Remember the old 70’s sitcom Alice? She used to say Mel, «Kiss my Grits.» Well you feel like you are on the set of that sitcom when you sit down to eat at Kiss My Grits. It’s a café with a counter just like on Alice and they serve home cookin’ in a friendly, casual environment. Keep in mind it’s on Brooks Road, not the prettiest area of the city. That’s sometimes where you discover the best little finds. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s located inside of a hotel and they are open Monday-Saturday. I have only had lunch here. It’s plate lunches with daily meat and veggie specials. When it’s gone it’s gone, they don’t cook anymore special they just erase it from the board and move on. Fridays are catfish days, some of the best around. It’s light and crispy and I had mine with pinto beans and macaroni and cheese(let’s just say that was my meal for the day!) The pinto beans were the freshest I have ever had and the mac and cheese was the real thing– homemade not the Kraft kind. The lunch crowd is mostly people who work in the area and you can tell they come here often as the staff seem to know what they want right when they sit down. I suggest this is the place to stop after a visit to Graceland. Skip the restaurants right on Elvis Presley and drive 5 more minutes for some good down home Southern cookin’. I
