Getting a hotel on South Beach can be a tricky balance. You want all the luxury expected of SoBe, you want to be right on the beach and you live in the burbs and are expecting a $ 120 nightly rate. If you’re willing to sacrifice luxury for location then this is a good hotel choice for you. The property is located on Ocean Dr. directly across the street from South Beach and amidst the famous Art Deco district home to many cafes, restaurants, bars and night clubs. The room was clean and featured working air-conditioning, Direct TV and offered beach towels for use. Other than that, the amenities were non-existent so to speak. The staff was very friendly and didn’t mind storing our luggage in their secure storage room while we hit the beach prior to check-in time. Aside from showering and sleeping, we didn’t spend much time in the room so the price and location was perfect for us! I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to travelers who are looking for more luxury or who enjoy spending more down time at a hotel, but c’mon it’s South Beach. Get out and enjoy it!

Very unfriendly waiter and we get the bill before we get our cocktails. Never ever again!!! Zero Stars will rate it better!!!

Standards in this place are way below the cheapest motel you could find. This was definitely the worst hotel we ever stayed in, and the price was close to a fancy hotel. You can stay in a much better hotel 5 min from there, on collins avenue for half the price, and full service.

Absolutely the worst hotel I’ve even stayed at. Never got my sheets changed the entire time I was here. There was a pile of hair in a corner from before I arrived that was never swept up. Everything was sticky and the closet smelled like cigarettes. Immediately went out to buy Febreeze and Clorox wipes. If unfortunately have to stay here, bring your own sheets, pillows, and cleaning supplies. This hotel is offensive.

First of all this 1930’s Art Deco building is Located in the Art Deco District along world-famous Ocean Drive. I stayed here one night in June 2013 with my teenage son and boyfriend. This is an old hotel so every detail I appreciate, the room was small but who cares we were barely in our room and we didn’t even turn on the TV. The location is really what you pay for, there is a parking garage right around the corner(walking distance). What I found really cool was a fully functional 1930’s elevator that still works! ***Bring ear plugs*** =)

The two-for-one drinks are a huge scam. Watered-down, cheap liquor, and WAY overpriced($ 31+ w/tax and grat !!). I will never give them my business again.

To start my review let me first say that the rating I am giving the hotel is not because of the room or amenities. It is strictly being given because of the location and the great front desk staff. Rooms — Are horrible! They are small they are outdated dingy. The bathrooms are terrible. The linens are disgusting and the towels are not properly cleaned. Location — Amazing you are directly on the strip. So you walk right out the front door and on the other side of the street are the sands of south beach! Plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Price — Pretty much dirt cheap. Staff — I had the pleasure of dealing with Noël when we got there! I hated the hotel room and he could tell. He proceeded to really be compassionate, welcoming, and extremely helpful. For that reason alone they received this rating. If your looking for luxury you are at the wrong hotel. If you are looking for a hotel to lounge around at this is not it. But if you plan on being outside of the hotel a lot and only sleep there for a cheap price. STAYATTHECAVALIER.

The location is great, and the customer service is awesome! My friend rented here last weekend, and I had a killer headache at night after a day of drinking. The person in charge of the hotel at night was very nice, gave me some Tylenol that I asked for! Not a lot of people do this! Just for this simple gesture, I would most likely rent here! The hotel is old, but very well kept, and the room that she stayed in was regular size.

The staff was downright rude. No customer service what-so-ever! Guy at the front desk can not handle customers and complains about them after they leave the desk. The room smells. We had to change our room a couple of times. Rooms are old, outdated, rundown, old broken plumbing and tiles… $ 200 per night! Not worth it! Go elsewhere!!! Would NEVER stay here again and would not recommend it to my worst enemy. Will also post this on Urban Spoon.

2 Stars are for the location… right on Beachfront property with reasonable prices. As far as the hotel and the rooms… maybe a 1 star. They took a security deposit from us for $ 100 incase we broke somehing in the room. Trust me… there was nothing to break. Our bathroom had mold on the floor and on the shower doors. My wife took a shower with her slippers on. The closet door was missing. The beds and the linen/pillows were totally worn out and nothing i have seen before in a hotel like this. If they just spent a little bit of their money to improve small things like this it would be a great hotel to stay at. Valet parking was $ 25.00 for the night . The staff was friendly and helpful. At first we were told we could not check in before 3pm but the girl let us check in at 2.30… lol . It was a good location so we didn’t care much andthe price was right for a Friday night $ 99.00.

