U-Haul Moving & Storage of Merrillville

Absolutely terrible service from this place. My parents used them for storage and also for their UHAUL truck that they attached to their Jeep with a hitch.
The problem with the storage here is that their lot is a very small and cramped space that people can not come in and out of without getting stuck. Also, it is much more packed than any other storage facility might be because there are UHAUL trucks being parked and dropped off at all times of day. That in itself is another problem: there are no designated drop off spots for UHAUL trucks, so people literally drop off their trucks in front of the gate, blocking entry for people trying to get through the gate to access their storage units. I have witnessed this happen at least 3 times here. It is frustrating when we can’t even get through the front gate!
Secondly, their parking allows for maybe 3 or 4 cars total. Not very much room there. I drive a Blazer and if I try parking in one of their parking spaces, I will get blocked in by trucks being dropped off and cars trying to enter the front gate behind me. I always have to park my Blazer on the grass across from the parking lot, near US 30.
The next problem we had was when my parents were moving out on a Monday and their UHAUL was paid for up until that Friday before. My parents asked if they should pay for the next 3 days so they can have the storage unit til Monday. UHAUL swore up and down that there is a 3 day grace period, meaning that they did not have to pay for those 3 extra days, so they would be covered. When my parents arrived on Monday to move their things out, their space was locked up and had a red tag on it (which meant failure to pay). They tried to address this with the manager and told her how they were previously informed that they had a 3 day grace period. The manager then started arguing with them. She was completely rude and unprofessional. We will never do business with this location again.

Storage Unit Infested with Bugs! Three years ago, I moved all of my stuff out of my apartment in Crown Point into one of U-Haul’s climate controlled storage units. I recently found a way to get rid of the unit and as I was moving all of my stuff out, I noticed that it was infested with bugs! Not sure what kind, but does it matter? They look like bed bugs! U-​Haul will not respond to my calls or emails probably because the agreement I signed, I had selected the lowest insurance which excludes pest infestations. But 3 years @ $ 140/​mo. and now my stuff is completely worthless?
