I went ahead and ordered online for a Sat delivery. Joe’s shipped the claws via FedEx overnight on Fri at 2pm. ETA was before noon on Sat, however, it didn’t arrived until almost 3pm. which was more than 24 hours. I was concerned the delay might affect the quality of the claws. When I opened the box, the sauce and claws were swimming in an ice bath. The sauce was in a container without a plastic bag. The claws were in a net and triple bagged but when I opened the bags, the claws were soaked in cold water. Not sure if Joe’s had placed some ice inside the most inner bag that’s why they were soaked in water. By then, I was even more concerned on the quality. Took everything out and noticed some claws were fairly sandy so I washed everyone of them. Also, the claws were of various sizes. I ordered the a la carte large size for two but some were more on the medium size. There were total of ten claws. I decided it’s best to eat them right away rather than letting them sit further. Fortunately, the quality didn’t suffered from the lengthy shipment and still pretty sweet. Now onto the price. A la carte large size for two plus shipping came close to $ 200! Yes, $ 200 for ten claws = $ 20/claw! Yes I splurged. Is it worth it? Well, maybe if all of the claws were truly«large» claws, maybe. With some at medium size, guess unless I am dying for some stone claws, I probably won’t be ordering them again. Three stars for the quality of the claws. No stars for getting some medium size claws, high cost, and longer than expected shipment time.

This place was recommended to me and my wife as soon as we landed to Miami so we had to check it out. I definitely overlooked the price range, and we were definitely not dressed to impress for this place. We went during lunch and they had a variety of food to choose from. My wife ordered a corona and it was $ 7…wait, what? The pricing is a little ridiculous. The bread that came out before our food was pretty delicious(minus the one with filling inside). We ordered calamari and it was a good portion. My wife ordered the lobster roll and the mayonnaise definitely covered up all the other flavors. It was more like a mayonnaise roll. The potato chips that go with it are also mediocre. I ordered the seared tuna which was actually filling and cooked beautifully. It does not include any sides, but I guess you’ll be fine without it. It is a nice portion. I doubt I’ll be coming back. The food was mediocre for it to be so expensive. It just didn’t blow my mind, like I wanted it to. Service was great, though. They also have a Joe’s takeaway right beside the restaurant. I think that’s where we should’ve ended up, but oh well.

The food was good over all if I could rate the food separately would be a 4 star. The service was a 5 star, went for the lunch after reading all the negative reviews on 3 – 4 hour wait so we decided to go early no waiting for a seat the hostess escorted us to our able. 1 minutes after being seated the sever Zac came to greet us and offered drinks and letting us know their popular items on the menu, drinks(strawberry lemonade) came with a bread tray of variety of breads and crackers with butter. My husband and I orders the trio combo which was the 2 large stone crab claws, 1 King crab claw, and Maryland lump crab meat and for sides we ordered spinach, lobster Mac and cheese, grilled corn off the cob, stuffed tomatoes with spinach and cheese Service I must say was outstanding. I would recommend this place to anyone but definitely come ready to spend for the both of us after valet marking and tip we spent $ 225.00 But well worth the experience.

Waited 2.5 hours but the food was worth it. I ordered the Joe’s stone crab classic combo which comes with 6 stone crab legs, creamed spinach, potato, and key lime pie. I also ordered the oysters on half shell. It was the perfect amount of food for my date and I. The bread selection here is also amazing! There were these 2 rolls of onion bread and they were delicious. If you’re planning to visit Joe’s stone crab, come early to at least put down your name and then go find something to do. They don’t take reservations.

Excellent! It is not a cheap restaurant, but worth the hype. If you want a nice, large, comfortable restaurant with excellent service and top-notch food, then Joe’s is the place. I went right at 6PM, so I didn’t have to wait at all, I was seated right away. The dining room is very large and spacious, and the waiters are dressed in traditional formal black and white. The crab bisque was DELICIOUS. Creamy and full of real crab flavor. I got the 3 claw dinner special(2 sides with the claws) and it was perfect. Lots of fresh, cold crab meat in the claws, dipped in the mustard sauce – mmmmm! The potato«hash brown»(really just one block of potato) was decent, and the creamed spinach was very good. Overall, a very satisfying meal. Definitely make a point to visit Joe’s when in Miami.

