I have been going to this place forever, mofongo with churrasco is amazing. Staff is very friendly and Alex does an excellent job.

Hear me out. The food was amazing, but the service and wait was… well the only way to out it is not right. I’m from SD and we rented a place ½ block away from here. We Unilocaled paces near by like we all do and this spot popped up. Long story short we ordered are food and it’s takes 55 mins to come out. We ordered it to go! While we were in there a lot of people came in who personally know the guy behind the counter and cook. Don’t get me wrong the guy was really nice but never once said sorry or hey have a drink on me for taking almost an hour to get your food ready. Just a sorry woulda done job. Anyways if you have the time, patience or happen to know someone there then go for it. Great food. Of not then go to McDs down the street. You’ll save a lot of money and time.

Sorry but I had the jimmy z chopped salad with chicken and I never tasted chicken so bad. It had a rubbery texture and no flavor. It tasted like it was raw but it was cooked through. I’m not sure how chicken gets this way but it was terrible. This is the first time I ordered this salad so I do not know if it is like this all the time or was isolated.

Had the seared tuna over rice with avocado and tomato. Very good, large portion, reasonably priced. It’s more a take out place, only a couple of tables. Nice lady working there. If I went back I would try the mofongo which looked really interesting.

Order the seared tuna, which is around 17 $. The tuna and the veggie is great, 5 star. But the jasmine rice really sucks. It’s like cooked by microwave oven. Since I am Chinese and grown up eating fresh steamed rice, this kind of convenient rice tastes really bad for me.

I’m leaving a negative review because this isn’t the first, second, or even the third time I’ve had a bad experience ordering takeout from jimmyz on Alton. I’ve gotten bugs in my salad, cucumbers after saying I’m allergic, and today’s order just really set me off and drove me to leave a negative review. I ordered the steak frites and after we placed an order for the entire office, we got a call back saying they did not have the steak frites and only had prime rib on location so I said that was fine, big mistake. It all looked good until I actually started to eat the steak, which was all fat. I’ve had to throw out every piece I tried to eat because it was gooey and disgusting. Highly upset, mainly because it isn’t the first incident. I will never order from here again for myself!

Carb lovers, go for the mofongo. It is ALL about the mofongo, which I believe is a weekend special at Jimmy’z. And I’m not really a huge plaintain fan. Mine was a mofongo with shrimp creole. The shrimp was a tad overcooked, but damn, that sauce just about made the dish sparkle.

I really like this place for a lunch on recovery days. They have a lot of really good dishes for reasonable prices. It’s small, but the food is great. I’ve tried the tripleta and several items off their daily specials menu and have yet to feel let down. The jerk chicken salad was particularly good

A local’s’ favourite. Not much kerb appeal, but plenty of kitchen sensations can be found here. It’s all about the food here, oh and the staff are friendly too.

I order from here often and the food is alright nothing really to complain about. Except for today’s order… Well first off after I placed my order I had time to take a shower, wash my hair, do a hair treatment, and smoke a blunt. So you can already guess that my food was cold when it arrived. My steak was cold the rice was kind of on the warm side but still a little cold. And also I’m a fan of their avocado and tomato salad but not today. There was not one piece of avocado in there at all. JUSTTOMATO … And mind you I love avocados more than I do tomatoes. This was just a total disappointment and I probably won’t be ordering here again.(P.s. This review started with 3 stars but since I can’t even enjoy the food had to bring it down to a 2)

I come to this place on a daily basis.(sometimes twice a day) I order either the chicken and rice, or churassco steak and rice. I’ve had pretty much everything on the menu, and everything has been 5 stars. Service is exceptional, and the delivery is extremely fast. If I ever left south beach, this is the place I would miss the most.

