Worst massage ever!!! Not worth the ride. No pressure whatsoever. Just a slathering of lotion and LOUD relaxing music. So disappointing.

My boyfriend was trying to be sweet and got me a groupon for a mani-pedi here. Even with the very very cheap groupon price, I would not recommend it. The mani-pedi took at least 2 hours. Ridiculous. I understand they’re learning but come on. The girl cut up my fingers and toes, it was awful. The«teacher» barely looks at what they’re doing. I wouldn’t want to go to a salon that any of these girls end up at. Totally unprofessional. I get that it’s a school but they really should be teaching professionalism.

I usually don’t write reviews but for this situation I have made a exception, I bought a Groupon and was very excited to try out the students skills! Made a appointment and when I arrived I was told that they had no English speaking students available to do my services. Okay no problem I’ll re schedule, so when I called back to re schedule I told the girl on the line her name being Vanessa that I’d greatly appreciate to be paired with someone who spoke English if possible being that I am having my hair cut and all I’d like to have some sort of communication. I was then directly told«you need to understand where you are, this is Miami». I was flabbergasted and felt utterly disrespected as a american living in AMERICAN I am deeply saddened by this situation and wish it upon no one. I feel obligated to write this review because of my initial excitement about the great opportunity and fantastic deal on Groupon yet to be very upset and deeply disrespected as a american.

You need to come here with a lot of time on your hands. I came here for a haircut(wanted a couple of inches taken off, with some light layering), and 3 hours later left satisfied with the cut yet knowing it wasn’t worth 3 hours of my life. This was a weekday, so I can’t imagine what a weekend wait could be. The place itself is quite nice and the students were all friendly, but every student is different so some were good and some weren’t so much — though the teachers are around so I don’t think a disaster would ever occur(big assumption?). My stylist was pretty insecure about cutting what I thought was a pretty basic haircut, so her teacher basically ended up cutting my hair. Some other observations: A man came in while I was getting my haircut, and the person doing it had never trimmed a man’s hair. All the students seemed expert at blowdrys — for those of you out there wanting voluminous bombshell hair, these students will provide that look. A lot of the clients were getting coloring done, and I think for expensive services like color, it’s probably worth the wait for the right price BSA provides. But for a simple haircut, unless you have nothing else to do, I’d skip it.

I’ve been coming here for a while because I’ve always been irritated that a lady haircut costs 3x what a man’s does(and in my case, I have straight ass long hair. Probably the simplest cut possible). So I love a beauty bargain, and BSA on 5th is a Mecca for people like me. Firstly, this must be the most beautiful beauty school on the planet. Chandeliers. Décor. Lighting. This is the Cher Horowitz closet of beauty schools. It feels no different than a professional salon! But the front desk greeter can frustrate(one in the past was extremely rude, and new girls are a little spacy). The wait time, particularly on Saturdays, can be long so you’ve got to get there right at 9 if possible. Also, fewer students work after holidays(meaning longer waits) so call ahead if you can. Customer service skills are… developing, so just remember you’re getting a good price, and if you go expecting a little sass, you won’t be put off. Now let’s talk about the services: yes, the stylists are rookies, BUT if you’re hesitant to do a service like color, you should know that all students in the salon are practicing under the watchful eye of their teacher. And the teacher that has been there as long as I’ve been going, Ida, knows her stuff. She watches students mix color, talks haircut strategy and how-to, so by the time a student goes to work, a customer can be pretty confident in what’s to come. I’ve never had a single disaster because of the Yoda-like Ida instructing my student stylists. Now the students themselves might concern you if they were left alone, and I have noticed many don’t speak English well so thankfully there is always someone there to help out the situation.(I speak enough Spanish to get around Miamj beach pretty well, but ask me to describe a haircut or color request and I’d be screwed.) So for final advice: don’t be afraid to check this place out, but go with a clear sense of what you want. If you’re a simple cut and highlight girl like me, this place is a dream. But don’t come to experiment or you might leave disappointed. ;)

Somehow wound up in Miami with REALLY raggedy toes and ya’ll know we can’t have that! My husband found out from some ladies at Churro Manolo that this beauty school has $ 13 mani/pedis! The wait was REALLY long and we had to come back twice(during what was possilby Miami’s 1 rainy day) as the students are only available for mani/pedi during mornings and evenings. The student who did my mani/pedi was efficient and conscientious. There weren’t too many colors to choose from. I sort of felt like I was at a slumber party having a cousin do them; not a bad thing. At any rate, I left with my fingers and toes looking good. The mani was particularly good. The pedi lasted only a few days before it started to chip but hey, for the price, it was a good experience.

One needs to set their expectations accordingly for a place like this. It’s not a normal salon in that the stylists are students and constantly rotating through. You never know how lucky you’ll be with your student. I just tried this place out on a whim, today. The price of $ 12 for a man’s wash and cut is great, but I got what I paid for. I didn’t have to wait too long to get cut after dropping in. My stylist was very friendly, but spoke very little English. This wasn’t a problem for me as my Spanish is decent, but may be for others. I just wanted a simple cut. She spent an hour on me. Normally one would think that spending more time on you would be a good thing, but I wasn’t very impressed with the cut. She was definitely still a student :) I think it took so long because she didn’t really have much experience and was trying too hard. She couldn’t seem to find a #3 or #4 attachment for the school-provided buzzer after looking through her station and others. She ended up having to use her own buzzer. This wasn’t her fault, but rather the school’s. You’d think the school could do better equipping their students. Her old buzzer irritated my neck a bit, but I’ll live. I think if I were a woman who normally gets charged $ 50 or more for having her hair done, I’d be more into this place. As it is, I’ll go back to Hair Cuttery down the street for a $ 15 cut next time by a barber who I know does a quick and good job. YMMV

WOW am I impressed with this place. I’ve always wanted to go check out the one in Ft. Lauderdale but never found the time. Yesterday I called and made an appointment after randomly driving by and seeing it the day before.(No idea it was there) They took my appointment for later that same day no problem. I was a little nervous– The receptionist was on crack she was so cheery but of course super nice. I came early and only waited for MAYBE5 minutes before they came over to get me. I asked for a Shampoo– Haircut– BlowDry 28 bucks sweet. My hair is really long(and thats how they base the prices) so I wasn’t too nervous about getting a rookie to cut it because with long hair flaws in cutting are easily hidden. Anyways, I showed them my pics, we chatted for a bit and didn’t start until I felt she totally understood what I wanted, which is a totally new thing for me. And it was her choice, even though they saw the pics they still spoke directly to me to make sure what I wanted. WOW. When I say«they» its because its the student and the teacher. I LOVEMYHAIR ! I’m so impressed ! It took a little longer than usual because she’s a rookie but it turned out FABULOUSSSS This is the first time I’ve EVER left a salon and felt 100% great about the cut and the style, ever. I’ll be back for more haircuts, facials, massages, maybe even a color… maybe. In conclusion: Great Energy Great Teachers Great Prices Will Be Back
