Whenever I come to New Orleans I try to make it out to Kosher Cajun at least once. They have authentic and kosher deli sandwiches and many other traditional Jewish delicacies. Pricey, but true kosher tends to cost, and it is worth it. My fave is the«J&N» combined corned beef and pastrami with cole slaw on rye(of course — do NOT ask for your deli sandwich on white bread as that would be a SCHANDE) They have a great catering service which includes entire Passover Seder meals. And they are conveniently situated on the way to the airport which will evoke jealous looks from your Southwest fellow passengers when you unwrap that great looking sandwich. On the slightly minus side, their sandwiches have gotten somewhat thinner over the years, and they really need to put the pickle in a zip loc bag for to go orders. On the plus side they have a grocery/general store with a complete line of Jewish food, kosher wines, and many other items. All told, you would be hard pressed to find a better kosher deli outside of the northeastern US. We certainly have nothing likenitnon Southern California.

I have been craving a bagel with lox since I was pregnant! Today I finally had the time to venture out and grab one! Although, I didn’t have time to dine in I placed an order for pick up. When I ran in to grab my sandwich I was surprised to see all the cute do dads to purchase! I can’t wait to dine in and browse! My bagel did not disappoint! Absolutely delicious!!!

I have driven by this restaurant and grocery on several occasions, never thinking to come in. I was wrong for not having stopped in to look around. There is a lack of such a specialty in the area, and I did not think that there was such a great place local. You come in, and order at the counter. There is a menu on the wall and a printed menu. This is a kosher deli. As in Jewish kosher. That is the reason for no cheese on the meat sandwiches, and for them not being open on Saturday. In a world where everyone seems to be into conformity, it is comforting that they stand by their principles. There are well stocked shelves as for the grocery portion, again catering to the specified audience. I had the Corned beef on toasted rye, and ate my lunch there. The pickles tasted as if they were home-brined and were just the right amount of sweet. The dining area was very neat and clean, the staff was friendly, even as the place filled to the brim for lunch. I did get some cookies that my paternal grandmother shared on the rare occasion we visited when I was a child. I do look forward to coming back in the future and am grateful that I came in today.

It feels kinda strange to write a review of a place I’ve never stepped foot in, but I recently ate food from KC and so I feel I have a right to write. Hehe. While laid up at home after having surgery on my Achilles tendon, my girlfriend’s grandmother was incredibly sweet and ordered dinner for my whole family from Kosher Cajun. They delivered it, we all ate, and life was good. As a Southern Jew, I know about matzo balls. Kosher Cajun knows matzo balls too. Theirs were delicious — light and fluffy and floating in a salty chicken broth. Honestly, it was all I ate for the first couple of days. Also sampled: steamed veggies, roasted chicken, rosemary potatoes. I liked it all, though nothing could touch that soup. When I’m a bit more mobile, I’ll head in for a face-to-face. But it was so nice that they delivered and helped me to feel better.

a wonderful, authentic delicatessen in Jefferson Parish. i’m not sure why«Cajun» is in the name — maybe its there to appeal to the locals who otherwise may be intimidated by a kosher joint that advertises knishes and is closed on Saturdays… they did appear to have the standard red beans & rice and a «shrimp»(obviously some sort of fish) po-boy offering. outside of that, nothing very Cajun/Creole about this spot that i could discern. besides the Saints memorabilia hung on the walls, this place is way more Lower East Side than it is Southern Louisiana. note: whoever was haggling over the chicken at the counter was doing so in a thick Bronx accent… or wait, was that maybe Chalmette? ;-) i’ve only been in once, and i ended up having an extremely competent reuben sandwich — it came with a couple of half-sour pickles on the side, which are a rarity around here. supremely delicious. next time i think i’m going to go for the corned beef & pastrami on rye and a cup of matzo ball soup. the counter service struck me as very matter-of-fact, no bullshit, yet courteous. the lady casually waved me off and told me to come back and pay once i’d finished my meal. i was overall impressed with her demeanor and handling of her customers, most of which appeared to be regulars, outside of myself. that will change soon enough, because this is probably my new go-to lunch spot. 5⁄5

After a four year hiatus from my last review I came back after my friend Brian O. shared with me some goodies from Kosher Cajun. I ordered the rueben and a cup of matzo ball soup for lunch. The soup was good the reuben was just ok but forgetting cheese on meat isn’t kosher I should have just ordered a corned beef on rye. The soup was excellent the rueben was ok, the meat itself was excellent the rest was just a waste because it was taking away from the taste on the meat. Overall it was a good lunch. I happened to be in right before Rosh Hashanah so I picked up a great challa bread and some white fish salad that I eat with crackers as a great snack. If your in the area or looking for authentic jewish cuisine this is your spot, just not great if your used to americanized deli cuisine. Because its all kosher btw its not cheap, except for the baked goods.

I stopped in here Sunday and got some lunch to go. Friendly little deli atmosphere with a small market in back as well. The Matzo Ball Soup was very good. The Broccoli Knish was alright, but I don’t think I would get it again. The J&N special sandwich(corned beef and pastrami) was very good.(I chose the Challah bread instead of Rye and asked for no Horseradish). It’s not a place where I would eat too often, but I would definitely go back if I had the craving for that particular food. Nice to know there is a New York deli style place right here in Metairie. The staff was very friendly.

