Three of the four in our party had the fish fry, the other is a meat eater and had the burger. From all accounts the burger looked great and the report was that it was very good. Unfortunately cant say the same for the fish, to the point where I asked to speak to the manager. I conveyed my concern that I actually bit into a piece of raw fish, not to mention that the french onion soup was luke warm and returned to the kitchen. While they were very apologetic and comp’d one meal it just doesnt make up for a spoiled evening. So that said… highly recommend the burgers

I’ve been searching for a really good fish fry within a short distance from home.(Any good fish fry I’ve found in my travels, so far, is in Upnorth, Wisconsin.) This week was A.J. O’Brady’s turn in my crucible. This is a bar/restaurant right in town, in fact, right across the street from the dammed Menomonee River«Falls» that makes the name of the town. There is some street parking but there is also a private lot immediately behind the building and a large municipal lot adjacent to Lime Kiln Park. I was unable to check into Unilocal as there is virtually no cell reception inside the building. There is available WiFi but I had no clue of how to get into it, and my less than tech-savvy waitress was no help, so I just gave up. One shouldn’t be on a cell phone in a restaurant, anyway! The front door is your entrée to the bar, with dollar bills stuck to the ceiling and a wall of large televisions that had every available sporting event on them. A long tapper is worth studying to see what popular brands are on tap. We had a very short wait for a table, in fact, hardly enough time to order a beer for an apéritif. The dining room is cozy and inviting, the walls are not lined with Irish memorabilia, it’s more like your favorite uncle’s living room. We ordered the cod fish fry, which comes with Guinness battered fish. We also order potato pancakes, a requirement for a good fish fry, IMHO. I ordered French Onion Soup, my dining mate ordered a salad. She consumed her salad quickly. Meanwhile, I waded through a thick platform of croutons, covered with a bit of cheese, into a canned beef broth with fresh onions. The onions were good, the rest of it was average. Dinner came quickly and the Guinness batter makes for a very interesting texture and taste that I enjoyed. The fish seemed dry to my taste, my dinner mate said hers was fine. The potato pancakes were too thick and as a result, slightly underdone. Not to my taste, mind you, but some people do seem to like them that way. The portions were just right, I wound up taking about half of mine home(but I don’t eat much, either.) I intend to revisit to sample other items on the menu as A.J. O’Brady’s has a good reputation for food. I’ll revisit this review at that time. As for the best fish fry? My search continues.

I am not sure if they changed chefs/owners but the last time we visited was horrible. Insult to injury, they would not honor our groupon because the manager said it was a «special» not a regular menu item. What?!? Ironically I have seen groupons for them and a photo of their FISHFRY is what is used to advertise. Horrible customer service. We will not return.

I had the fried whitefish. It was seasoned well and was very tasty. That and the service was great, but the French onion soup was very bland and almost tasted watered down. Sad day. The potato pancakes were extremely salty and very well done too. Another sad day. Lastly for serving a fish fry in Wisconsin there was no rye bread or bread basket!!! What the heck?! On the menu it said, «bread and Irish butter served while it lasts». I find it ridiculous that this sounds like a common occurrence, and don’t seem to care. If there are people there to eat, you make sure you have enough of whatever your supposed to. Sad to say there were more disappointments than not, so I don’t think we’ll be back.

Went back again for for $ 2 burger special… I would have given five stars but service was a bit lacking. Food is always great. We were seated immediately, waitress was prompt on the onset, but was inattentive after. I had one drink, but was never asked if I wanted another till we were ready for bill. Getting bill paid took longer than getting our food. I know it got busier, but it seemed that servers were trying to service everyone at same time. I will continue to frequent AJ’s, but maybe these need to be addressed.

Those that have been to Ireland will admit that this Irish Pub has the feel of a Dublin Pub! LOVE The Burgers & Their Corned Beef Pasta Dish! Try the signature Big O’Brady’s Cocktail, you’ll be hooked!

A.J. O’Brady’s has a great Irish pub atmosphere. They keep an old wood-burning stove going during the winter. I’ve only ever had their burgers, which are medium-sized and very good. The menu is kid-friendly. Menomonee Falls is a bit lean on the mom-and-pop eateries(although it’s drowning in chains), and A.J. O’Brady’s is probably your best option.

Good food, decent prices and a very friendly staff. Couldn’t ask for much more. Their fish fry is very good for what you get.

I don’t think it was a good night when we were in. Food and service was both just ok but I would definitely try it again. It’s got a cool vibe to it.

Went with a group of friends on a Wednesday trivia night for a quick bite and a few drinks. The burgers, Reuben’s, wraps and fries and rings everyone had were really good and generously sized enough for lunch the following day. The grilled cheese with a yummy homemade tomato soup for dipping was amazing on a breezy, drizzly, overall dismal October evening! Pleasantly surprised how good all of the food was! Trivia players were a rather cliquey group of people keeping the bartenders on their toes replenishing their waters.

This is my third time at AJ’s while partaking on a little quest called«the best fish fry in Wisconsin.» And I have to say I think I’ve found it. The atmosphere of AJ’s is somewhat odd. It’s louder than it should be and the fact that the bar takes up 60% of it is at the slightest alarming. But the food makes up for the lackluster décor. First of all the fact that you have three choices about what kind of fish you want is a great start. Then they compliment that with your choice of three sides. Even better. I know the fish fry is something Wisconsinites hold close to their heart and I’d love to hear your comments. But as long as AJ’s keeps making their fish fry I’ll keep on coming.

