I always forget about Grove Grill until someone suggests visiting, which is a shame because the food is good and the service is top notch. While the menu isn’t the most adventurous, it’s always delicious. They even last minute made a vegetarian option for me while I was attending a rehearsal dinner in the restaurant. Also, the wine list is great. Grab a glass of wine, try the risotto, and enjoy the incredible service!

I went to the Grove Grill for a rehearsal dinner for a close friend. The service was awesome, and the wait staff was likely trained by ninjas because our glasses remained full without us even noticing their coming and going. The food arrived in adequate time for the 25 – 30 guests that were in their reserved area. The salmon was well cooked and seasoned. Meat lovers: While I don’t eat meat, the pork chop was raved about! It may be the best porkchop in Memphis according to my carnivorous friends. Vegetarians: The vegetarian option was also pleasing.

We slept in today, and we decided to go to brunch around noon. Our favorite spots would be slammed. As we were driving down Poplar, we decided to see if Grove Grill was busy. When we pulled up, it seemed closed because the parking lot was empty. We went inside, and the dining room was dead. It used to be a decent restaurant. Wow… standards have fallen! The raw oysters were good, and the bread and butter was also good. The«cooked food» was just bad! The fried chicken tenderloins were gross. Does the chef taste the food? They mix basil into the breading for the chicken, which leaves a very strong after taste in your mouth that overpowers the chicken. It is also served with home made honey mustard. The taste of the honey mustard did not match the overpowering flavor of the basil. My fabulous wife ordered chicken and waffles. You have read my review of the chicken so we can move forward with the waffle, which by itself would have been good, but it was not served plain. They served the waffle with a thick maple-nut butter and a peach spread. The peach was delicious, but it was disgusting with the maple butter. Grove Grill is in a fabulous location, and the interior is warm and inviting, but every restaurant lives and dies based on its food. Today we were reminded why we have not gone back in such a longtime. We hope that the restaurant turns things around.

Awesome service, great location. I had shrimp and grits along with fried green tomatoes, being these two last ones totally new to me, it’s hard to make a comparison, but I found them pretty good once I added more salt.

OK Grove Grill– Strike three you’re out! Never again, will I dine at Grove Grill. The good old days are over for GG and I will never give them another try. I have given this place a chance in the past but never again. This lunch was the worst lunch I have had for 70 bucks… yes 70 bucks for lunch. With no alcohol either. Which a glass of wine might have helped this horrible lunch experience. My mother and I both ordered the JUMBO shrimp cocktail at 13 bucks. These shrimp were NOTJUMBO by any stretch of the imagination. They all varied in size not to mention they were like rubber shrimp cooked in a crab boil. I was completely disappointed not to mention embarrassed that I was treating my mother to lunch there. My mother and I both ordered a cobb salad… and get this… NOMEAT came on the cobb salad with the exception of two slices of cold bacon. The texture was so gross and since the bacon was cold it had a layer of fat that had congealed on it. Come on GG does your chef really not know any better? When the salads came I asked the waitress where is the meat and she said it does not come with any other meat except the bacon. She said that is why she was trying to suggest for us to add the fried chicken to the salad. Which would have been extra. Please? Really? I will never go there again. Which is sad because the bar area is a great area to have dinner or lunch. But not at that price for that horrible food. BTW– I don’t write many reviews but I felt so ripped off by this place that I had to mention it so others won’t waste their hard earned money.

I don’t think I will choose to return here. The hostess and waitress were both rude and helpful. There was a lot of confusion over our reservation at the bar for happy hour. They sat our group in the dining area and said they didn’t have room in the bar, when we could see plenty of tables. Our waitress also rolled her eyes after we apologized for the confusion. The only reason I am giving this three stars is because in the end they ended up allowing us to have the happy hour special.

This place is simply top notch. Our waiter was very friendly, welcoming, and knowledgable. My wife had the crab cakes and I had the shrimp and grits. I think that we have found a new favorite place to eat in Memphis. We will definitely be back!

It was my first time at the Groove Grill. I ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer and the shrimp and grits as an entrée. These are the savory brown gravy type of grits, not the creamy cheesy type. It was good but not it of this world delicious.

What a nice restaurant in a great area! We decided to pop in for a drink before heading over to Kirklands. I’m guessing they had just opened up because everyone was at the bar. No one was dining but I feel like the atmosphere would be incredible in the evening. You might have to dress a little classier than just the normal wear, maybe nice and causal but defiantly not a tank and flip flops.

Been some time since we had been but ducked in for an early dinner and were rewarded. Very pleasant interaction with the whole staff. Server was knowledgeable, friendly and experienced. Pimento cheese app was delicious but way to big and filling. Chicken & sausage gumbo is rich, hearty and tasty. Caesar salad had changed since last here but well done. Shrimp and grits always well done and did not disappoint. Vegetable plate medley will definitely do that again.

Three of us tried very different dishes, all turned out perfectly. If you can do this on a slow Monday night, you deserve solid rating. Thanks.

I have already written a review about this restaurant, but now that my husband and I are living out east, we are PUMPED that we are around the corner from the Grove Grill. We never sit in the dining section, and the reason being is we always want to sit at bar with Leighanna. She is beyond amazing. You leave there feeling like she is family. Next time you’re in the area, go see her. I promise you’ll leave talking about how sweet she is.

The shrimp and grits are excellent. The service was very good. It is in an odd location and the interior is a little dated. The have private rooms for group events.

