Food was good but unfortunately that was about it. We came here on a Friday night and the place was packed with a long line and wait. I would have hoped this was the reason for the slow service but I can’t tell you how many times I counted our server standing by the pos system chatting with other employees and not waiting on his tables. Multiple tables in our section took notice and were upset about his lack of work or effort. Drinks were rarely refilled and usually rook two times of asking to have them. When the food came out 3 of the 5 got their meals and 2 had to wait another 10 minutes for theirs. This made no sense at all and the 3 that waited for the others food had their food go cold. Both fajitas were missing the melted butter and had to be asked if they still offered it. Our waiter did not bring us our food so maybe this was the problem? He was too busy talking with other waiters. I won’t be returning here anytime soon. I’d rather go to the Mexican restaurant a couple doors down.

This on the border is or was one of my favorite places. I went to otb on Tuesday got a nice cheese covered hair in my Queso. On shit happens. Went back today got fajitas this time well the chicken wasn’t done if it was then I don’t have the teeth to chew it. The fajitas always come out sizzling not today the tortillas where Luke warm. Everyone walk by looked at the plate half eaten. Nobody ask if something was wrong with it. Idk what is up with this place was very good at one time. Gone down the drain. But the bartenders are still Great. Can’t beat Christie and Jeff. They always get 5 stars.

The day after, I decided to submit feedback on On The Border’s website. I got a phone call from the GM about 5 hours later stating that she did talk to Jeff about the incident and he apologized and claimed that he had«left my change sitting on the bar counter by the register.» This makes no sense. Why wouldn’t he just bring my change when he brought my friend her check? There is no room for making a mistake here. Either the GM is trying to cover the ass of her employee or she’s very naïve. As compensation she sent me an apologetic letter and coupons equivalent to $ 15.

Not a big fan of On the Border because I don’t like Tex-Mex but this place was picked as a birthday celebration so I thought I would make due but the food was actually tasty.

Happy hour is great and inexpensive. I recommend ordering house margaritas and queso dip.

Sat at the bar and service was not great… took forever to get my order taken… ask for extra napkins… ended up getting them myself. Overall, I’ve had better service at restaurant bars.

Went 8pmish on Wednesday. Horrible experience. Quickly seated by friendly hostess. Requested both and got one. Place was about 40% seated(slow day). A male waiter introduced himself and took drink orders. A female waitress bright drinks, said the other guy was trying to steal our table and that she was our waitress now. Left after training our main order. We wanted to ask her for chips and salsa(none delivered to us) but we didn’t see her until after we got our food. We asked the person who delivered the dogs of we could have chips and salsa… they said it wasn’t ok that no one have is any, and they promptly brought us chips and salsa. The food was subpar: brisket tacos had hide chunks of just fat(not fatty meat. … it was so noticeably different I could separate it out in my mouth and spot it out. Out of two brisket taboos I had four quarter diameter spheres of fat spit out. My wife said her chicken fajitas were mediocre. Our waitress checked on us a few times, but never refilled waters. The waitress also acknowledged the chips and salsa mistake and offered free sopapias. We declined and left. The overall experience was negative. Waiters fighting for tables(impacting patrons), forgetful &/or inattentive wait staff(no chips/salsa or drink refill), and low quality food at a price point that should command good food led to this assessment. We were excited about going at the start, and to quote my wife«This made my day worse»

OTB in Mesquite used to be mine and my daughters favorite place to eat but it seems like ever since they closed down for a few weeks a while back things are just not the same! We had lunch there last Saturday and sadly I told my girls that we are just going to have to find a new ‘favorite place” because I do not plan on returning. The service was slow(waiters were standing around talking), 2 of the 3 small plates they brought us were dirty and the quality of the food doesn’t seem as good as it used to be! So sad because we have been coming to this location for sixteen years and we used to love it!

Food was great! Came out quick maybe to quick. We didn’t have a chance to eat our appetizer before the food got to the table. Our waitress was not that great. No refill until we ordered desert and that took 20 mins to make a brownie Sunday. We had better service from this place in the past.

I don’t see how anybody could like this place the food is such low quality. One of the worst Mexican food places I have been to. Honestly there is no good Mexican food in mesquite which is sad bc I love Mexican food. I will stick to mi Cocina or mannys uptown. Way better.

On the border never disappoints with their food but this time our waitress Kimberly was spectacular. She was just the right amount of attentive and really knows her stuff. If every server was like her there would be world peace. Maybe I’m exaggerating. … but probably not. We are really happy right now.

Terrible service! We ordered margaritas on rocks got frozen then ordered app of queso and guacamole never received! Server wanted to talk to the two girls at table behind us more than taking care of customer. Won’t be back!

Been a long time going back BUTWELLWORTHIT. Service by the waiter who has been there over 10 years and Ultimate Fajitas were awesome. Nice lean beef, tender chicken, perfect seasoned pulled pork and four lightly seasoned shrimp! This trip was take out so it had steamed veggies that were really good

Came here today around 6:35pm with my mother and son. Was seated right away. That is the only part that went well! Keep in mind it was busy. My mother, my son, and I sat at our table for 25 mins without anyone coming by to greet us or ask if we needed anything. A random waiter came by and put chips and salsa on our table and that was it. We politely got up and was greeted by someone stating«have a good night» as we are leaving. As I was walking stated«No, not really wasn’t served» Needless to say we went home.

My best friend and I had lunch there with family. It was super hot, but we decided to eat on the patio Anyways. it was surprisingly cool with the breeze and the fans on the corners. Very pleasant! The queso was so good. Good portion sizes, we walked away with leftovers. I only have 2 complaints: the sopapillas were covered in cinnamon and sugar(hated that) and it was way too sweet, plus they gave you honey as well. Oooh! And they have several big screen TVs but only one TV controls the audio all over the restaurant. So you’re not hearing what you’re watching… Pretty silly to me.

Nice folks. Decent service. Good food. 30+ minutes from order to food seems pretty slow for a Monday night. Don’t go here if you’re on a schedule.

Yes, this place has the best food, and some of the best service. But when I write in a complaint about how aweful my experience is, I expect to hear back, so that’s why despite all of this, you are getting one star. Let me tell you about my freezing cold(well, 40degrees at the time) Saturday night. I arrive at 7, reserving a spot for 18 becuase they don’t allow reservations. Not to worry, the wait is only an hour. With no where to sit inside, my companions and I garnered mild hypothermia outside. One hour passes, yes, ONEFULLHOUR. Nothing. Another 15… no, 20. no wait, literally 30 minutes passes, yes, it takes approx 1 hour and 45 minutes to seat my party. At this time, instead of getting us on the patio(slightly enclosed with heaters at least) — we are forced to stand outside in the bitter cold. If everyone didn’t know where we were going, with 20 people, so we couldn’t really move, I assure you I would have. It was horrible. You should have allowed us in the patio area which was mostly clear, maybe fed us some chips while we waited. For gods sake, we were freezing our butts off. Furthermore, we went in, sat down, had a great, efficient server with one flaw. I ordered a cheese enchilada, no onions(vegetarian style) and for some reason instead of a standard red sauce I was given some kind of meat sauce. Oh my poor tastebuds had to endure that nastiness, but he replaced it with non-meat sauce cheese enchilada so fast I literally could not believe it. He really was the portrait of friendly efficiency. If only we hadn’t almost died waiting to be seated up front. Then I truly would have enjoyed this experience. I freaking love on the border, but dear lord… That wait was insane. It cannot help but blacken out my experience. Upon complaining in the survey I was given, I have heard nothing back about it not even an apology from this establishment.