Solid fish fry, Irish nachos, corned beef and hamburgers… at reasonable prices make this the best bar/restaurant in the Falls. It’s a great place to watch a game or just relax with family. It can be overly busy/crowded due to its popularity but I’ll take that problem any day. The staff is attentive and does their best to keep up. Keep up the great work! We need more places like AJ O’Brady’s!

Ah yes, home cooking. My Ma’s a great Italian cook. pasta, sauce, lasagna, garlic beans or broccoli, pizza. Only thing is… she couldn’t cook steak(sorry Ma), always tough, choosing a poor cut of meat, lots of grizzle, in her defense she bought what we could afford. My steak at O’Brady’s reminded me of Ma’s home cooked steak. Went to AJ’s for Fathers Day. Was there a month ago and had a really great burger. thought I’d try the steak, their 12 oz. Black and Blue($ 17.49 + $ 1.00 for mushrooms and onions) certified Angus beef New York strip. My daughter ordered the Drunken Irishman($ 18.49), also a NY strip(med. rare). Both were tough, not tasty, complete with grizzle and fat. Her’s was ¼ fat and grizzle. When she was done her plate looked like she didn’t finish her meal. The waitress paused when she took the plate away but did not want to ask, «how was the steak». I will go back to AJ’s but never for steak. I should have known better, it’s a local bar/restaurant, not known for their steak. So even though this is not a flattering review I would still recommend for hamburgers… just don’t order a steak!

Great for what it is, a local suburban bar. Given this is so close to home I get here more often than I would if I had to travel. In the Falls its hard to find a bar that’s clean and doesn’t give off that terrible townie feel to it. Most nights AJs avoids this; and that alone makes them the best place in the area. The crowds vary greatly in age and a few nights a week Tues/Fri/Sat this place can be jam packed around dinner time giving a wait for seating. They have daily specials(Tues is $ 1 burgers) that are a pretty good deal with the food being slightly elevated bar fare with an Irish twist to it. The Friday fish fry is solid and I drop in for it frequently. The burgers are large and typically good. The ruebens are good, but don’t hold a candle to McBob’s. The biggest issue I have here is the inconsistency in the service. They’ve gone through a few management changes and staff churn with it. Sometimes the service is great, sometimes a bit slow and inattentive. The main bar has a sports bar theme with flat screens lining the walls. They play most local football and baseball games as well as a soccer following. Parking is available on street as well as in a private lot behind the building. On the busy nights these will fill up and additional parking is available in a city lot behind the bank across the street.

You can’t go wrong with this place. However there is nothing great about this place either. the staff is very friendly and the place is quite nice. I have had brunch here which deserves a 4. however their lunches are pretty bland. tried the fish fry(which is $ 16+._) kinda pricy for a lunch I would say. definitely a nice place to have a beer and watch a game in a calm setting.

Looking for lunch while out of town on a weekend, we happened into A J O’Brady’s. The décor was simple — no collectibles from Ireland lining shelves and walls, just a cozy Wisconsin tavern with a wall o’ large TVs. I selected the Limerick sandwich — mixed greens on juicy chicken breast topped with Irish cheddar cheese and Guinness mustard on a soft pretzel bun. I couldn’t taste the mustard sauce, I wonder if it was forgotten, or just soaked in so I ordered a side of that, which was good. The sandwich was served with homemade chips. I noticed that the bar did have appropriate logoed beer glasses for the beer they served: Smithwick, Guinness and Miller Lite, but didn’t appear to be particular about which glass they served the beer in as both of our Miller Lites were served in other branded glasses. No worries, the beer tasted fine! The bartender who waited on us was friendly and checked in with us often enough to keep us happy but not so much as to be bothersome. I did notice some good specials posted on the wall for various nights. If I was nearby, I’m sure I would be back to take advantage of those!

A few of us schlepped up from the flatlands to try A.J. O’Brady’s fish fry. A word to the wise is to call ahead for reservations on Friday night, we were glad that we did; the place was totally packed. Although the fish that night was a type that I had never heard of– it was flavorful and fried in a tasty batter(you can also order the fish baked/broiled without batter). It was nice to have a choice of 5 different types of potatoes rather than just your standard fries. Of course the dinner comes with home made cole slaw(it was somewhat on the bland side but seemed freshly made). Overall a great experience and easy on the wallet. My only complaint was the people at the table next to us had 2 out of control pre-schoolers which was not fun to listen to them screaming during most of our dinner. This was totally not the fault of the establishment; by and large children that age don’t want to endure sit-down dining. Not sure why certain parents don’t «get it»?

We stopped in for the live trivia on Sunday. This place was easy to find with the Irish flag out front. Plenty of parking out back behind. We were quickly welcomed and seated at a nice table and found good competition here. We were tied for first at the half and came in last by the end of the game. The food was plenty hot although the portions seem small for the price. No complaints as our server was attentive and bright. The bloody Marys were pretty good. 5.00 each. Bottle beers were 3.00. The announcer came to chit chat with the table after the trivia he reviewed the specials for the week. They have plenty of TVs along the bar and walls. Excited Menominee falls has a new sports bar in town pre season football is just around the corner. Go Pack Go!
