It had been a while since we had eaten at Houston’s so we decided to meet friends there. It can get a little frustrating because you usually have to wait for a table. The sweet hostess told us we would be 30 minutes or so. By the time i got back from the bar, our table was ready in 20 minutes. From the moment we sat down our service was perfect. The prime rib and the special blackened steak special of the night was great. We had the food fortune to meet Ryan Gianola the manager. In case you didn’t know, Houston’s now takes reservations which I would suggest you do. Ryan, thank you for a very nice evening at Houston’s. You sure know how to treat your guest.

It’s so nice to eat in an establishment that has standards. No cellphone use(talking) in the dining area. You are more than welcome to step out from the table to a more suitable area to talk and take a call. It’s such a pleasant atmosphere to sit, eat and actually talk to the person at your table. The ambiance is so that you can actually hear the person you are talking to. All the wait staff that I have seen are neat. All hair is short, neat, pulled up, pulled back, tied and not hanging down in someone’s plate of food. No one has visible piercings, tattoos, creative designed hair color or hairdos. Just clean cut old fashioned uniformed business attire. The staff is not walking around with Bluetooth, earbuds or talking/texting on their phones while servicing customers they are indeed extremely attentive to each and every customer whether it is seating, taking an order, answering questions, delivering food, refilling drinks or cleaning tables, they all move and work together to make your dining experience top of the line. Thanks to all of the staff and management at Houstons. I eat there often and always enjoy the experience.

I read quite a few reviews saying that finding a table here is difficult, but the hubs and I decided to swing through around 3:30 because I hadn’t had lunch and was starving! It was between Houston’s and Chic Fil A, but I was wearing red lipstick so I felt a steakhouse was a little more appropriate. I have a weakness for French Dip Sandwiches. I’ve had some very bad ones, tough meat and soggy bread and flavourless au jus, but I’ve also had some mind-blowing ones. Houston’s made it onto the mind-blowing list. The steak was tender and juicy, the bread had a crispy crust, and the au jus was salted to perfection. This is the best French Dip I’ve had in Memphis. Also, they serve the Coke, Diet Coke, and Sprite in glass bottles with a tumbler full of ice. Classy and throw-backy, I like! Our waiter was kind and respectful of how little time we had to eat, bringing us our check with our food so when we were done we could head out(we had an appointment to make). My husband was impressed with his burger, fresh and juicy and flavourful. We loved this restaurant!

The staff and service here was excellent. They were polite, courteous, friendly, and prompt in spite of the busyness. I want to personally thank Antonio as well as the staff at the bar area. They took care of me and my food was hit and delicious! I now can enjoy Houston’s on Memphis as well as my home state California.

This being my first visit I was very impressed with the atmosphere and cleanliness of the restaurant. I have had friends recommend Houston’s and now I know why. I will also be recommending Houston’s to everyone I meet. I had the ribs and they were to die for. Our waitress Summer was knowledgeable of the menu and very attentive. She made our meal a very pleasant experience. I will be returning in the near future to try other menu items.

If one rated restaurants based solely on aesthetics and presentation, Houston’s would receive a full five stars. Six, if possible. The atmosphere of the place is possibly among the classiest you could get in Memphis. The food looks marvelous, too. The unfortunate issue, which comes to be the main issue at times, is the pricing. While the food definitely is good, it’s nothing special enough to warrant these high prices. The value you get out of your meal compared to what you actually get(in quality and portion) is ridiculously disproportionate. For what I paid for my Scottish Salmon meal, I could have prepared twice over. A fellow I was at dinner with had a veggie burger, and considering his portion(and for $ 15), he seemed to get the most value. The only way I can see you spending your time at Houston’s is when you want to pay for the experience. If you want to impress a co-worker, significant other, or family member, Houston’s is your place. Not the best choice when you want a solid dinner yet with all the amenities of a classy restaurant.

There is always a wait to get a seat? Hard to argue with that Best spinach dip in the country and service has always been great! Just have to laugh how everyone look like they are out of SNL Sprocket skit

Have always loved this place since I moved to Memphis. Specifically go there for the smoked salmon appetizer. But now we are hooked on the the Warm Five Nut Brownie and always get it as a dessert. A great place to eat and much better now that they have more parking since the Whole Foods remodel.

This place has change a lot since we were here three years ago. Menu items are definitely interestingly good. Had their chicken sandwich. Their slaw is absolutely fantastic on that sandwich. Wife likes their roast beef. Service was fantastic. They are a bit pricy, and serving size is normal.

