Had some of the best rolls in my life here, go early before it gets too packed!!! Small place but accommodating — we love the sushi here!!! The Snow roll/VCR are amongst the favorites :)

I would say the sushi flavor is pretty good but need more variety. Also, it is kind of slow to wait for their dish. Service and environment are nice too. Want to give three and a half star but cannot, so stick to three stars.

This place is awful… I don’t care what they say about the food, their service is terrible and time to cook is unacceptable. We simply did take out and their time to prepare was 45 minutes! They were rude about it and said that’s the norm for a Friday night. I don’t know of anywhere else that has that long of a wait for a few rolls of sushi. I would not recommend this place to anyone, no matter how desperate they are.

Presentation was great but, the sauces were overwhelming and the rolls were too sweet for me.

sushi was pretty good and tasty… was a little warm so you lose points for that… staff was not very familiar with gluten or the ingredients they use and communication barrier was huge… however they did all they could do to accommodate us and it was appreciated…$ 45 for three sushi rolls and a coke… seemed expensive but about the going rate… not sure if we’d go back since there are other sushi places nearby we enjoy…

Food was good, service was mediocre. Seemed like every request was a bother to the staff, things like asking for new plates for our sushi after eating noodles in old ones, extra napkins, an extra fork or two. And staff should smile a little more. They all seemed so sad/bored.

Small place, nice waitstaff. Sushi is fresh, fresh, fresh and the tempura is yummy! Our favorite Japanese restaurant!

I used to eat here so frequently over the course of 5 years. It was my favorite sushi spot with fresh fish, friendly staff, creative rolls. Unfortunately slowly over the past 1 – 2 years the quality of the fish has gone downhill significantly. Last ate here 2 – 3 months ago and will not be going back :(sorry Mr. pi! But the quality of the fish and rolls just isn’t what it used to be.

I have been going for many years and they know us very well. They have great rolls and many other dishes and the have the best edamame.

I have eaten at this restaurant in the past and loved it. I don’t live in NJ but I used to always stop there. I have not been there in over two years and was excited to go tonight. I am not sure what happened but tonight the sushi tasted terrible. When I told the lady the roll tasted bad she said«u ordered it so take it home». I will never go back there. My favorite speciality rolls we just dosed in highly caloric sauces with no love. Oh well another great sushi place turned to poop! Mr. Pi your were needed tonight :)

Twice experienced here and not too bad but not great! Chinese owned and they act like Japanese. I enjoyed sashimi and sushi for over 20 years and I have tried so many different places and different type of sushi and sashimi.

I come here once a year for my sister’s birthday — she prefers this place to other sushi spots in the area because the fish here is, admittedly, very fresh. However, each year, the experience is pretty much the same: The rolls are lacking in creativity — particularly regarding their sauces. There’s nothing inherently bad with the rolls, but there’s also nothing alluring about them, either. The Mexican and jalapeño rolls are tasty, but underwhelming. The kani salad is hit or miss. Over all, the menu itself is rather boring. While I’ve been to other sushi places that have truly amazed me and caused subsequent cravings that result in my frequent return, this place never elicits such a response. If it’s not my sister’s birthday, I don’t bother coming here. I also take issue with the service, which ranges from mediocre to downright rude. Personally, I prefer Ninja Sushi in North Brunswick. The sushi is equally fresh, menu is substantially more creative, and the service is very accommodating and personable.

Very good meal. Got 2 rolls and a Kani salad. Will visit again. Got my food quick and was very fresh tasting. Was very happy with the quality of the fish and presentation even though it was in a takeout container. Will definitely visit again when I have more time to dine in.

Ate there Saturday Jan 3, service was rushed. The usual terrific edamames were mediocre at best. Sushi was bland. I spent $ 85.00 without tip or tax for myself, my wife and my adult daughter. After many meals there, this is my last one for a long time. Go to Sawa in Long Branch for better Sushi. Next time I will make the drive from Scotch Plains.

