Salud is a great interactive date night. You get to work together to create an awesome meal using Whole Foods ingredients with a trained chef. They also offer classes for kids on Saturday morning. My favorite classes have been sushi making and a Mexican demonstration with Jonathan from Las Tortugas Deli Mexicana. Lastly, they have a volunteer program that allows you to earn free points towards free classes. It’s definitely worth checking out!

I hosted my annual company retreat at Salud. I always try to do something with my team that is interactive and team building and this was the way to go. I was given several meal options to choose from and decided on the«Caribbean» menu which consisted of: Black Bean Soup, Tostones, Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Rice & Beans and Tres Leches Cupcakes. They offer two different methods, either«Hands On“or «Demonstration»…I elected the Hands On approach… so we could work together as a team to prepare the meal! We split up into two teams and had a cook-off like the TV show«Chopped«, which was suggested by Bre, the Coordinator. Excellent idea because it got the teams pumped up and everyone’s healthy competitive spirit going! Bre also put together awesome prizes for the winning team which consisted of food items that the winners could take home and prepare the items from the class. The event was very well organized by Bre. She communicated with me up to the day of the event and was very flexible, even preparing a vegetarian«meat»(tofu) option for me. We were instructed at each station on how to prepare each item and they did the clean up! My kind of dinner party :) The only thing I would have like to have seen done differently(reason for not a 5 star review) was for us to actually serve ourselves. I personally like to make my own plate — I am weird like that and do not even like for people to serve me food — like«here try a bite of this» — I feel like I am a child when someone makes my plate. Also it does not allow for everyone to get the portions they like. To make matters worse the servings were small in nature and there were a TON of left-overs and rather than us(who paid for the food) being able to get seconds or take a plate to-go…the Whole Foods staff and cooking class volunteers packaged up the food and took it to go. I literally left the class and went to their cooked food section and grabbed food to-go because I was still hungry. Outside of that it was a terrific event that we all enjoyed! They offer a ton of different classes too, many of which I want to go back for. You can see their schedule online. They even have local owners from businesses come do demonstrations. For example they had the owner of Cupcake Diva’s do a class. I love that they support their community in this manner!