Found this place when I was craving a real deli sandwich by my work in Metairie. I had a bagel with cream cheese and lox that made me very happy. The store inside has some unique offerings and the specials and Jewish fare looked authentic and good coming out for take-out orders. Worth a try for a little taste of New York.

I am hesitant to give Kosher Cajun 2 stars… No option for 1 ½ … I went in have what I thought was going to be a really good Reuben, well they have spoiled that for me now… Very disappointing after reading all the good reviews this place has got… My sandwich was Luke warm at best. bland. and the coleslaw well not that good… I’ve had a better Reuben a chain restaurants in the past… And for less money. This place is not worth it.

My wife and I were craving a bagel with lox and tried this place one morning. It satisfied our craving and was pretty good but was not out of this world good! They use parve cream cheese instead of regular cream cheese. Since there is a lack of bagelry’s here in Metairie we will be back in the future!

I really like this little Deli. They have an awesome Pastrami on Rye. My most recent visit I had a Reuben and it was great. They serve their sandwiches with a side of pickles. If you order fries they give you a ton. Everyone is very friendly and make you feel at home. Stop in for a great sandwich.

Been shopping at this great deli for a long time — you can find kosher stuff that you will not find anywhere else — I am a bagel fiend and this is the ONLY place I can get good NYC bagels — plus lots of shmeer, Israeli food products and other interesting items. Good lunch is served too — lox and bagels; rye and chicken livers; and much more. Eat in– take out. And the staff quickly are your best friends!

Dreidel Dreidel Dreidel I made you out of clay Dreidel Dreidel Dreidel with Dreidel I will play 2nd verse same as the first Yes I just sang the South Park dreidel song, It could be worse I could have sang the Hanukkah song from Adam Sandler. This is the extent of my knowledge of the Jewish faith. I always get confused with the whole Jewish thing. Is it a religion or a nationality? I mean we eat food from countries not religions so how does a Kosher deli fit in to this? Until 5 years ago I thought Kosher was a brand of dill pickle. My ignorance on this topic has gone on long enough so let’s get on with the review. I took my kids here about a week ago because I wanted a non po-boy sammich. We don’t have many real deli’s in Nola so I figured we’d try this out. There is always Stein’s but when you have kids in Metairie, it’s nice to not have to drive all the way Uptown. I got a Reuben and it was the perfect sized portion. It wasn’t too big which was a good thing. I’ve been to a few NY deli’s and trying to fit on of those Reuben’s in your mouth can be a challenge. One of my munchkins got a hamburger. No cheese, cheese isn’t Kosher apparently. And my other kid got a got a Coney Island hot dog minus the mustard and saurkraut. Picky kids. The people were super nice, the atmosphere is very deli-esque with a lot of cool sports memorabilia and a small Jewish grocery store. They have a lot of other things on the menu besides deli items as well. They have jambalaya, red beans, and even lamb chops! I will definitely go back when I need my deli fix. I may even try some matzoh ball soup but I definitely will be singing the Dreidel song in my head because I am that immature.

Considering our former Sheriff was known as the Chinese Cajun Cowboy, having a Kosher Cajun NY Deli is about par for course around here. Honestly, I’ll pass on the Cajun food, I get that all over the place. I want the NY Deli style food. Yes, if you need to keep kosher this is a great place to get your Cajun fix. I decided to have a bagel with lox and cream cheese, dressed with red onions, lettuce, and capers for dinner with a cup of matzoh ball soup. The soup was delicious, perfect way to start a meal. My bagel was piled high with lox. Seriously, tons of it. I’m definitely comping back for another bagel in the(hopefully) near future.

Excellent deli food in New Orleans! Very casual and tasty! Stopped in during a business trip and tried their soup(good) and their corned beef and pastrami(excellent). They have a fully stocked deli, outstanding assortment of Dr. Browns sodas(gotta try a Crème Soda), and good pricing. Good selection of kosher products, and very helpful and friendly staff.

With all the fancy pants cafes around town, I appreciate this traditional style deli. They have grilled and fried items in addition to sandwiches. There is plenty of seating to enjoy your meal. The prices are consistent with nearby competition(which is higher than it should be in my opinion). $ 11 for a sandwich and a can of soda. I saw that they have one of my favorite sandwiches, the Rachel(points for having that on the menu!). The amount and ratio of ingredients was perfect. The sandwich would have been better if it was grilled or pressed as apposed to just toasting the bread. It comes with a fresh pickle which wasn’t pickled quite enough but still tasty. I’d definitely go back.

This place is definitely still open and still where it has always been. They have a good selection of kosher grocery products and a deli with a decent selection of typical Jewish deli options. They are very strict about the«kosher» part and won’t even make a sandwich for you unkosher by putting cheese on your pastrami sandwich so don’t bother asking. The same applies to their hamburger as you won’t get a cheeseburger here and the burger is «ok» but it is a bit dry and for the price I would MUCH prefer a Yo Mamma’s burger! They do give you a really large order of fries with all the grill items like the burger that come with fries. So even though it is a bit pricey for what you get they can charge a preimium as it is one of the few places in the area that is kosher and that carries many of the items they sell. For my deli needs I typically go to Martin’s Wine Cellar but if I’m in a rush and in the area this place can do the trick as they also have some decent soup… I just often feel some pain in my wallet after a meal here.
