Why does Albertsons always smell funky? I am a frequent shopper at Albertsons mainly because they are just down the street from my house. They are your basic grocery store with the standard food options and for that they get a an average review. The one thing I wish they had was more gluten free options. I feel that most other grocery stores have come privy to recent food/diet trends and adjusted there offerings to accommodate such but don’t see that much here. The other thing I wish they would address is the smell!!! For some reason it always smells funky in there, which is not the best atmosphere when you are shoping for food.

The«Kids Korner» shelf in their donut case may be my favorite square foot in all of Meridian, narrowly edging out spot in the Zamzows cage where, each spring, all the baby chicks huddle up together under the heat lamp. There’s a chance these dudes straight up care more about the donuts they put out than their peers at every other Albertsons in the universe. They pump out wacky varieties and load everything in that Kids Korner with enough candy and ridiculously bright sprinkles to simultaneously induce both seizures and diabetes. If dumping every loose bit of sugary detritus in the store onto those goofy kiddie donuts every morning isn’t the highlight of somebody’s day, then I have lost all faith in humanity. Along the same lines, there’s absolutely no good reason to make a croissant-shaped raised glazed thing and call it a «donut croissant,» but this supernarket bakery totally went for it anyway, and I love them for it. They’re donut people.
