Great Wines & Spirits of Memphis

Though Great Wines has a large selection, their prices are not great and honestly much of their selection is available at other wine stores in Memphis. A wine store of any class and of that size should have more offerings you can’t just buy down the street. Scale should also lead to better prices. The more expensive the wine, the more overpriced they are at Great Wines. Here’s the sad reality, there is not a great wine store in Memphis. But, certainly Kirby Wines and Buster’s are better options. If you’re serious about wine, do yourself a favor and just order it on line. You can buy wine much cheaper from K & L or Kermit Lynch on the West Coast or MacArthur’s (DC) or Astor (NYC). Yes, it’s actually cheaper to purchase wine from these places and ship than to buy in Memphis, especially at Great Wines. Just don’t order on line in the summer, load up in the other seasons and you’ll be glad you did. And don’t confuse the people at Great Wines with anyone who actually knows much about wine.

Just walking up to the doors I was excited! (They really need a stage for an outside live band — I’d be there every day if I could!)
The store looks a bit smaller outside but once entering the doors you’re overwhelmed with how many bottles are available for selection.
I never got the name of the gentleman who helped us, but he was knowledgeable and took us right to what we were looking for and knew exactly about whatever my mother was talking about (sulfates?).
Very relaxed employees, I will always go back here for a great wine selection!
I did not see something a friend had purchased (obviously not from that store) but it was an excellent experience!

Hands down-​this should be one of America’s great wine stores. The breadth of the selection is matched only by the depth of knowledge and friendliness of the staff. Definitely one of Memphis’ best-​kept secrets. The thematic wine tastings are the best that I have been to.

Awesome selection and extremely knowledgeable staff. Store hosts weekly wine tastings for a nominal fee which can be used in the purchase after the tasting.

This is definitely the place to go if you’re looking for wine, foreign or domestic. The selection is enormous, as is the store, and they’re happy to do a computer search for you to help you find what you’re looking for.
They had a small, but good selection of German Rieslings, my favorite. They carry a good selection of champagne, and a complete selection of vodka, tequila, rum, and other spirits. Their prices are standard.
