The sushi is quite expensive, but is fresh. However, for the price range, I would save it to eat at another sushi place. $ 3.5 for one — yes you read it correctly — only one sushi ball of Kampachi or Blue Fin Tuna seamed excessive. For our two persons dinner party, we spent about $ 40, which we only ordered a bowl of udon noodles, one order of California Roll(6 pieces), and 1 specialty roll(as we found the individual rolls overpriced given unknown origins of the fish).

I give this place a full extra star for being super kid friendly since those two terms are not often found in the same sentence. The sushi selection is fairly basic but preparation is excellent. It might not be the best spot to impress a date but I’m always happy to go there and equally happy when I leave.

Great, fresh sushi Friendly staff We had some different cut rolls, and they were all yummy, fresh, and well made… The rice was spot on!

Fresh fish and fast courteous service. A couple of interesting special rolls, one of my favorites is the El Camino roll. There is a parking lot in the back but it’s a bit tight. We almost missed the driveway to get in so keep a keen eye out for it.

Really good service. The only thing I was kind of disappointed about was the small selection of special rolls! That’s the main thing I look forward to at a sushi place. I have to say I don’t think I’ll be back.

Above average sushi. Stanford roll was strong. Staff was a bit slow.

We lived near Naomi for two years but it was never on my radar. For some reason, I thought it’s simply a generic sushi joint and I already had a neighborhood favorite(Sushi Plus) so there’s no reason to try it out. The husband insisted that we should give it a chance so today we ventured in at 6pm. The place was quiet and we were seated at the bar. I ordered the omakase nigiri, the salmon sampler, the kaiseki appetizer box and the stanford roll. Our overall experience was meh. There were a couple of issues that rubbed me the wrong way. Firstly, when I was ordering, I asked if I could have an idea of what’s going to be in the kaiseki box. The server answered«no idea. it’s always a surprise.» Hmm, so you couldn’t give past examples? This isn’t the first night this is served. Secondly, we were seated at the bar, and I watched the chefs made my sushi in front of me. We were served the kaiseki box first and we finished it quickly. After which, I saw our sushi being made, being put aside, while we waited for a server to come around and clear the empty box before we were finally served the sushi. Service was a little slow all around. Our sushi was lukewarm and the nigiri didn’t taste fresh. I didn’t really enjoy the omakase nigiri and the salmon sampler. I don’t know if it’s because it was sitting waiting for us for awhile. The kaiseki box was interesting and there were a couple of small dishes inside that I enjoyed. The stanford roll wasn’t too bad. Because of that I might return and give the other rolls a chance. But I probably won’t be ordering the nigiri.

While staying in Menlo Park this holiday weekend I had a craving for sushi. I’d been to Naomi one or two times a few years back and remembered enjoying my meals so I figured I’d give it a shot to see if it still held up as a great little sushi joint. On Friday I ordered take out with two other family members. We ordered miso soup, Eewa Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Fantasy Roll, 49er Roll and two pieces of Hamachi & two of Maguro. The bill was $ 67 which I felt was very reasonable for good quality fish and several rolls. Something I really liked about Naomi was the size of the rolls. While some others on Unilocal complained the portions are small, I felt as though the portions were correct. No one wants to go to sushi and try just one roll. On top of that, when you order a roll covered in white rice it fills you up. Naomi’s rolls were smaller but in a good way. Less rice, more fish and you were able to enjoy multiple rolls because of this. In fact, I enjoyed my rolls so much I ordered take out again the next night. My favorite both nights was the Eewa Roll and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Maguro sashimi was also fresh and delicious. Bottom line is if you’re looking for good sushi in Menlo Park, this is your spot.

As a savvy Japanese food lover, I have to say this restaurant gave me the worst experience ever. Their food is not fresh, especially the sashimi, some of the fish smells… I gave it two stars instead of one out of mercy

Two bad things about this place(the two things any good restaurant needs): the service and the food. We ordered miso soup to start. This was good and tasty but then again you can’t go wrong with miso soup. We ordered a dragon roll and 49ers roll. These were overly expensive, mushy, tasteless and tiny portion wise. We also ordered grilled white fish and explicitly asked the waiter to avoid onions, garlic, and gluten. The plate was supposed grilled. What we got here was a bread, buttered and seemingly deep or pan fried. When we spoke to the waitress she argued with us about the plate being sautéed and not fried. Regardless we sent the plate back. A second server or manager then came and told that the plate said in the menu it was buttered and fried. We asked for the menu and pointed out he was wrong. He then said we still should have pointed this out to him(WHAT???). We then got the white fish plate again. It was so so so so dry. Impossible to eat.

I went there with my friend, we both tried the udon, good but not the best I have tried. The avocado and salmon sushi is good. The environment is quiet and comfortable.

The best sushi place in Menlo Park — it’s basically the only one that has decent fish.

The portions were TINY for the price, really long wait for rolls(we were seated right next to the sushi bar, and the chefs looked super bored, so I’m not sure why?) and the sashimi was a bit fishy. We won’t be coming back.

