Went here for lunch, was the only person in there. Service was not so great. The lunch I had was blah. Then I read that the good reviews were for breakfast. Don’t think I’ll be going back.

As breakfast places go, I have to say that this place is just average. Whether this view is slightly biased by my thoroughly enjoyable experience the previous day at Blue Plate Café, I’ll leave up to you. We arrived early on a Sunday morning and the place was already pretty full, for some reason the upstairs was closed off so we decided to sit at the bar counter rather than wait for a table. The service was friendly and fast, although did seem a little slow in the main restaurant area. I decided to try the southern BBQ omelet, thanks solely to reading the ravings of previous reviewers here on Unilocal.I am, what some refer to as a slow starter in the morning. The idea of food prior to at least my first cup of coffee just doesn’t appeal to me, and the notion of eating BBQ that early in the morning was a hurdle that I had to overcome. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised by it, the omelet was light and fluffy with a generous stuffing of pork and cheese and topped with BBQ sauce. Would I get it again? Maybe. Am I glad I tried it? Yes. Along with my omelet I had a side of «cathead» biscuit, which for a Brit living in the midwest, was an entirely foreign concept. Thankfully none of our feline friends were harmed in the making of my breakfast! A little googling after the event appears to suggest that it got it’s name from being the size of a cat’s head. Needless to say, as the owner of two rather large kitties, my biscuit did not come anywhere close to the size of their heads! It was also more dense and crumbly than I was expecting from a biscuit. My wife ate the breakfast casserole and seemed a little underwhelmed by it. It was an enormous serving, it just wasn’t anything to write home about. The coffee was a little on the weak side for me, but then again it usually is at most places I visit. They did at least keep it well topped up throughout our visit and gave me a cup to go. Would I recommend this place? Honestly, I don’t really have any strong feelings about it. It was very conveniently located to the Peabody Hotel where we were staying but I’d rather walk the extra distance and go back to Blue Plate Café.

While visiting Memphis, we stumbled across this place. Made plans to eat breakfast there the next day. We had no wait and was seated at a very small table in a very tight space. A mere shoulder’s width away was another table. a booth. Three people were seated there and I can tell ya, that was too close for comfort. I was closer to a stranger than my bf. The food was mediocre. I got the BBQ omelet which had no taste. I didn’t taste the hard biscuit. Coffee was good but you can’t really mess up coffee. My bf got the PB and banana French toast. He said there was half the jar of PB and the sweetness overshadowed any real flavor. We’re not picky eaters but this was bad. Ask for a booth near the wall but stay away from the one in the corner unless you want to get real cozy with strangers.

Best. Omelette. Ever. Now that that’s out of the way, let me start over. Cockadoos is a pretty busy breakfast place, and about a 2 second walk from Talbot Heirs. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table, but luckily the waiting bench was nice and comfy with pillows. I love their menu! My girl opted for french toast, with sweet potato hash browns(complete with powdered sugar and marshmellows!), and our waitress, without hesitation, recommended their BBQ Omelette, which I ordered with biscuits. For starters, I don’t know what they put in those biscuits, but they’re amazing! As for the omelette, it featured egg(duh) and pulled pork inside, covered in southern BBQ sauce. It was far and away, the greatest breakfast item to ever grace my mouth. Ever since I left there, I’ve been thinking about how badly I want another one of those omelettes. I kept stop thinking about it. I think I’m in love. The price was very reasonable, and the food was served in a timely fashion. Great place!

Great hole in the wall breakfast place. Little pricey though! They have items in $ 7-$ 9 range, for what I got though I thought was too much.

Met business associates here this week, and it reflects the Memphis vibe with a really good breakfast. It is more of a breakfast café than a coffee shop, but they have couches and other areas to lounge with just a cup of coffee. Coffee and service met expectations, and I highly recomend to anyone that would like a good breakfast or coffee in downtown Memphis.

We went there for breakfast on Friday 5÷11÷12. After reading a few reviews online, this seemed like the perfect breakfast place for a couple of tourists. We decided on the BBQ omelette for my girlfriend and«The Shag» for myself. The BBQ omelette sounded amazing but was just ok. The pulled pork really didn’t have much flavor and all that was left was a regular omelette with a little bbq sauce on top. I had«The Shag» which was pretty good. The Shag is 2 pieces of french toast with peanut butter and banana in between the 2 slices. The whole thing is topped with maple syrup, whipped cream and blueberries. My only complaint was that there was too much peanut butter which some people may like. I simply scrapped off some and it was good. The wait staff was friendly and the place is kind of funky but in a good way. Overall a decent place.