Haven’t been here in years– not sure why. Because it was a nice experience. We ordered the sweet potato humus with pitas that’s was excellent, and the pimento cheese as appetizers. Pimento cheese not at all like you would expect but good. The cheese grits, burger, squash soup, caesar salad ordered at our table all good. A nice basket of breads brought to the table The service was very good. Will be back.!!

The SCFT staff had our our end of the year lunch meeting today at the Grove. Our server Darne was on point and was very knowledgeable of the menu. I had the spinach and dried tomato salad with Salmon and it was absolutely delicious. The other staff had the vegetable plate and they indicated that the food was great! Additionally, we tried the pumpkin hummus as a appetizer and I also tried the tomato soup. Again, the chef knocked it out of the park.(I know I went in the wrong order, but I am rushing as usual). Needless to say we will have more staff luncheons at the Grove since it is near the office.

This is such a ladies-who-lunch type place, but I have never really had a bad experience here. I definitely forget about the middle of Laurelwood as having a quality restaurant, and this has been around for ages, so something must work! Service is always pretty decent, it’s almost never too loud to hold a good conversation with someone, and the brunch offers a very nice selection of favorites(mmmm crabcake benedict!). Lurve the flatbread they bring out.

Outstanding food and service for the five of us. The filet was notably good. The portion size was just right. Not too much. The chocolate desert was outstanding.

I met a friend here for dinner and decided to sit on the bar side since we weren’t that hungry. It was very lively and kinda packed for a Monday night! The bar tables are perfect for a quick dinner or an evening of cocktails and conversation and the menu is the same as the restaurant side. I had one of the evening’s specials — arugula salad with goat cheese and grilled peaches, and added grilled chicken — it was delicious. I haven’t had a salad that tasty in a long time. I recommend the fig bruschetta as well — talk about flavor! Looking forward to another night at this place, and to trying a full dinner! 4 stars for food taste, presentation, variety and service.

I had not been to the Grove Grill in a couple of years when I joined a friend there for lunch today. We had the sweet potato hummus and it was EXCELLENT! The pickled carrots were a good addition and there was a nice touch of heat. I had a lunch special of lobster quesadilla. It was a little bland but it came with a nice salad and guacamole. My companion had a vegetable plate — a lot of good choices. We split the grilled asparagus. I think it’s some of the best in town. Just plain grilled asparagus — can’t beat it! The service was good and friendly. I won’t wait 2 years to go back!

I’ve been visiting the Grove Grill since the 1990s, when I used to work at the boutique next door(now a J. Jill). The restaurant has changed owners sometime in the past several years. The lavasch crackers served before the meal have changed, and are not quite as savory. The caesar salad with fried oysters has found its own place on the menu as the Fried Oyster Caesar, and includes delicious, crisp little croutons made of grits, and larger shavings of mild cheese. Our server was very polite, made good wine pairing suggestions, and actually had great timing with our service ~considering he was high as a kite. Wake-and-bake seems to be the name of the game with more than one of the staff– I noticed another server who had the telltale puffy lower eyelid and looked very sleepy for 11:30 a.m. I’m not complaining in the least, and I don’t think any of the middle-aged women in the restaurant could have noticed. I just happen to have an art school education, and that is an «extracurricular» with which I grew familiar. Great prices for the ladies-who-lunch atmosphere(and«ladies who lunch» are probably not the ones referencing Unilocal), clean restaurant, polite staff, and the food arrived exactly as ordered. The location is in Laurelwood shopping center, so make a walk to local clothing boutiques or peruse Booksellers at Laurelwood’s sale tables in front of the store before or after your meal. The private dining rooms on the side of the restaurant behind the bar are great for a shower or group luncheon!

I always forget about this place. I have been here for brunch a number of times and found it to be a pretty good place. Definitely a fan of the drinks(mimosas and Scarlett O’haras I think?)! One complaint is that the chicken always tastes fishy. Maybe they cook it on the same surface? I don’t know how it happens, but I definitely advise to steer clear. The atmosphere in the restaurant is a little stuffy and pretentious. But I am actually a huge fan of the bar area. The bartender is always great and has some interesting recommendations. If you come here, brunch or bar — you can’t go wrong.

I had a business type dinner here during one of the«close the city down because it’s cold in Memphis» nights, the reviews on here weren’t too impressive, but my Memphian friends told me that it was good. So I said why not try?!(since work was paying for my meal anyhow) The restaurant was not busy at all, 30 degree weather seems to keep most people at home except for the elderly who decided to brave the weather that night as well. It was easy to make a reservation on OpenTable the night before. We were quickly seated and greeted by our server, and took our drink orders. The Ghost River I requested had been tapped dry, so the bartender personally came by to apologize and I selected a bottled craft beer that they were serving. My friend ordered a Fruit Loop martini, it was quite strong, a very generous pour! For appetizers we had a small portion of calamari that was about par, sweet potato hummus that was unique and delicious, and some delightful fried mushrooms. For my entrée, the braised short rib caught my eye immediately and satisfied my belly, I could care less for the risotto or whatever it was that was on the plate. Finished off the meal with a crème brûlée which I took home to enjoy. Overall, enjoyed my meal and had a good experience. Would likely venture back in the future, but I still have to make my way towards The Elegant Farmer which I presume to be quite similar, but more ‘modern’ appearing.