Jimmyz kitchen was the first spot I ate at when I landed in Miami for the first time on a Thursday. I really wanted to try the mofongo but I didn’t know that they only offer it Friday through Sunday. There is only 4 tables in side and about 2 outside. Luckily we were able to get a table inside. A lot of people came in and picked up their order to go. They seemed like regulars. I ordered a steak frites, medium well. It came out more on the well side but that’s ok, the taste made up for it. There was this peppercorn butter placed on top of the steak and it was just delicious! Seasoning was amazing. I shared it and there was not one piece left. It also came with a small side salad with tomatoes and cucumbers. The steak frites is actually part of the chefs specials so hopefully they don’t discontinue this any time soon. The next day we decided to come back to try out other items. We got the chicken mofongo and the churrasco chimchurri. The mofongo was a big portion. The tomato based sauce it sat in went well with the mofongo. The pieces of chicken breast were kind of tough. That we the only thing I disliked bout it. The churrasco chimchurri(skirt steak) tasted like old meat. We were not a fan at all. There was no flavor compared to the steak. The price difference should have been a a big hint for us. The funny part is two people from the day we went before also dined at the same time the second day we went.

I’ve been to Jimmy’z five times and it’s ranged from a 3 – 5 depending on what has been ordered. The best: Mofongo. Not the best I’ve ever had, but very good for something that is not forgiving and can be very bad. Generous seafood portions with ample mojo/garlic broth. Had a hint of what I thought was saffron. Big portion. The good: Carne Guisada. I always feel like regardless of whether it’s Cracker Barrel, Jimmy’z or Johnny’s Diner, roast beef always comes with small portions. The beef and gravy were really good, but portion size was small. The mediocre: Cuban Mojo Pork and Churrasco. The pork was just bland and I can’t say much to add to that. wasn’t bad, but not flavorful either. The Churrasco itself was good, but the Chimichurri sauce was very disappointing — almost Badia like, more purée than diced. I really like Jimmy’z, buy I’d either hit the weekends for mofongo or try something else on the menu.

Super tiny miami beach spot Get the mofongo. Period They have other menu items but I can’t order anything else… Only available on the weekends but so worth the wait And it is their specialty My favorite is the shrimp But the steak is delicious too Just get there early and prepare to wait for a teeny tiny table.

Considering they have about 500 square feet to feed the masses of South Beach, doesn’t surprise me that this place is always highly recommended by foodies all across Miami. On weekends they offer their specialty: Mofongo. It’s basically like a tostone mushed with lots of Hispanic treats to resemble what looks like a bed of plantain mash served on top of whatever meat you like: chicken, shrimp, even scallops! My boyfriend always eats their Ahi Tuna time after time again. I opted for the burger because well… sometimes you just need a burger. medium of course. The fries where sliced potatoes evenly crisped which pair perfect with some good ol’ ketchup. I could suggest them serving some fruity iced teas but Orangina works too. The delivery here is quick and reliable plus my boyfriend tells me the lady has been there forever and that she’s very sweet. I’d definitely return.

A little hole in the wall set back from Alton rd and 15 st. These guys run a brisk take out and delivery business. With that being said our order wasn’t so quick to come out. Great salad, panini and sides on the menu. Disappointed I missed a mofongo night. Damn it smells good. Food didn’t disappoint. Great sized salads(ahi yum) which is helpful since you will want dessert. Coconut flan was good but I prefer mine eggier. Watch out for the dense, fruit filled bread pudding, don’t go it one. Glad to have found this fast, healthy casual spot.

SIZEISN’T ALWAYSEVERYTHING We had previously met Jimmy along with his architect and business partner years ago when they had most recently opened their newest location in Wynwood Arts District. At that time we had not taken into account that Jimmy’z Kitchen all began on Miami’s Alton Road adjacent to a most familiar Wok Town(30 plus years in business). Our fond memories by now are switched onto overdrive. This place sits no more than ten persons. It was designed for takeout and delivery. Very similar to next door’s Wok Town’s business setup. The parking lot they shared will never accommodate high volume dine ins. There’s enough room for one front room employee, one in the kitchen and two delivery guys on mopeds that have seen better days. REMEMBER… parking is at a premium. The front room lady and manager was really sweet and gave us some sound recommendations. We went with Cuban Mojo Pork and Jerked Chicken Salad. To this day we still talk about how amazing our lunch turned out to be. So don’t let this tiny restaurant fool you. They can compete with the very best when it comes to dishing out solid Caribbean cuisines.