Pretty delicious brekky spot — and worth it if your a coffee drinker as they do refills for any drink, even my treaty caramel iced coffee with an extra shot. :) BBQ-stylee omelette, skip the biscuits and gravy.

It doesn’t look like much on the outside, but once you get inside the atmosphere is very welcoming. Very casual coffee house feeling and a place I could see myself frequenting if I lived downtown. As I went on a Saturday morning, it was quite busy. We had to wait to be seated for maybe 15 minutes, but the waitress brought coffee and drinks almost immediately.(Apparently Mississippi Mud brand coffee is delicious.) I ordered the breakfast casserole(which they only have so much of, I got the last piece for the day) and a side of hash browns. The casserole was DELICIOUS and it came with a biscuit, that wasn’t too great(but there were other options of toast instead of the biscuit. There were a lot of menu options: omelets, pancakes, french toast, eggs your way, etc. My only complaint would be that the service was slow, but like I said Saturday morning probably isn’t the best time to expect fast service. BUT everyone was friendly and really good. OH and really large portions. I was stuffed and didn’t even finish.

Just across the street from the famous Peabody Hotel, this little breakfast place is great. They make pretty good Cappuccino’s and have a nice menu with some unique dishes you’ll be hard pressed to find elsewhere. The bacon is nice thick cut bacon and their omelets are very good with a number of fillings to choose from. They are also very generous with their portion sizes, so bring your appetite. Fitz D. summed it up well with the BBQ omelet review… nothing else like it in the city! The restaurant itself is slightly on the dive-y, casual side. Service was pretty good; we sat at the bar since there was a wait for a table. I didn’t try any, but the biscuits looked outstanding. They do have several tables just outside, so as it gets warmer, I can’t think of a better place to sit outside with a cup of Joe and just relax and watch the city wake up.

As I own a breakfast and coffee place, I don’t have to get breakfast out in Memphis. I choose to go here about once a month. I sit at the counter, they remember me. The staff is great, and I drink the coffee too. The BBQ omelet is like nothing else in the city, they pull the egg out across the griddle to make it cook thin and then fold it back over itself, then add a good size helping off Q on top. Then there is what I put off for the longest time. PB&B French Toast, you Elvis fans know the second B is for Banana. I just thought this was going to be too heavy. WRONG, see they use thick slice Texas toast for the bread here, so it’s so light. A wonderful surprise, Add in the blueberries and hold about half the whip cream. Now dessert, the sweet potato hash browns. This is gonna kill you, but you have to try them. split an order between two of you.

3 stars ??? Only for service. The sweetest waitress greeted us on the patio with bacon strips for my lab, she brought out a container of ice water for him too. She was helpful navigating the one page menu, telling us what was popular. Not just her, but everyone we encountered in the place was attentive and helpful. Now for the food. Pulled pork omelette, good, flavorful, and a combination I’d never had. It was good, but not great. The«cat head biscuits» were hard as rocks, and probably way over shadowed by my amazing Loveless Café(Nashville) biscuit experience. The other dish was a Breakfast Casserole of the Day. Uh, more like«…of yesterday». It’s more quiche style than casserole style, and the crust was dense and dry and stale tasting. I love these kind of things, but I could hardly eat it. The Sweet Potato Hashbrowns had sooo much promise(I’m a sp fan)…until they arrived sitting in a pool of grease. Couldn’t discern any spices or special flavor. I really really wanted to rewind the clock and redo this choice.

I’m so bummed about giving this place only 2 stars because I really had such high hopes. Im a grits girl and was super-duper excited when i saw them on the menu! However, total disappointment came across my face as a tore into them. Blahblah bland and cold! Staff — not friendly or very attentive. The atmosphere and décor alone earned them a star. Cathead biscuits earned them the second star. Obviously, from other reviews I ordered the wrong menu items. Probably worth another try if ever in the downtown area again.

