It is time for me to give credit where credit is due, and provide a review of Stilwell Pianos.
I am a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) based in Phoenix AZ, and I am qualified by training and experience to make this review of Stilwell Pianos — I am independent professional and not employed by Stilwell Pianos or any other piano dealership or manufacturer, and I make this review voluntarily in the interest of service to the piano industry and service to piano owners in general.
Michael Stilwell comes from a family heritage of piano technicians, and has a dedicated sense of integrity and service toward pianos. Although he is a technician himself, he chooses retail piano sales and service as his field of labor, and over the past several years, his dedication and energies have built his piano company into a significant presence in the world of retail piano sales. He vigorously seeks out good products to offer his customers, and he attends to the technical needs of these instruments better than most of his competitors. Michael is well-​known and liked in the technical community also, because of his knowledge about pianos and his attention to their technical needs. He offers full service to his clients including refinishing, moving, as well as regular services like tuning, and advanced technical work such as regulation and voicing. Stilwell Pianos does not provide the typical piano sales experience. They are not salesmen, they are men and woman who love music and who are there to help people like me find the perfect fit. They do not barter which I LOVE. Their prices are the lowest in town… I HAVE CHECKED. Don’t waist your time going anywhere else.

After (quite literally) years of searching for a piano, we finally found «the one» at Stilwell Pianos. We purchased our «well loved» Baldwin under somewhat of an unusual circumstance — she was still in refurbishment and was, therefore, not ready to come home. However, the refurbishment went quickly, we were frequently updated with pictures and info, our questions were answered quite honestly, and we always felt welcome to drop in anytime. Everyone at Stilwell was knowledgeable, friendly, and easy to work with. We never felt pressured to purchase; they care about their customers and their work. We hired their recommended mover, who was friendly, prompt, and very careful with our wood floors and our piano. We also hired their recommended tuner, who was also friendly, professional, and honest — we will be calling him back for regular maintenance. To be honest, we wouldn’t recommend anyone but Stilwell Piano!

We did not purchase our piano from Stilwell but we did hire them to tune our upright. We were very impressed with their services — the technician was prompt, efficient, and gave his input on small repairs we could eventually consider for our piano. Also reasonably priced for tuning/​upkeep. I am sure we will be calling them again for regular maintenance.

I bought a piano at Stilwell Pianos in December. My wife and I couldn’t be happier with our purchase. We wanted a nice piano, but couldn’t pay full price for a brand new one. A high quality, well tended, used piano is half the price, but just about as good. I also appreciated the feeling of the showroom. I never felt like I was being sold anything. (which I hate) My questions were honestly and respectfully answered. I would recommend Stilwell to anyone who wants a piano, but hasn’t won the lottery.