Came in with a few friends after seeing a movie at the Paradiso and we sat at the bar for a drink to end our night. It was technically 20min before closing but the hostess welcome us and encouraged us to sit at the bar if we were interested. We sat and were addressed by a bartender immediately. Our orders were filled promptly and with a smile. My gin gimlet was a little too sweet for my liking but the customer service was great. About 20min after closing, we still weren’t being rushed out of the place and the bartender actually asked us if we’d like one more round at this time. Overall, the customer service was great and the drinks were decent, too. I always appreciate not being rushed when it’s close to an established closing time so 5 stars for the friendly service!

Food is good, just like any other franchise restaurant. The no high chair rule is ridiculous, though. My one year old was forced to eat off the seat of the booth with me holding onto her. Had they told me the rule up front when I asked for 2 adults and a high chair, it would have been different. We would have left. But after waiting 30 minutes we were told they did not have a seat for her. If we had wanted a nice lunch with no children, we would have gone somewhere like Folks Folly. I’ve never felt more unwelcome somewhere in my life.

I went to Houston’s for the first time a few days ago. It had a very nice atmosphere and a classy feel to it. I was impressed by how knowledgeable our waiter was about the menu and how quick our food arrived. I had the fried shrimp, and even though they were good, they weren’t great. I simply expected a higher caliber of food at this restaurant. My brother had the smoked salmon however and I tasted it and it was delicious. I will definitely return to try different entrees. Overall it was a very pleasant dining experience and I’m excited to return.

Used to go here a lot in the past but the last few times were so bad I haven’t been back in a long while. This place used to be all about great service and food. The last few times both sucked. The tenders, Hawaiian ribeye, etc can be good but have not been on my last few trips.

This is one of my grown to love spots! I’ve been here on a few of my outing with friends but it never hit me that I should do a review until now! The wait was pretty long but the food is great! I guess the only down fall is the unlimited refill you can only get two and after that you pay for the 3rd drink! Water is always good!

I don’t have anything negative to say about this place. Let me start off by saying I shoved a lot of tasty things in my mouth and I should be ashamed but I’m not. Best smoked salmon I have ever had hands down. The flavor was fabulous! I also had the pleasure of sampling the following: spinach artichoke dip, some super tasty salsa, kale salad with peanut vinaigrette, and the Thai noodle salad(this dish was a party in my mouth). It was all excellent!

This is literally a J Alexander just a slight different menu. The prime rib cost $ 32 here and $ 28 at J Alex. And it taste the same. They even serve water in a chilled glass with no ice, wait staff same outfits, same open kitchen, same bar area, all same as J Alex. If you ate at j alex about 8 years ago you might remember the sugar container a round silver object well guess who has them yep this place. As for the food I only had the bean burger and it’s not bad the fries are better at j Alex and the prime rib is good. Brownie was just ok. I would not order again.

So I’ve been meaning to write something about Houston’s for a while as I should seeing as how I check in here so often. So why is this one of my favorite restaurants in Memphis? Simply put in one word: Consistent. It is the type of place that almost anything that is ordered tastes good. It doesn’t make anything that will wow you but it never makes you feel like gosh that was disappointing. It is a great atmosphere and a great place to take guests as well as celebrate with family. So what do I order at Houston’s? Well I love the Double Cut Pork Chop and Hawaiian Ribeye. The Rotisserie Chicken and Prime Rib are good as well and I would definitely pair it with the Emerald Kale Salad for a side. Today I saw something new on the menu so we had to try the St. Charles Oysters and they were really good. All in all there are some great things about Houston’s. All of which keep me coming back. The low light ambiance. The friendly staff. The consistently good food. Now all that’s left is to see if I can consistently hold onto my «dukedom» here. I hope you all enjoy Houston’s as I do.

I don’t think I’ve ever received such consistently good food. I started going here over ten years ago and the thai steak noodles are just as delicious today as they ever were. I’ve never ordered a bad thing on the menu. The service is always excellent and the mood/lighting is nice for a date. The only bad thing I have to say is that I would never go here on a weekend night or a holiday — you’d be waiting at the door(no, the bar would be overflowing too) for an hour or so. I go here for a special occasion… on a Tuesday night!

I always leave Houston’s happy. Their steaks are excellent and the atmosphere here is very nice and cozy with dim lighting and comfortable seating. The one downer is that the menu isn’t that extensive and their aren’t a lot of choices however the items that are on the menu are very good. I had the Hawaiian boneless steak with a baked potato. I usually have my steaks prepared medium well as the picture will reflect. I can honestly say that this is one of the best steaks I’ve had. I definitely will come back and recommend for you to come if you haven’t been. Enjoy.

This food is not cheap but the service is decent and it is good quality food! I love their salads and ribs! Also, I like the location, though parking can suck.
