Prompt and courteous delivery. Not the best food around, but I like them. They do really well with the small establishment they have.

I love steak and cheese sandwiches, but I always have trouble finding a good one. I moved to Methuen about a month ago and have tried a few places. So far, I have been sorely disappointed… until tonight. I ordered a steak and cheese, extra cheese, peppers and onion, on a syrian wrap from Oakland Ave. It was awesome. Super thin and chopped, fresh and delicious. I am very, very happy to have found this place!

After reading previous reviews and looking at the menu, I was excited to order from here, so much so I was considering ordering lunch and a dinner for later. I called in, but had no one pick up the first time. On the second call, I was put on hold almost immediately. I was on hold for at least 10 minutes, listening to the pre-recorded loop mentioning various deals, and explainjng their service area, which it says is Methuen, Lawrence, and southern Salem. I was ordering from Salem, right off exit 1, but when I was taken off hold, I was told they were unwilling to deliver to me. In the end, I cannot comment on their food, only the wasted time of both me and the staff who bothered to put me on hold before telling me they wouldn’t take my order. Overall bad business practice. I suggest stating your delivery area more clearly on the website if a 3.5 mile drive to an area you say you serve is too far.

Upon arriving at Oakland Pizza I was forced to park in a small 2 car driveway/parking lot behind the pizza place but that wasn’t the issue. Before walking into the establishment I observed grease leaking down the side of the building from an oven vent and it was pooled on the sidewalk. I almost didn’t go in but felt I’d give it a shot because it had so many good reviews. I ordered a Chicken Tender sub and a slice of pizza. I saw the woman who made my sub walk to the back room and emerge with a handful of dripping chicken. I prayed it was for another order and not mine. Moments later the guy at the counter put a customer on hold so he could retrieve a wilted head of lettuce which he began peeling at the counter. After he peeled the lettuce he then answered the phone and took an order. The slice of pizza I got was ok but it wasn’t anything worth going back for but my problem is the sandwich. There was maybe 4 small slices of chicken(dripping) and then wilted lettuce. I added cheese to my sandwich which was an up charge of a dollar. They didn’t put cheese on it. I ate a third of the sub and threw it out. It was tasteless. I should have just gone to subway.

I’ve always loved the chicken fingers here, and have gone here sporadically for the past 10 years. Family came up to visit this week and chose this place due to its proximity, but were pleasantly surprised! Chicken fingers are actually better than ever: fresh white meat chicken, no gristle or weird formed parts. Batter is crisp and light. Fries are delicious steak fries now, crispy enough outside and soft fluffy potato in the center. We also got a couple of large cheese pizzas(how could we not at $ 7.99 for a large?) and they were excellent too. Crust was crispy, sauce perfect and cheese melted softly on top. Not greasy or dried out, definitely fresh and delicious. They also have kids meals now, for $ 4.99 we got large styrofoam clamshell filled with fries and 3 or 4 large fresh chicken fingers. Made 2 or 3 meals each for the kids, they could’t finish them in one sitting. I wonder… is there new ownership? Was good before but is even better now. My only complaint would be this: Please fix your A/C! The poor young girl working at the counter must have been about to melt! Way too hot in there with the ovens and no A/C. Hopefully that was just a temporary issue. We’ll be back again, and we’ll recommend to anyone in the area.

Oakland Ave has the best, I mean absolute best, chicken fingers in the world… or at least Methuen. The chicken is all hand breaded and it’s outstanding. The steak and cheese and Italian subs are also really good. Though the pizza tastes just like any other pizza in the area(thats a compliment), the prices are really cheap. I recommend take-out, because there are only 3 booths.

Oakland Ave Pizza & Subs is a little neighborhood eatery located across the street from Thwaite’s Market. There is a lack of onstreet parking nearby and only 2 very tight parking spots behind this pizza place, one space already occupied by staff. The place itself is pretty old school with only one booth and a takeout counter, lighted menu boards, beverage cooler, and a freezer stocked with frozen treats. The menu offerings here include pizza, subs, salads, appetizers, seafood, and pasta at fair prices. They also sell ice cream bars, candy bars and snacks too. Currently, they have 3−3−3 deal which is 3 small one topping pizzas for $ 3.33 each and they also have churros too. I decided to stop here for a quick bite for lunch over the weekend. I ordered a large Chicken Cutlet Sub($ 5.29) with lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, and American cheese(add 50 cents). The sub took about 10 minutes to be ready and there were no other customers present. The guy in the kitchen did apologize for the wait, which was actually no biggie since I’ve been to other places with longer waits. The chicken cutlet sub tasted pretty decent, which had the standard breaded white meat chicken patties and condiments, but I didn’t care for the bread used. The white sub roll used was on the soft side with similar texture to untoasted Wonder Bread. I do enjoy my sub rolls on the soft side, but dense and chewy as well, like the Fantini sub rolls used at other local sub shops. If I happen to be in the area again, and there’s parking available, I will have to give the pizza a try. The 3−3−3 deal for pizza sounds pretty good already.
