La Mesa

Absolutely the best Mexican cuisine in Lake County. Some of my perpetual favorites are the Molcajete, the Carnitas, the Chili Colorado, and the La Mesa Parrillada. The salsa and chips are always fresh and the food is spectacular; priced reasonably and in gut-​busting portions. The margaritas are full-​strength, no punches pulled using simple, proper, reposado tequila (no harsh fu-​fu silver tequila here unless you really want that) and come in sizes ranging from the hand-​sized mini goblet to the mighty and ridiculous monster fishbowl (pictured). As mentioned, it’s a family run place and the owner, Carlos is always welcoming with an attitude of «everyone leaves happy» that he takes very seriously. If you’re hungry for a great spot with some amazing food, La Mesa welcomes you.