Absolutely worth the price if you like this kind of food. Probably worth the wait as well, although we got there right at 5pm when it opened and walked right in(along with probably 100 other people who also showed up early). We got stone crabs, king crabs, fried chicken, hash browns, cream spinach, and the key lime pie for dessert. The crab was all outstanding — if not the best I’ve ever had, then close(although crab is admittedly not my favorite thing). The fried chicken was also very good, and almost pathologically cheap — I cannot understand why a place like this, which is pretty expensive overall, has a full dinner item that is $ 7. No complaints at all, it just seemed so out of place. The sides were good as well, but definitely not what I’ll remember. What I definitely will remember, maybe more than anything else, was the key lime pie, which was among the best desserts I’ve had in recent memory. Really outstanding. Overall, we had a really good experience here, and I would definitely recommend. It was definitely pricey, and would have been even more so had we not done the hilariously-prices fried chicken, which is the only thing that holds it back from being five stars for me.(I will admit, though, that if I really loved eating this kind of food, I might have thought of it somewhat differently.)

I had not been to Joe’s in a couple of years but I really could not miss this season. We arrived on a Friday night around 7:30PM and the wait was about an hour or less. No, we did not slip anyone any extra money or have any hookups. We waited by the bar, had some drinks and ordered some appetizers. We were called shortly after we finished our appetizer and were surprised, we had waited less than an hour to be seated on a Friday night at Joe’s! We started off by ordering a bottle of Laurent-Perrier and other whiskey drinks. Our waiter, Soli, was fabulous and all of his recommendations in regards to the different items and portions were spot on. We split the stone crab bisque which was perfect, the temperature was ideal and the taste was rich. We also ordered the east/west coast oysters and both of the oysters went above my expectations. The east coast oysters were higher in salinity but both were plump and juicy, minimal sauce was needed to enjoy these oysters. Personally, I preferred the west coast oysters but it all depends on what you like. As an entrée, we ordered stone crabs, a trio, and Alaskan legs along with lobster mac and cheese, and grilled tomatoes. The stone crabs come cracked and ready for consumption. They tasted really well with our champagne and although you are provided a sauce for the crabs, it is not needed to fully enjoy them. I always recommend trying them without the sauce first but then again, that is my personal preference. The stone crabs are fresh, juicy and the meat is easy to pull out. There is no need to struggle with your crab at Joe’s. The lobster mac and cheese was good but it did not compare to the stone crabs, at all. The grilled tomatoes were like tiny pizza slices, I am no fan of tomatoes but the melted cheese on top made them irresistible. We finished off the meal with a key lime pie, which is brought out cold and deliciously creamy. I highly recommend Joe’s if you can catch them when they are open for the season, you definitely get your money’s worth and more.

Is Joe’s expensive? Yes. Is it crowded? Yes. But is it so amazingly delicious? YES! YES! YES! You don’t go to Joe’s expecting a cheap, quick meal. You go expecting some amazing stone crabs, great bread, delicious sides and the best key lime pie ever. It’s an institution and it’s clear why. If you haven’t been, it’s a must. They open at 445 to start seating. If you get there at 5, you will likely get the 2nd seating, around 630. The bar area gets jammed by 8. There is also a take out option next door with tables to eat there as well. There is not waiter service there but you can get anything you would get at the restaurant. It’s a great option as well!

The Quick: Amazing fresh crabs. Plenty of non-seafood options as well. Fine dining without the stuffiness. Opt to sit outside near the fountain on nice days. The Details: As a seafood lover, I was in heaven at Joe’s. The large stone crab comes with five claws which we split between three people. We ordered plenty of other food, but each wanted some of the crab, which was of course the winner. The lobster mac & cheese was delicious with a healthy portion of lobster. We also loved the conch fritters. The only thing I thought was mediocre were the hashbrowns. The Damage: Fairly expensive,(crabs are not cheap– that was where the real money is spent). Worth it for a treat.

Oh was war das heute für ein Erlebnis. Wir mussten hier einfach her.