I came here for vacation with some friends, and we picked this hotel because it’s cheap and at a good location. It’s right by the beach, shopping, and all the tourist restaurants and clubs. However, the rooms are run down!!! The bed was so uncomfortable, I could feel the springs piercing into my body. I got a bruise from sleeping on my side, and I’m young!!! The bathroom is dirty. One of my friends took a shower at the beach shower to avoid our dirty hotel room bathroom!!! The security of the hotel is questionable. We didn’t feel 100% safe staying here as girls. Overall, I wouldn’t stay here again. I would pay the extra money to stay in a cleaner and more secure hotel. Plus parking was ~$ 20 a night too. You pay for what you get!!!

The location is fantastic. You can walk out of the front door and about 15 feet later, you are walking on the sands of South Beach. Quick walk to anything on Ocean Drive or or S Collins. As such, I didn’t spend much time inside the room but it was small, old and had a 9 inch analog TV. The bathrooms were mostly clean, just hard to move around in. There were no used condoms in the trash can, a plus. It’s worth it just for the location but don’t expect anything fancy.

As previous reviewers have commented, the Cavalier is in a fantastic location. If you are staying on South Beach, you are looking to go to the beach, correct? It is just across the street! All in all, less than ten minutes from your room to a settled spot on the beach: not too shabby, at all. This is also a very convenient location if you are looking to dine and go out along Ocean Drive– plenty of options for both(and proximity to Starbucks for coffee and 7⁄11 for snacking after coming home at 3 am). The bad news: BEDBUGS. Apparently bed bug bites can appear up to 14 days after you were bitten, and I was an absolute nervous wreck(and itchy!) thinking I came home with these horrid rascals to cause this, so please take care in avoiding bringing them back by using bed bug proofing in luggage and reading up about prevention. Even the most expensive hotels in New York and all over the world have this problem, so I can’t hate too much on the hotel, as these guys are found lots of places. Fun fact: not everyone reacts to the bugs; my friends showed no signs of bites. We were in two separate rooms at the hotel on the third floor(the walls are fairly thin, and tough luck for you when you get the room next to the screeching spring breakers), so either one of the rooms had a bug problem which caused 41 bites on my body in total. To modify a popular LMFAO lyric down there, I was(bitten) in Miami, b*tch! Also, you shouldn’t stay here if you aren’t 420-friendly. This scent greeted us every time we came into the lobby and elevator, but it was pleasantly relaxing. Bottom line: Great location: BEACH! You get what you pay for. Bring earplugs. And try not to let the bed bugs bite!

Booked blindly, do not stay here. Door didn’t lock, window view of alley next door. Room smelled of smoke, bathroom was filthy. Cigarette burns and stains on bed sheets and comforter. Had to book another hotel after already paying and checking into this one.

You can’t beat the location right on Ocean Drive– literally steps from the beach for the price. Not a fancy hotel by any means– but if you want to be in he middle of it all in South Beach without paying outrageous prices — this is the place to stay. Clean and excellent location. The crab shack there was very good — best dining we had on South Beach.

Did not stay here, just came here to eat. The food and service was great. Posted pictures of what we ate: seafood paella and the lobster. The food was delicious! The paella was good because it was balanced and not too saucy like other places. If I ever go back to Miami, I would definitely come back here to eat.

Stayed 1 night during Spring Break 2011. Beautiful Ladies at the Bar and Hotel CheckIn. Great Locaton. Rooms Decent. Small analog TV, bathroom ugly. «Can’t Believe you cannot charge meals at their restaraunt to your room bill.» Parking Sucks. I would stay again, but not more then 2 nights.

Booked through … there was a miscommunication between us, priceline, and the hotel, which delayed our check-in process by an hour. The rooms were decent for the price of the hotel. The maid service was so inconsistant throughout the 5 days we spent there, that we never knew when they were going to come, and we normally wound up being in the room sleeping/resting when they wanted to clean — so for the first 2 days, our room wasn’t touched. The free Internet was a perk, though.

GREATLOCATION! friendly front desk and pretty good food/drinks this is not a 4 start joint but for the price it is GREAT! pros: free drink upon arrival, friendly staff, great location! near everything, very non chalant hotel, kinda«anything goes», we basically had a party in our hotel every night we stayed here and they where cool with it! cons: small 1950’s elevator that only fits 2 people at a time lazy maids try to lightly clean your room, you kinda have to beg/force them to give you extra towels
