«Atherton Antiques«looks much like a grand museum of art. I thoroughly enjoy feasting my eyes on your unique treasures… AND your reviews are great! Even as a child, one of my passions has been to experience the warm atmosphere of antique stores. Now in my later years, as an author, I find great pleasure writing reviews of antique stores mainly because I love being in contact with folks who nourish and cherish our rich heritage, Deany Brady author -«An Appalachian Childhood» Sunnyvale, CA and Ellijay, GA

I love Atherton Antiques and I like the owner and young women who work in there. She has some very nice pieces, high end if you will, lots of beautiful crystal chandeliers, crystal glassware, silver pieces, gilded mirrors, furniture, etc. She does carry consignment items which I enjoy also. And even though everyone says Atherton Antiques is so high end(and there are some very wonderful, expensive works of art), she often puts things that are not moving quickly on sale, and she also has a space outside the back door of the store with VERYAFFORDABLE and lovely items in the $ 20 range and less. There were even some free old books once. So bravo to her; she does try to have something for everybody. Anyway, I visit on a weekly basis because she often has lots of new interesting items. She is the high end after I visit the 3 other secondhand stores on Santa Cruz Avenue like American Cancer Shop, The Shop(Junior League), and the Goodwill, which is a boutique Good Will … which means better stuff). I never tire of looking at all the beautiful items she carries.

I popped into the store just to walk through from the back parking lot to Santa Cruz Ave. on my way to get coffee at Peet’s. Well, I ended up staying a while! There is a LOT of very interesting stuff to see in this rather small store. I saw some very beautiful and unique items. Some of the prices seemed pretty good; others, outlandish! In particular I thought that the framed prints were crazily overpriced! The girl working in the store seemed very friendly. I plan to come back when I have more time to really go through the place. For now I am giving four stars(taking off a star on account of some of the prices.) I will update in the future, I hope!

I had a very positive experience with Atherton Antiques. I am a real estate agent and Crystal helped me with a trust sale. We needed to clean out all of the belongings in the home quickly so we could get the home on the market. Crystal understood the urgency and hustled to get the furniture and antiques sold and removed from the property. I was amazed and impressed by her speed and expertise. I will definitely use her in the future and recommend her services to my fellow Realtors.

I have been to a few of their estate sales and found them most interesting. I found a few things at each sale that I continue to enjoy in my home. I’ll have to check out the store sometime when I’m downtown and not in a rush.

I always stop by here when I’m in downtown Menlo Park. They are really different than cluttered collectives. There is always something new and fun. They have have some really unique and high end items, but also have vintage and newer stuff at super good prices… especially if you’ve shopped around the neighborhood!

i brought some stuff in here that i inherited and the old lady who runs the place told me they weren’t very special, but that she would take them off my hands for a small sum. it was a nice chunk of change, but i was skeptical, so i didn’t take her up. I was also generally unimpressed with her smug attitude, and got the sense she had written me off as some bumb. So i took my stuff to Sotheby’s and had a real appraisal and found out the true value was more than 10x what the old lady told me. Moral of the story: beware of Atherton Antiques! BTW, I ended up keeping the stuff.

We were walking down Santa Cruz Avenue and decided to drop in. This store is ultra-high end furniture and very, very expensive. Tables were going for $ 4,000 dollars and they had dressers, chairs, paintings, couches, all for more that I would ever be willing to spend. And the lady behind the desk wasn’t that eager to help us as she just stayed on the phone speaking, I think, French while we walked around. Oh well, not for us. Maybe for you but personally I have been in much, much better consignment stores in my life. This wasn’t one of them.
