This place is a little gem in Merced. I came here about a year ago to have a vintage wind-up watch repaired. It hadn’t worked for well over 30 years. It belonged to my great grandmother and it was given to me before my grandmother passed away. Ortega took such good care of my family heirloom. He even provided recommendations for watch bands and it came out beautifully. He restored life into a beautiful piece that had been lifeless for so long. Additionally, I also brought in another watch that had a band that was too long. He was able to shorten the band and only charged me for the vintage watch repair. Such a standup place. I will always go to Ortega’s for all my watch needs.

Had a watch that was my grandfathers, took it to a place in Madera and was told $ 90 to fix. Took it too Ortega and only paid $ 20 and the watch was fixed and cleaned! The watch was fixed in amazing time! Definitely my new watch shop! Will be back! Friendly service and definitely knows what he is doing!!!

Wow! All I wanted was a battery replaced and the watched cleaned. I dropped it off on Tuesday and was told the watch would be ready the following Thursday(9 days later) and would cost $ 55.00. I showed up and was informed the watch was not ready(something about being too busy with two other watches all week and«that’s just the way things go»). I said I’d take the watch some where else and the gentleman said he wouldn’t blame me for doing so. EXTREMELYDISSAPOINTED

I’m going to have to agree with all the other reviews on here that the guy who owns this place is extremely nice, considerate, & reliable. He actually even told me that the previous person that worked on my watch put in extra unnecessary springs(which he fixed) & also cleaned it when all I came in for was a new battery. Definitely come to him first for your watch needs!

I went to this shop today to have the case of an antique pocket watch opened because I needed the serial number to research the watch. What a lovely, sweet, knowledgeable, kind and helpful man. He has a genuine affinity and respect for time pieces which I found quite endearing. The brief interaction so made my day. It is uplifting to know that people like him exist in this world. I am seriously looking forward to my own watch breaking or needing a replacement battery soon just so I have a reason to go back.

Super nice man! Cute little shop across of BoA. I called at 4:30 to ask for their closing time and he was willing to wait for me. Asked him to put in a new battery in($ 6.50) and pop the back of another watch back on(n/c)… very reasonable pricing and friendly! Would come back for my other watches!

I brought my ten year old stainless steel watch in for polishing. It has had numerous fine scratches. He promised to have it done within a week. It came back stunningly close to new.

Mr. Ortega is a wonderful man. I brought 5 watches in for various repairs and he took care of business in no time at all. After he fixed my watches he gave my 4 year old daughter a magic show. Great guy, great service. Cash only.

By far the best watch place I have been to. I got a new watch and needed a couple links removed the band, was in an out in about 5 minutes. He charged me $ 5, which is pretty good, and said if I needed any put back in that I could just come back and he’d do it for free. Keep in mind he only takes cash, but there’s a Bank of America across the street. I dropped off my watch, walked across the street and grabbed cash, and he was done when I got back.

I brought Mr. Ortega 2 old wrist watches. These were the old fashion mechanical type. I had given up on having them repaired after several failed attempts years ago. I discussed the repairs and Mr. Ortega assured me he could bring to back to life. When I picked them up, what a surprise. Not only do both of them keep proper time, they look spectacular! He polished the metal, installed new crystals and added a new band. What a joy it was to be able to wear them again. One was my grandfather’s Lord Elgin and the other was my high school graduation gift(Whitnauer) from my Mom and Dad.

The service that Mr. Ortega provides is the example of perfection. Multiple other sources refused to work on my watch because of its age, but he took on the task and even drove to Modesto to get the right parts and kept the whole repair affordable to boot. I highly recommend this place to anybody who cares about great service and care from a professional. Mr. Ortega provides the level of old-school service that you are rarely lucky to find any more.

Another hole-in-the-wall shop that has great service and feels so old world like because you’re going to a specific artisan who knows how to do one thing REALLY well. When you’ve dropped your watch in water, or the battery is dead and you don’t know how to access it, or you’re tired of looking at broken watches, go here. Bring cash. It’s incredibly affordable. Seriously.
