I wish I had an option of giving no stars at all! Closest if you are hungry and craving for Indian food while traveling on i55 highway. But but but you’d rather want to starve!!! They serve lunch buffet which isn’t good at all! Fair spread! The black dal was warm and it had humongous pieces of onions in it! The cabbage peas vegetable was horrible. Huge randomly cut cabbage pieces! No spice at all The lamb meat balls were a shame!!! Had to ask twice for naans to be served! I did see some sort of partiality or racism if I could use that word, they were constantly serving complimentary masala tea to tables with white people and Indian tables weren’t even asked including us!!! If I am assuming right tea, lassi does come along with the buffet that is. The gulab jamuns– we could make a big joke outta it!!! Cold, tasteless, syrup was tooooooo thin! Wouldn’t recommend at all!!!

I have been to India Palace many times over the years. The main thing that keeps me coming back over and over again is the service. Each time I go, I have wonderful and attentive service along with delicious food. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a delicious Indian Dinner. They do not serve wine, but allow you to bring in your own. Highly recommended!

I recently visited India Palace with a friend and am absolutely smitten with this place. It is my new favorite understated place in town! Food: The food we ordered all tasted great. I don’t know a lot about Indian food, so how this compares to really awesome quality Indian food, I’m not sure. I do know we were generally satisfied with the freshness of everything, as well as the flavors. I generally order random things when I eat Indian food so I can try new things. The dish I ordered on my visit was the Tandori Fish. The fish itself was very good and was just as good as left overs! My only issue with the dish is that it had a TON of onions, so just be aware! They also brought us out free appetizers. Not sure what it was, but it was delicious. Setting: I love that this place is so spacious. It seems like a place you can go to for a casual night or a fancy night. Everything also seemed very clean. Service: The service was outstanding. The staff was so helpful and genuinely seemed like they wanted us to have a great visit. I think the friendliness and prompt service is what made this visit stand out evern more for me. When we arrived I was hoping for a glass of wine, however I was told that they don’t serve wine. The waiter was super friendly though and informed me that I can bring my own wine… AND that Joe’s was practically across the street. The waiter even offered to hold my order until I returned with wine! I love places in Memphis where you can bring your own wine! Prices are moderate here, but considering the service, space and that you can bring your own wine — I definately think it is a good value!

Lunch buffet is a good value at 9.95 plus tax and tip. Very limited selection for buffet. Great for hungry college kids. While I live Indian food I always find this place wanting, for some reason.

Pretty good buffet. Fairly large selection. The sag paneer is very good. Worth stopping in if your in the area and like Indian food. I have never ordered off the menu but I would think it would be good.

This is a fairly authentic Indian restaurant with some very nice people working here. As soon as we sat down, we immediately received ice water and a little basket of yummy Papadum with 2 different dips. The green one was pretty spicy, and the other one tasted more jammy with the texture of molasses. They don’t have wine but they do have an assortment of Indian beer that was interesting to try. I ordered the vegetable Biryani which was basically a giant plate of flavorful rice with veggies and tofu mixed in. It wasn’t too bad but I was not too impressed with the flavors. Though I must say that the little serving of Raita that came with it was delicious. I just poured it all over my plate and enjoyed the rice a lot more after that. We also ordered some garlic naan bread which was delicious, and even more so after dipping in the Raita. Another really nice thing about this place is that once we were done with our meals, they brought us each a small serving of pistachio and mango flavored home-made ice cream!
The only thing that was irritating at this place was that even though my friend ordered hot/spicy platters, the waiter looked very hesitant and started asking him whether he really wanted to do that because hot is apparently extremely spicy(not sure what else he thought we would expect upon ordering a hot dish at an Indian restaurant). My friend was very excited about how spicy it was going to be, but was incredibly disappointed when he received his dish and found out it was mild. After reading some more reviews on here, it seems they do this with a lot of people. If someone orders something hot, beyond informing them that it is pretty hot, I think it is very rude to mess with their order. I probably wouldn’t mind coming here again to try other things!

I love India Palace. They have the BEST Chicken Tikka Masala, Papadum and Riata. Mostly, I love it because they are always so glad I came. They really make me feel like they are glad to see me and that says a lot these days. I wish they had a big patio so that I could hang out and watch the neighborhood more but that’s a silly complaint.

Love this place. Even if you don’t think you’ll like Indian food you should try their Murg Makhani(tomato butter chicken). It’s out of sight. Great owners, great service, nice buffet at lunch. Ask for the pistachio ice cream for dessert! Be adventurous when you’re here; outstanding selections on their menu.

Whenever my boyfriend and I visit Memphis, we make sure to go to India Palace for a meal. Not only does it have great vegetarian options, but the food is tasty and the service is wonderful. It’s a large restaurant with its own parking lot. There’s ample seating and it is good for large groups. There’s a buffet, but we order off the menu. I’ve had the tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, and dhal. The naan, papadum, and samosas are great here, too. My favorite thing on the menu is Peshwari naan(it’s the best I’ve had). The price is also right at India Palace. If you are in Memphis, consider traveling to Midtown and enjoying a pleasant meal at India Palace.

Very friendly people. It was good. Flavorful. The chili naan was actually really good. My wife ordered it but I stole at least half of it. Didn’t like the ice cream even though it was mango and I usually like mango.

