When I first heard about this boutique, I was so excited to check it out. Staff is friendly and clothes are cute. Some of their items are on the pricey side, but they did have a sale section which didn’t seem to be priced super high. The ambiance is very quaint, so it makes a shoppers experience worth while!

This shop has a lot of really nice«vegan» handbags in tons of styles & colors, e.g., they look like leather but cost under $ 100 instead of the $ 200 – 300 the same bags would cost in leather.

Came upon HL&H today on my lunch break walk in downtown Merced. Located at the corner of 18th and Canal Streets is one of the very few botiques in the area. first, the employee which i believe she said she helped run the store with her girlfriend was so polite… even joking that she may hold my coffee i just picked up at the local café to keep warm. she was generous offering help if I needed anything. the merchandise(for men) was a mere blah for my taste. they are the brands you will find at nordstrom rack(7 diamonds, ben sherman, alternative apparel, true religion, lucky brand) but they all begin to look the same on the racks and what you will find folded on the table. not much of a selection in terms of variety… mostly thermals, mostly flannels, some dress shirts and denim(citizen of humanity, william rast and true religion) and some graphic tees that are similar to what you’ll find at either abercrombie or american eagle. do those stores still exist? i digress. scouring through what was there, not many sizes found in small or medium which was a bummer because i did actually see a thermal i did want to pick up. i do wish they had a bigger selection of alternative apparel because i do enjoy their henleys, but what was there was on the sales rack and the sizes were XL-XXL. the majority of the store is dedicated to women’s clothing which you can tell just by looking is a mash up of everything. from sweaters, to jeans, to crystal jewelry. i wish the owner best of luck, though they’ve been in business since 1944 so they obviously do not need the luck… maybe just a trip to san francisco to see what other retail stores look like, how they merchandise and styling would definitely benefit this shop.
