Extremely disappointing experience. We lived in an older house, in a historic district, with bad windows. I called LAS and they sent a salesman to talk with us. I emphasized the HDLC guidelines and the salesman’s response was«our windows comply with local code.» We ordered eight windows, paid a deposit and contacted HDLC for a COA permit. HDLC told us LAS windows do not comply with HDLC code(they lack«internal muntins»). We called the LAS manager and their response was essentially«too bad.» We pursued a possibility of installing the windows with special approval from HDLC but the city told us if the windows weren’t approved, they’d need to be replaced with the old windows. Only two of our eight windows were visible from the street and therefore within HDLC jurisdiction. We called the LAS manager and requested a refund for the two non-compliant windows. At first we were snubbed. Eventually we were offered a partial refund. Finally, after SIXWEEKS of arguing with the manager we were refunded the cost of two windows. The install and product are fine — but the process was such a pain. LAS: if all you produce is shutters and windows, and your company is based in SELA, why aren’t you aware of local code and regulations? Vast swaths of New Orleans fall under HDLC guidelines yet once we’d paid our deposit, y’all seemed to have no knowledge whatsoever of those requirements. How hard could it be to communicate with HDLC and design products compliant with local standards? P. S. This is petty but I do want to add, a week after we had our windows installed I was driving down Esplanade toward City Park. I was driving behind an LAS install truck and their driver was doing five m.p.h. and leaning out the window cat-calling a female runner who was clearly not interested. What a disgusting and disrespectful way to behave.