Ok so IDK why all my Indian friends hate on this place. Every time I’ve gone I’ve gotten freebies and awesome food. I’ve come with a large group, a few gals, and my hubby now. This last time it’d been years. The waiter kept staring at me and I thought it was because I ordered crazy-spicy food but at the end of the meal he asked if I’d been before so I get why he kept giving me a double take haha. Speaking of crazy spicy food, I asked them to make my Lamb Meatballs as spicy as they could and then I ordered Chili Naan. The waiter clearly thought I was boasting though because what he brought out was pretty mild(for me). He asked me my opinion and I told him just that and he said since I could handle that he could make it spicier and it wouldn’t take more than a few minutes. What he brought back definitely was spicy! It didn’t quite make me cry but it certainly set off my sinuses. It also burned my lips and took awhile to get the burn to go away. It was awesome! Also the lamb meatballs were exactly as I remembered them. I don’t know why I originally chose them but I’ve had them before and always craved them. I don’t think I’ve found them at other places but I will have to look next place I go and see. They were fantastic. Loved: — Chicken Tikka Masala — Chili Naan — Lamb Meatballs — Mango Ice Cream — Samosas

Been there for the buffet– on weekend. It’s fine. Nothing exciting as compared to other Indian buffets elsewhere.

My classmate recommended this place. I decided to try the buffet to get a feel of it. First off the service is impeccable. I ordered the Indian tea & was offered a to-go cup without asking. A round of applause for that alone. I could tell there were many regulars as the staff greeted one guy with a tea before he could sit down. Nice. Now the food, to me, seems as if someone told them to cut back on the Indian in the Indian food. I say that because relative to Indian cuisine I’ve had this was very bland in comparison. I expected flavors of cardamom ginger & spice but it’s was very«basic Indian for timid Americans» they don’t even label the tea«masala» tea it called Indian tea on the menu… Why? Hold back much? Not even Chai The naan was delicious, not chewy at all but it wasn’t garlic either as the menu stated it would be. When I paid the owner asked where I usually went for Indian and what did I think… really my southern manners wouldn’t dare share as I had already decided to stay with my fav place at that point but since he asked I had no choice but to be honest and he appreciated it. I resolved to skip the buffet & order off the menu instead & instruct the staff to make it like your mom does. I do advise everyone to embrace Indian flavors and by that I don’t mean just spicy I mean julienned pieces of fresh ginger, a random cardamom pod(life changing) or stay at home and make it for your boring taste bud having self. Giving this place 5 stars for service alone.

This place is so much better than I remember it being! Papadum Samosas Chicken coconut korma Garlic and Peshwari naan Everything was delicious! The lamb vindaloo still didn’t hold up to my beloved Golden India but I think that’s just my preference. Everything else, even the chutneys, were on point! I do have to say that the peshwari naan here is amazing and I could make an entire meal of it :-) Upon further review I have changed my 4 to a 5 because of the service. They gave us free samosas and mango pudding as well as boxed our food at the table AND never ever let our water get more than halfway empty. India Palace is winning!(Cheezy Charlie Sheen plug, 3 years later)

Love love this place. Either for the buffet or for dinner. A couple vegan options. The green rice is delicious. If you’re not vegan get the mango drink. And the tea. You can choose your level of spiciness. Great service every time I’ve been there.

Adjectives: flavorful, filling, buffet Dish: chicken makhni(butter chicken), bhindi masala(spiced okra) India Palace is one of the better of the Indian restaurant in Memphis, though I still have problems with they food. The butter chicken and lamb curry dishes were oily and didn’t have the depth of flavor that most indian curries do. They have a spacious, clean, and centrally located restaurant. I recommend their lunch buffet for value– you get your money worth of tasty dishes. The dishes are flavorful, and not too spicy if heat is not your preference. Their bhindi masala(spiced okra) dish is a particular standout.

I have been here several times and keep coming back. I have been to Indian restaurants all over the country and this is definitely one of the better ones. I have only been here for the lunch buffet so I can not comment on dinner but for lunch definitely two thumbs up. Every thing is ways fresh and just about right with the spices and curry. If they would just slightly improve their salad I would give it 5 stars. Convenient location too.

Ok, let’s just start out by saying that just like most«ethnic» cuisines in our fair city, this place caters to a slightly more«sensitive» palate… not being derogatory but let’s face it… Middle Eastern, Chinese, Mexican, Thai and Indian restaurants in town just seem to make their foods with less flavor than I’m used to… and it seems that folks from cities with significant food scenes also agree. India Palace is pretty good… not the best I’ve had but I wasn’t expecting that and I’ve had most food from most Indian restaurants in town. I will say that it is much better if you order off the menu and not just the buffet. Also, don’t be afraid to ask them to make it spicy… how spicy? they’ve asked and I’ve replied just like you like it and you won’t be disappointed(I’ll eat molten lava so long as it’s not just heat without flavor). The Buffet has a large selection. That being said, we all know it’s hard to maintain quality dishes in this serving set up but if you go when they’re busy then the food doesn’t stay out too long. Plus if you go for the lunch buffet on the weekends they usually have some Bollywood movies playing on the TVs. The service has always been great and we usually get«Free extras» when we place a large order($ 75+) which we usually do. The portions can definitely be larger for the price but I think it is still in line with most restaurants in Memphis. The Nan is very good and they have several types. There menu is fairly comprehensive as they also serve Pakistani food. It is Vegetarian sufficient as well which is nice for folks that care. I’ve been here many times and I’ll continue to be a customer.

Hopefully, this review will not be deleted… I have been here a few times over the years, and I appreciate the very friendly and humble staff. The buffet is certainly worth the price considering the selections, and the outdated yet simple décor. I would suggest a revamp on said décor… it’s a bit like being in a dive bar and diner simultaneously.