Their service and décor alone would give them 3 stars, but that food was mm mm mmmm! Talk about southern charm, southern brunch, and southern hospitality on that fine Sunday morning. I walked into Cockadoos and immediately thought«this is gonna be good.» Boy was I ever right. Afterall — when am I not? We went family style, because their menu looked too dang good to try more than one item. Our order? — The Shag — Sweet Potato Hash Browns — Omelet(with tomatoes, cheese, and jalepenos) — Biscuits — Cheese grits — Pancakes — Coffee — Apple juice Yes, that was for four people. And yes, we all felt fat afterwards. Fat & happy! All items were super delicious, but The Shag was the star of the show. And rightfully so, with peanut butter and bananas mashed and warm between two pieces of french toast, syrup, sprinkled with powdered sugar and topped with a mound of warm whipped cream and blueberries. Thaaat’s right. You know that sounds amazing! Thank you, Cockadoos. Now kindly open one in Nashville!

A fun greasy spoon located a couple blocks from our stay at Talbot Heirs in Memphis. Everyone was pleasant, even with our somewhat difficult dietary requests and orders(but we always preface our orders with«this may seem random, but…» and a smile). The food is typical Southern style breakfast. Tasty. Not knock me off my bar stool fabulous, but served the purpose and tasted good. I could have done with less grease, but that’s what extra napkins are for! My favorite part about Cockadoos? The brightly painted Elvis running down the entire bar top … Check out the pic I posted for this restaurant.

What a fun place! While healing myself from a pretty interesting Beale street experience the night before, I stopped by Cockadoos for a late breakfast. There was plenty of seating including a quaint area upstairs. The staff was very friendly and quickly brought me coffee(yummy and sorely needed). There was quite a variety on the menu, but I got the Fish and Grits. It arrived at my table very promptly and was a very generous portion. The cheese in the grits give it just the right amount of seasoning and the fish was prepared just right. I personally wasn’t a fan of the cathead biscuits, but we all can’t like everything, right?

Oh man, this place really bummed me out. Me and my ladies were on vacay last weekend and along with a serious hangover, were craving greasy breakfast foods. The menu looked promising: Omelettes, pork products, fried potatoes, grits, etc. The atmosphere was amazing. The colors bright, the enivronment welcoming. We were very optimistic. We ordered 2 coffees, 1 iced tea and 3 waters. We were each given our caffeinated beverages, but no water. No bueno for hungover senoritas. :(We ordered 3 omelettes: each came out with varying ingredients, none of which were items we ordered, but we ate them anyways as we were starved. Mine had zero cheese, which was the bane of my existence. The hashbrowns were somehow overcooked to the point of a charred appearance yet simultaneously so greasy that they tasted of Oleo. Our biscuits and gravy were confusing as the sausage was not cooked thoroughly and the biscuit tasted like cat litter. :( Oh oh, and my omelette wasn’t even cooked all the way! There was runny egg whites all over the place and I sent it back to be heated up as everything was cold. And to boot, none of us received any refills on our beverages. THe most messed up part was that there were plenty of people standing around staring at the clientele but no one would pay us any attention! The bus boy had to bring us silverware. I begrudgingly tipped my server 15% but made sure to give some dolla dolla bills to my busser FORGIVING A DAMN. What a man.

Cockadoos is pretty new to downtown and I love trying out new places in the downtown area. I’ll be going back to this one. The place was bustling when I arrived for lunch, but I waited no time at all for a table, and even less time for a waitress to arrive and take my drink order. I had an iced tea which a bit sweet even to my Southern standards, but still good. You can order breakfast during lunch time and anyplace that allows you to do that is my kind of place. The atmosphere was really fun and happy– bright yellow walls and a cute little sectional bench in the front window filled with colorful pillows– a great spot to chill and people-watch the folks walking down Union Avenue. A great addition to the downtown area, Cockadoos is not only fun, but fast and friendly.

Cockadoos is a cheerful place — the walls are painted bright yellow, the space is open and airy and the staff is incredibly friendly. I stopped in this morning to grab some breakfast. They’ve got a full breakfast menu, but the blueberry scones looked too tasty to resist. My scone was large and dense(and still toasty when I pulled it out of the bag). Cockadoos has a large drink menu of coffee, lattes and specialty drinks. I got the house specialty, the Cockawhat. When I asked what it was, the barista told me that it tasted like s’mores. For the record, it tasted a lot like s’mores. It had espresso, mocha, and a few marshmallows for good measure. If you’re not a morning person, Cockadoos has a full lunch menu, soups and a salad bar. They’ve got wi-fi, too(just ask for the password). Cockadoos is open 6 a.m. — 2 p.m. during the week, and 6 a.m. — 3 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
