Dan West Garden Center

The prices are a little higher than other garden centers, but the selection and service can’t be beat. Every time I’ve gone in, the staff has been incredibly helpful– whether that be answering questions, helping me find plants for my yard, or assisting with getting my purchases out to the car. Well worth the little bit extra you may pay!

My review is a little different than the other reviews of this place. I’m sure their plants are fabulous, but have you ever been around Christmas and checked out their selection of Christmas ornaments?! OMG!!!
If you have a crazy obsession with Christmas ornaments like I have, Dan West will be your new go-​to spot for ornaments! They have everything: pets, hunting, sports, career, collegiate, Elvis, wine, food, beach themed and even the expensive fancy froo-​froo ornaments. Most of the ornaments are displayed on themed trees and I could spend an hour just looking at all of them. The prices are very reasonable and they’re good quality ornaments.

Dan West is by far and away my favorite garden center in Memphis. It’s tiny, and you don’t expect much walking up to it, but they have an excellent selection of plants, shrubs and flowers. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly as well. Since I don’t have much of a green thumb, this is a huge bonus for me every spring.
I purchased all of our plants here last year and was a bit shell-​shocked at the price tags. Despite the sweltering heat– not to mention my forgetting to water everyday– the hanging ferns and potted asparagus ferns were still flourishing come winter when it was time to put out my Christmas decorations. I decided to save the asparagus ferns and left them potted in our backyard all winter. Would you know that those suckers are back on my porch right now and prettier than they were last year? I know we had a mild winter, but seriously that’s some good plant genes right there.
I made the mistake of purchasing our hanging ferns from Kroger this year cuz they were dirt cheap. They’ve been up there for a month and they are already turning brown. I’ll be making all of my plant purchases from Dan West from now on. The quality of their stock is worth the price any day of the week.

I like to think that I have a bit of a green thumb, but these people know what they’re talking about. When I need some ornamental shrubbery, seed, or anything for my garden, I usually hit up Dan West. It’s right across from Whole Foods (bonus!), and the staff is happy to answer any of my questions. All of their plant life looks very healthy and the prices are reasonable. It’s a good one-​stop shop for my gardening needs.