My family and I love this place! We go here for almost every birthday, special event, or just because. The sushi is So fresh and delicious, and their special rolls are very creative. It’s BYOB but they have sodas and tea for people who don’t drink alcohol. My parents are both from New York City so they are used to really good sushi, and they LOVE this place. All of the waitstaff is attentive, friendly, and fun. Keep up the good work!

I’m probably biased because the first time I ever tried sushi in my life was here at Mr. Pi’s almost 12 years ago. Up until that point, the idea of eating raw fish completely terrified my young self. That being said, if ever there was a more perfect place for the sushi noob to explore the wonders of the sea, it’s Mr. Pi’s. All I can do is thank God Almighty that I discovered it here and not some random place that might have given me a lackluster experience and/or turned me off of it entirely. In the years since, I’ve developed quite a palette for sushi(I know my maki from my nigiri from my sashimi) so let’s make one thing clear… When you come to Mr. Pi’s, YOUORDERTHESPECIALROLLS! The regular rolls and entrees are all good too, but here it really is about the special rolls. When I’m in the mood to be a sushi purist, I go elsewhere because I know by now that isn’t their area of expertise… and that’s perfectly fine! Now, to the food! The rolls are so inventive and unique and the fish is always fresh. I’ve tried all of them by now, but my absolute favorites are the Kiwi and the Out of Control roll. VCR is also amazing along with Red Knight, Splash, and Snow. You honestly can’t go wrong with any of them. In the apps, Volcano is a must! I also really love their seaweed salad and asparagus wrapped in salmon. My mom doesn’t eat sushi so whenever we come here her staples are the various teriyakis which she always enjoys. Finally, the vanilla fried ice cream for dessert is the perfect cherry on top of a meal here. You know I actually blame Mr. Pi’s for ruining me because they’ve made it so difficult for me to enjoy sushi anywhere else. I’m so critical of other establishments now. Living in close proximity to NYC, I’ve eaten at some of the best sushi restaurants the city has to offer and I can honestly say Mr. Pi’s is just as good as any of them. Its price point is also comparable to New York so that can be a hard pill for some folks in Jersey to swallow. When you taste the food though, you realize they can justify the high prices because of the high quality of the product. Every time I take someone new to Mr. Pi’s they immediately become a fan, much like 18 year old me did on my first visit. All I can say to Mr. Pi is ‘Thank you’. Thank you for years of imaginative dishes, thank you for consistency, and most of all thank you for creating a lifelong love of sushi in me.

In this tiny jerZ suburban town, in this tiny strip mall(3 stores?!), you will find a clutch(ugh) sushi spot. It’s tiny, gets packed with asians/whiteys, has really friendly servers and has an area to take your stinky shoes off and eat on your knees… Japanese-style. The unagi roll was deelish, VCR roll was waaaaay to sweet but the ika maru yaki(grilled bbq squid)…holy shit… it was Yakitori Taisho/Yo Taisho-St.Mark’s Place-quality. Wow, izakaya… in the burbs? BTW, it’s called Mr. Pi as in «Pie» or 3.14…(Pi) NOT Mr. «pee». Don’t try and be funny.

This place in tiny. And absolutely packed on Friday night. You know what it means, right? Good food!!! Japanese décor, separate no-shoes area with low tables, simple and casual. Shumai were piping hot, freshly made.(Did I eat all of them or did I share one or two? Yum!) Rolls are fantastic. V.C.R. roll is huge… A bit heavy on filling(breadcrumbs?) and sauce, but good. «Pi squared» roll(insert math symbol here, Unilocal would not let me post it, pfft) is absolutely delicious. Love that eel. Love that name, too. There is something in those rolls… addictive! But, I am saving the best for last. Broiled squid(Ika Maru Yaki). OMFG. Sooo good. Why I never tried it before? That along worth coming back for. No alcohol here, but green tea is perfect to round up a good meal. Let’s go again!
