I have been a HUGE fan of Bills since I started coming here in the 60’s. As an adult I have lived around the country and always find myself measuring other BBQ joints against Bills… no one compares. I REALLY wish they would ship their pork and sauce! It doesn’t have quite the charm of the original building and it doesn’t taste quite the same as it originally did but it’s still a must have.

Bills BBQ has moved to a new location with a drive thru along the main drag now. I’m here on business and so we go out a lot. I can say this bbq was great and not to messy. I had the pulled pork sandwich with slaw, fries, and a drink. Price was decent for a bbq joint and I did see they have a breakfast menu with an item called to triple bypass. Very cool lil joint with great food for the area.

I drove over the Ohio River from Paducah after hearing about this place on the morning news. I had the SMOKEDHAM sandwich, which is pulled – not sliced. The meat was a deep, rich red color. The smoke was not over powering. I added the hot BBQ sauce, which was NOT over the top. Miranda at the counter was sassy and cute. Bill and his son Chad were ready to talk about their food. Great, friendly, clean place to grab lunch. The locals love this place.

We did not like Bill’s BBQ. The staff was very friendly but the food was not so good. We heard about his famous pulled pork sandwich so we ordered that. The pork is in a container on a cutting board right behind the ordering counter — just sitting there, at room temperature. He then fresh chopped the pork, asked how spicy we wanted the sauce and served it to us on a bun. The pork was cold. I am glad we did not get sick from eating meat that was not kept in a frig or kept hot before serving. We would not recommend eating here.

OINK! OINK! OINK! The best little find on the Ohio River !!! Who would of thought the most amazing pulled pork sandwich would be found in Superman’s hometown of Metropolis? Yes, I was worried as we drove searching for Bill’s BBQ(we passed the Daily Planet and I think I saw Jimmy Olsen) … But then we found a clean, well lit place with none other than Bill behind the counter who PULLSTHEPORK for each individual sandwich. The pulled BBQ pork was incredibly tender, moist, and very juicy. This is how pulled pork should taste!!! It was lightly sauced in the kitchen and then you can add your own at the table. Dip or cover your pulled Q in the sauce and your taste buds will be rocketed away to orbit the planet euphoria! Man, was this super(get it? Super, man). The buns had a lot to be desired… cheap tasteless wonder bread type buns… I forgive them because the pork and slaw were OINKingly incredible!

These juicy little piggies were perfection! What an amazing surprise find while passing through to take pics with Superman!!! We were looking for lunch in town before heading down to Paducah, our next stop on our roadtrip vacation. My husband pulled up his trusty GPS and Bill’s was the first to come up-we can’t say no to BBQ. We also have a rule that we don’t eat at places we have at home on the road as well. Bill’s does have a drive thru, but these sandwiches are so juicy you probably shouldn’t try to eat and drive. We both got the pork sandwich combos-this pork was tender & juicy with a very light sauce. Most bbq joints we’ve been to will use the sauce to moisten up a dry pulled pork. Bill does not need to use sauce for anything except a wee bit of spice. We also split the cole slaw as a side ad we were not disappointed-perfect slaw to dressing ratio. The price is right too-just $ 6 gets you a pork sandwich, fries, & a fountain drink. Bill was behind the counter & friendly as could be-this place was super busy with a lunchtime rush & he took the time to chat a tiny bit when we tanked him for such a great lunch. Will definitely be sending people there and making a trip back whenever we’re in the area!

Great, great place. After seeing some of the reviews, I expected a «restaurant,» but imagine my surprise to find an establishment about the size of a phone booth, with a very friendly Bill standing behind the counter. The barbecue itself was perfect; sweet, smoky, and moist, though the sauce was watery and left a little to be desired(and wasn’t particularly hot). The smoked ham was utterly delicious, even if it was a little dry. Bill and his late-lunch regular customer were very entertaining in their banter and comments on the stock market, and the place felt like home even though I’d never been to Metropolis before. When I return, as I will, I plan on going earlier in the day to catch more of the regulars(whose names and phone numbers are all written on the wall) give each other grief. That floor show would probably be almost as good as the food — which would be saying quite a bit. WELL worth the long trip to Metropolis.