Nice and small authentic sushi place. I really like the authentic feeling over the restaurant. Don’t get me wrong, madfish is still one of my favorites! But if your in the mood to try the real and fresh stuff, this is a goo place to go. It’s a bit pricey but definitely worth your money

Argh didn’t learn our lesson the first time we ate here a year or so ago… ordered takeout this time, thinking at least the service won’t be something to complain about. The sashimi was paper thin(like carpaccio) and there were 3 tiny pixie-bite size portions! The spicy tuna smelled funny but the unagi was quite nice(despite sitting on a pixie-portion of nigiri rice). Sigh! Never again… take my word for it, skip this place and head to Woodside.

This should have THREE $ signs! Very expensive. We paid $ 80 for dinner for two adults and two children. If they try to seat you in the back room, RUN! It’s like an echo chamber. Apparently, they seated us there because we had children with us, as there were two other tables with children. Unfortunately, the other kids made it a madhouse. I realize that was our own unfortunate, personal experience, but the bottom line for you Unilocalers is, don’t go there unless your prepared to pay a lot for decent but average sushi.

The worst sushi I’ve ever had, and to top it off the worst service I’ve ever experienced. Also incredibly overpriced. The sushi had no flavor, the avocados were old, the fish tasted weird, even the miso soup was bad. The miso soup. The service was horrendous. When we first walked in they had tables for us to sit but wanted us to wait anyway because the sushi chef was too busy. I told the guy that’s fine, but could we at least sit and order drinks, he said no and told us to sit by the door. People started coming in and he told them the same. So there were around 8 people cramped by the front door because none of us were allowed to sit at a table, even though there were plenty available. Many customers were irritated. During our meal the waiters were all confused and walking around like it was their first day, they were also hesitant to take sushi orders. I felt nauseous after the meal and couldn’t wait to get out. 2 sushi rolls, some fish, miso soup, and an appetizer cost 80 dollars. Never coming back here again.

i came here with my girlfriend several months ago for an early weekday evening dinner. fortunately, around 6pm, there weren’t too many other restaurant patrons so it was fairly quiet and we had had attentive service from the wait staff. to begin, we ordered two appetizers to share: +oshitashi — japanese style boiled spinach and mizuna with a light umami soy broth. this was a nice take on the classic boiled spinach and i loved the broth, savory but not too heavy. +shrimp, crab, and avocado salad — finely chopped shrimp and crab, tossed with slices of avocado, on a bed of mixed green, drizzled with house vinaigrette dressing. i loved the fresh seafood and avocado, such a great combination! the house dressing was also very good and i appreciated that the salad wasn’t soaked in dressing. we weren’t super hungry, so we just shared a few rolls for our main: +eel & cucumber roll — standard eel and cucumber inside, garnished with eel sauce. this was a solid roll and the eel was very good. +stanford roll — tuna, salmon, white fish and white tuna on top, avocado, kanpyo, and cucumber inside, garnished with some green onions, sesame, and masago. the combination was great, and i enjoyed all of the different fish in this roll. the garnishes added an extra kick which was nice. overall, a delicious and healthy dinner with good service. the restaurant isn’t that big so this was a nice choice for dinner for two. i can see myself coming back with my hubby for a date night. note that parking is in the back, but the dedicated lot is not that big so you may have to park on the street on a busy night.

This place was decorated nicely, had somewhat attentive service and was extremely clean. The sushi was fresh but the smallest cut I have ever seen. This makes their low prices pretty avg if you are going with a weight ratio. toro — not stringy, even fat content california roll — meh, nothing memorable. it was fishy so it was edible. salmon — not super fatty or super lean, just right ended the night with a pricing mistake. i wouldn’t have noticed if the advertised item wasn’t posted all over the place. waiter was hesitant to change it saying he thought the price was raised, but eventually updated the bill.

We came with friends last Friday night, they live nearby and go here often. We waited about 15 minutes for a table, no biggie. Our server wasn’t great, and kept seeming confused, as well as not being very pleasant. The non-fish choices for my husband were almost nonexistent. Yes, I know this is a sushi place, but most Japanese places in the area also have teriyaki dishes, katsu, etc. They were out of a few varieties of sashimi and nigiri. Also, we saw gyoza being brought out, but they weren’t on the menu. I asked the server about it, and she told me, «We took them off the menu, but if you want them, you can get them.» WTF? After going to places in SF that only serve sustainable fish, I was disappointed to see Blue Fin on their menu. It’s now considered endangered, so i will not order it, and hesitate to go to restaurants that are still selling it. The saba nigiri was great, the scallop nigiri was good, but the hamachi sashimi and kanpachi sashimi was flavorless. II was SO hoping to be pleasantly surprised, but it was pretty much what I expected. Very Mediocre. Obviously people like it, as it was packed on Friday night. Although, I think my husband was the most Japanese person eating there,(and he’s only ½.)
